  • In the present work, design procedure and computer simulation of an AUV are documented briefly. The design procedure containing the design of propulsion system and CFD simulation of hydrodynamics behavior of the hull leads to achieve an optimum mechanical performance of AUV system. After designing, a comprehensive one dimensional model including motor, propeller, and AUV hull behavior simulates the whole dynamics of AUV system. In this design, to select the optimum AUV hull, several noses and tails are examined by CFD tools and the brushless motor is selected based on the first order model of DC electrical motor. By calculating thrust and velocity in functional point, OpenProp as a tool to select the optimum propeller is applied and the characteristics of appropriate propeller are determined. Finally, a computer program is developed to simulate the interaction between different components of AUV. The simulation leads to determine the initial acceleration, final velocity, and angular velocity of electrical motor and propeller. Results show the final AUV performance point is in the maximum efficiency regions of DC electrical motor and propeller.

  • In This paper, a pole-zero optimized design method for multi-layed planar interdigital stripeline linear group delay bandpass filter with tap input port is presented. As a design example, a four-pole group delay filter with center frequency of 2.14GHz, bandwidth of 160MHz, and group delay variation of ${\pm}0.1nS$ for LTCC technology or multilayerd PCB technology is designed. In the design process, as well the whole structure is not necessary to be simulated, and within three times of optimizing process we have good result as well. This design method could be useful for controlling error correction of manufacturing process as well as design stage.

  • This paper deals with design of Linear Switched Reluctance Motor (LSRM) considering to normal force. First, we derived design factor from pole arc ratio of stator and mover, and calculated time constant using inductance and resistance. Second, we decided design parameter from design factor using time constant, and analyze characteristics for LSRM using finite element analysis. Finally, we analyzed force characteristic according to design factor.

  • The finite element method (FEM) is typically used in the process of motor design. However, the FEM requires computation time, Therefore, decreasing the number of FEM simulations may also decrease the simulation cost. Several optimal design methods overcoming this problem have been recently studied. This paper investigates the optimal design of the magnet pole of a BLDC motor through reducing simulation cost. The optimization minimizes the magnet volume and limits the average and cogging torques to certain values. In this paper, the response surface methodology and Taguchi's table for reducing the number of FEM simulations are used to approximate two constraints. The optimization result shows that the presented strategy is satisfactorily performed.

  • Successive approximation A/D converters have an advantage of small chip area and simple algorithm. We propose an improved non-redundant successive approximation register (SAR) which can be incorporated in successive approximation A/D converters. The proposed SAR validates the preset state as the $1^{st}$ reference voltage to the comparator. Two redundant clock cycles in the typical design could be eliminated in the proposed A/D converter.

  • In this paper, the general electromagnetic design process of a 10-MW-class high-temperature superconducting (HTS) synchronous generator that is intended to be utilized for large scale offshore wind generator is discussed. This paper presents three-dimensional (3D) electromagnetic design proposal and electrical characteristic analysis results of a 10-MW-class HTS synchronous generator for wind power. For more detailed design by reducing the errors of a two-dimensional (2D) design owing to leakage flux in air-gap, we redesign and analyze the 2D conceptual electromagnetic design model of the HTS synchronous generator using 3D finite element analysis (FEA) software. Then electrical characteristics which include the no-load and full-load voltage of generator, harmonic contents of these two load conditions, voltage regulation and losses of generator are analyzed by commercial 3D FEA software.

  • Planar magnetic based design technologies have been widely applied to power design for better cooling and ease of fabrication. The planar transformer and the planar inductor have a low profile characteristics compare to the conventional transformer which would be more cubical in volume. High frequency operation of magnetic components is a main key to achieve high power density of the power module. However, at a high frequency, the skin effect and the proximity effect have to be considered very significantly in magnetic design and also the parasitics in the converter cannot be ignored. This paper deals with the design and the experiment of planar integrated magnetic component. The optimal design for planar magnetics is summarized.

  • This article describes optimization for PGS(Patterned Ground Shield) of rectangular spiral inductor using Taguchi's Design of Experiment. PGS is decrease method of parasite component by silicon substrate among dielectric loss reduction method. Using taguchi's design of experiment, each parameter is fixed upon that PGS high poison(A), slot spacing(B), strip width(C) and overlap turn number(D) of PGS design parameter. Then we verified that percentage contribution and design sensitivity analysis of each parameter and level by signal to noise ratio of larger-the-better type. We consider percentage contribution and design sensitivity of each parameter and level, and then verify that model of optimization for PGS is lower inductance decreasing ratio and higher Q-factor increasing ratio by EM simulation.
