선택적 충전방식 전하펌프를 사용한 LED 램프 조광구동 기술 (Driving Method for Dimming of LED Lamps using Selectively Charged Charge Pump)

  • A new LED lamp driving technology with a charge pump instead of a conventional DC-DC converter is proposed. The proposed driving technology is used to control the LED lamp with digital dimming. The power loss in the zener diodes is reduced because the charging process of the capacitors is selectively controlled according to the digital control signal. From the experimental results, when dimming four LED lamps simultaneously, the average driving circuit efficiency of 89% is obtained, regardless of the dimming level. White light with color temperature over a range of 2800~7200K was produced by dimming control of red, green, blue and amber LED lamps with the proposed driving circuit. The characteristics of the driving circuits can be changed depending on the characteristics of the R, G, B, and A LED lamps. The efficiency of the driving circuits up to a maximum 89% can also be obtained depending on the combination of LED lamps. The driving technology with digital dimming control for LED lamps proposed in this paper would be effective for obtaining high efficiency in LED driving circuits and remote control of LED lamps using digital communications.

Generalized Stability Criterion for Multi-module Distributed DC System

  • The stability issues of a multi-module distributed DC power system without current-sharing loop are analyzed in this study. The physical understanding of the terminal characteristics of each sub-module is focused on. All the modules are divided into two groups based on the different terminal property types, namely, impedance (Z) and admittance (Y) types. The equivalent circuits of each group are established to analyze the stability issues, and the mathematical equations of the equivalent circuits are derived. A generalized criterion for multi-module distributed systems is proposed based on the stability criterion in a cascade system. The proposed criterion is independent of the power flow direction.

  • 이진수 시스템에서는 하드웨어 구현, 연산속도 등에 따라 음수와 양수를 나타내는 여러 가지 수 표현법이 있다. 그 중에서 한 비트로 부호를 정하고 나머지 비트들로 절대값을 표현하는 부호화-절대값 표현법은 간단하고 부호비트를 변환 시키는 것만으로 음수를 구할 수 있다. 그러나 부호화-절대값 표현법에서 실제 계산은 연산과 연산자들의 부호에 따른 절대값 비교를 필요로 한다. 간단한 구조에서 두 부호화-절대값 수의 덧셈, 뺄셈 연산기는 비교기와 선택적인 보수기, 덧셈기로 구성된다. 본 논문에서는 명시적인 비교기 사용 없이 두 수의 차이를 구할 수 있는 회로를 설계하고 이 회로를 이용하여 두 부호화-절대값으로 표현되는 수의 덧셈/뺄셈을 수행하는 가/감산기 설계하였다.

  • This paper presents a study on the assessment of electrical fire hazards by electric circuits with leakage. The hazards are evaluated with the energy supplied by earth-leakage currents which flow in the circuits simulating the actual circuit of domestic premises. Also, operating time and current of ELB are measured by an experimental approach. A common specification of ELB used in this paper has a sensitivity of 30[mA] for leakage current working on the current-balance principle. Total charges and energy of leakage currents are calculated quantitatively by a theoretical approach and compared with the results obtained from experiments.

  • 회로이론의 분야는 꾸준히 성장하여 왔고 System modeling과 system analysis가 새로운 분야로서 등장되어 IEEE에서도 1972. 9. 18. Circuits group를 circuits & Systems Society로 개칭하게 되었다. 회로이론과 그 기교는 비단 전기 및 전자공학에만 적용되는것이 아니라 대시스템분야, 생의학분야, 경제분야에도 공히 적용될 수 있다. 본고에서는 회로 및 시스템분야에 있었던 주요 연구경향을 1974 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and System에 근거를 두고 미국중심으로 살펴보고 국내 전기 및 전자공학회지를 추적하여 최근의 국내 및 국외 연구동향에 대하여 알아보고자 한다.

낮은 Subthreshold 누설전류를 갖는 CMOS 논리회로 (CMOS Logic Circuits with Lower Subthreshold Leakage Current)

  • We propose a new method to reduce the subthreshold leakage current. By moving the operating point of OFF state MOSFETs through input-controlled voltage generators, logic circuits with much lower leakage current can be built with few extra components. SPICE simulation results for the new inverter show correct logic results without speed degradation compared to a conventional inverter.

  • Ballasts for HID lamp need a igniter to start the lamp with very high voltage over several kV. Electronic ballasts use various internal igniter in electronic circuits. The paper describe the simulation method for designing the igniter, which helps selecting the component properly by estimating operation voltage and current in circuits.

  • Small impedances in the superconducting Parallel circuits cause unequal distribution of the currents in the circuits. This results in Quenches or losses in some superconducting parts. This paper presents the fabrication and test results of a multi-interphase transformers (IPT) for equal current distribution in parallel circuits. Test results show that the IPT can effectively make the current distribution uniform in parallel circuits that have unequal resistances.

  • In order to effectively protect electrical and electronic circuits which are extremely susceptible to lightning surges, multi-stage surge protection circuits are required. This paper presents the operational characteristics of the two-stage hybrid surge protection circuit in extra-low voltage DC power lines. The hybrid surge protective device consists of the gas discharge tube, transient voltage suppressor, and series inductor. The response characteristics of the proposed hybrid surge protective device to combination waves were investigated. As a result, the proposed two-stage surge protective device to combination wave provides the tight clamping level of less than 50V. The firing of the gas discharge tube to lightning surges depends on the de-coupling inductance and the rate-of-change of the current flowing through the transient voltage suppressor. The coordination between the upstream and downstream components of the hybrid surge protective device was satisfactorily achieved. The inductance of a de-coupler in surge protective circuits for low-voltage DC power lines, relative to a resistance, is sufficiently effective. The voltage drop and power loss due to the proposed surge protective device are ignored during normal operation of the systems.

Application of Constraint Algorithm for High Speed A/D Converters

  • In the paper, a new Constraint algorithm is proposed to solve the fan-in problem occurred in the encoding circuitry of an ADC. The Flash ADC architecture uses a Double-Base Number System(DBNS). The DBNS has been known to represent the Multidimensional Logarithmic Number System (MDLNS) used for implementing the multiplier accumulator architecture of FIR filter in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications. The authors use the DBNS with the base 2 and 3 in designing ADC encoder circuits, which is called as Double Base Integer Encoder(DBIE). A symmetric map is analyzed first, and then asymmetric map is followed to provide addition ready DBNS for DSP circuitry. The simulation results of the DBIE circuits in 6-bit and 8-bit ADC show the effectiveness of the Constraint algorithm with $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The DBIE yields faster processing speed compared to the speed of Fat Tree Encoder (FAT) circuits by 17% at more power consumption by 39%.
