  • The effects of electric field frequency on the ac electrical treeing phenomena in an epoxy/reactive diluent/layered silicate (1.5 wt%) were carried out, in needle-plate electrode arrangement. A layered silicate was exfoliated in an epoxy base resin, by using our ac electric field apparatus. To measure the treeing propagation rate, constant alternating current (AC) of 10 kV with three different electric field frequencies (60, 500 and 1,000 Hz) was applied to the specimen, in needle-plate electrode arrangement, at $30^{\circ}C$ of insulating oil bath. As the electric field frequency increased, the treeing propagation rate increased. At 500 Hz, the treeing propagation rate of the epoxy/PG/nanosilicate system was $0.41{\times}10^{-3}$ mm/min, which was 3.4 times slower than that of the epoxy/PG system. The electrical treeing morphology was dense bush type at 60 Hz; however, as the frequency increased, the bush type was changed to branch type, having few branches, with very slow propagation rate.

  • In this paper, we present the analytical models for the change of the lateral electric field distribution and the velocity saturation region length with the electron trapping of stressed SC-PMOSFET in the saturation region. To derive the hot-electron-induced lateral electric field of stressed SC-PMOSFET. Ko's pseudo two dimensional box model in the saturation region which illustrates the analysis of the velocity saturation region is modified under the condition of electron trapping in the oxide near the drain region. From the results, we have the following lateral electric field in the y-direction, that is, E(y) ES1satT.cosh(y/l) qNS1tT.sinh(y/l)/lCox. It is shown that the trapped electrons influence the field in the drain region. decreasing the lateral electric field. Calculated velocity saturaion length increases with the trapped electrons. increasing the drain current of stressed SCPMOSFET. This results well explain the HEIP phenomenon of PMOSFET's.

  • The fabrication of devices using plans technology could lend to n serious degradation in the breakdown voltage as a result of high electric field at the edges. An elegant approach to reducing the electric field at the edge is by using field limiting ring. The presence of surface charge has n strong influrence on the depletion layer spreading at the surface region because this charge complements the charge due to the ionized acceptors inside the depletion layer. Surface charge of either polarity can lower the breakdown voltage because it affects the distribution of electric field st the edges. In this paper we discuss the influrences of fixed oxide charge on the breakdown voltage of the p+/n junction with field limiting ring(or without field limiting ring).

  • In this paper, in order to obtain the statistic information for parameters of electric and magnetic field waveforms associated with lightning discharges, the electric and magnetic fields produced by lightning discharges in the summer of 1995 were measured by a hemisphere-type electric field sensor and a loop-type magnetic field sensor, which were installed at the campus of Inha University in Inchon. The signals of the electric and magnetic fields were continuously recorded by a transient digitizer having a resolution of 12 bit and a memory capacity of 5000 point. Negative lightning discharges are produced very more than positive lightning discharges in the summer of Korea. The 10 to 90 % rise time of electric and magnetic fields was 2 $2\;{\sim}\;10\;{\mu}s$. And the zero-crossing time of electric field was $15\;{\sim}\;25\;{\mu}s$, whereas that of magnetic field was $20\;{\sim}\;30\;{\mu}s$.

  • In micro- and nanoflows, the Boltzmann distribution is valid only when the electric double layers (EDL's) are not overlapped and the ionic distributions establish an equilibrium state. The present study has numerically investigated unsteady two-dimensional fully-developed electroosmotic flows between two parallel flat plates in the nonoverlapped and overlapped EDL cases, without any assumption of the Boltzmann distribution. For the study, two kinds of unsteady flows are considered: one is the impulsive application of a constant electric field and the other is the application of a sinusoidally oscillating electric field. For the numerical simulations, the ionic-species and electric-field equations as well as the continuity and momentum ones are solved. Numerical simulations are successful in accurately predicting unsteady electroosmotic flows and ionic distributions. Results show that the nonoverlapped and overlapped cases are totally different in their basic characteristics. This study would contribute to further understanding unsteady electroosmotic flows in micro- and nanofluidic devices.

  • Electro-rheological(ER) fluids are suspensions in which rheological properties show an abrupt change with variation of electric fields. We modeled the parallel-plates relating to ER-Valve system and yielded shear stress according to the strength of electric field. The purpose of the present study is to examine the flow characteristics of ER fluids according to the strength of electric field between parallel-plates. Then the steady relationship between pressure drop and flow rate of the ER fluids between parallel-plates under application of an electric fields was measured. The pressure drop and flow rates of ER fluids under the application of electric fields for steady flow were measured. For the experiment, we used the ER fluids, 35w% zeolite having hydrous particles and differential pressure gauge. This test reviewed experiment for the special changes of ER fluids in the steady flow condition.

  • This paper describes the application of two and three dimensional electric field analysis for vacuum interrupter with spiral contacts. The electric potentials of floating arc shield and electric fields in a vacuum interrupter are analysed at various gap distances from 1mm to 12mm. The electric potentials of floating shield is increased with the gap distance, which is because the relative position of shield is closer to the fixed contact so that the capacitance distribution inside interrupter is varied. The calculated results show that the maximum value of electric field in a vacuum interrupter with floating shield is nearly same to that without shield at short gap distance below 5mm, however at longer gaps more intensive electric field is achieved in interrupter with shield comparing with the model without shield, which is due to the influence of charged floating shield.

  • Due to advancement of industrialization, the flue gas from the combustion of industrial factories and various means of transportation have polluted air. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new techniques of air purification. In order to produce a more effective reactor, simulation were conducted using the Flux-II D program. The condition of the simulation were as follows: The height of the plate electrode was 0 mm or 2 mm higher than that of the wire electrode. The distance between the electrodes was 12 mm, and the diameter of the wire electrode was 0.5 mm or 1.0 mm. The results of the electric potential and electric field simulations show that pollutants will be more effectively removed due to the dielectric strength between wire electrode and plate electrode which was strong, and wire electrodes which were concentrated in a high electric field.
