  • In terms of quality of life, leisure and health have become important issues with increasing incomes and decreasing working hours in Korea. This study empirically investigates the effects of urban open space on outdoor leisure activities, emphasizing that parks, river banks, and physical activity sites can provide opportunities such as walking, jogging, stretching, and cycling, free of charge to all residents. Based on 2010 sample survey data on leisure activities, multiple regression model as well as hierarchical linear model are estimated, taking account of both individual characteristics on demand and environmental/areal factors on supply side, including open space. Major findings include: first, urban open space significantly increases residents' outdoor leisure activities, second, the effect is more significant for the elderly and third, the effect is more valid for those with relatively low incomes and less education. These results imply that urban open space could be available as a local public good to cope with population aging and to realize health city and social welfare, since this space is not only a leisure place but also public health and welfare facilities.

  • This study was conducted to empirically verify the factors that affect work-life balance according to the age of social workers. The subjects of the study were social workers working at social welfare centers, welfare centers for the disabled, and welfare centers for the elderly located in Jeollabuk-do, and 313 copies of 42 facilities that participated in the survey were used for the final analysis. The research method used a multi-level model that calculated individual factors (Level 1) and institutional factors (Level 2). The main research results are as follows. First, 20.2% of the total variance in the work-life balance of social workers was found to be different for each local welfare center. Second, as a result of examining the factors affecting work-life balance of social workers by age, it was found that job demands had a negative effect on work-life balance in all age groups. In particular, in their 30s, family demands and women's work-life balance were more negative than men's, and economic status was found to be an important influencing factor on work-life balance. Based on these results, we discussed ways to improve work-life balance for social workers.

  • This study was conducted to identify the relationship between negative emotion and obesity and provide adequate information to enable effective nursing intervention in elderly. Participants were 216 elderly who had been attending two geriatric welfare facilities in Chungbuk. The data were collected between 14 and 30 August, 2017 with a structured questionnaire and body measurement. The questionnaires were CES-D, RULS, BPS and collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ${\chi}^2-test$, Fisher' exact tests, Pearson's correlation, and logistic regression with SPSS/WIN 22.0. The mean BMI of participants was $23.59{\pm}3.48$ and the prevalence of obesity was 31.9%. Significant differences were observed in age (${\chi}^2=8.16$, p=.003), gender (${\chi}^2=9.27$, p=.002), smoking (${\chi}^2=7.78$, p=.004), depression (t=2.54, p=.012) and social isolation (t=2.98, p=.003) between the normal and obesity groups. Depression (OR,1.04; 95% CI, 1.00-1.09) and social isolation (OR, 1.06; 95% CI, 1.02-1.11) was associated with an increased risk obesity. Therefore, it was necessary to measure and quantify the depression and social isolation for weight management among the elderly. Moreover, it is necessary to develop health promotion programs and nursing intervention, including the need for physical, mental, and social relationships.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate levels of dementia knowledge, dementia attitude, and physical activities and whether dementia knowledge and dementia attitude affect physical activities in old-old elderly who had high risk of dementia. A descriptive study design was used. Participants were 218 old-old elderly above 75 years at 9 elderly welfare facilities in K county from June 1 to 30 in 2016. Collected data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, hierarchical regression using SPSS WIN 18.0 program. The mean scores of dementia knowledge, dementia attitude, and physical activity of participants were low, there were positive correlations between dementia knowledge and dementia attitude (r=.380, p<.001), and physical activities (r=.211, p=.002), and between dementia attitude and physical activities (r=.380, p<.001). The significant predictors of physical activities were dementia attitude (${\beta}=.271$, p<.001), gender (${\beta}=.207$, p=.003) and education level (${\beta}=.184$, p=.023). These variables explained 28.8% of physical activities. In conclusion, we need to develop a customized multifactorial physical activity program with considering dementia knowledge and dementia attitude especially for old-old elderly women with low education level.

The survey was performed with 1,038 elders aged over 60 who were using the senior health town of Gwang-ju Metropolitan City by using a self-administered questionnaire and being interviewed with surveyors. The period of the survey was from the 10th to 15th of December, 2010. According to the results of this study, variables affecting the elders' quality of life were academic qualification (B= .074, p<0.05), instructors satisfaction (B=.172, p<0.001), staff satisfaction (B=.104, p<0.01), and facilities and environment satisfaction (B=.217, p<0.001). That is, the lower academic background they have, the higher instructors', staff's, facilities and environment's satisfaction are, the quality of life in the elder was positively affected. • There have been many requests for development of senior housing in Korea. Therefore it was very important to review how senior houses are established and managed in other countries. In this point, this research compared the actual conditions of the homes for the elderly in the U.K, U.S.A and Japan. Through the process, this research aimed to find the implications for Korea. The research was conducted by the literature review on senior congregate housing with Franklin's(1998) social constructionism perspective. This kind of research might be utilized as a theoretical framework for performance of any systems of housing for the aged. In this study, the researchers suggested the implications of senior congregate housing as follows. Firstly, in terms of structural context, government in the U.K, U.S.A., and Japan were positively concerned with solving the housing problems for senior citizens despite some differences. Secondly, from an institutional context, institutions related with provision, construction, and management of senior congregate housing were systematically consolidated and they all adapted the housing and welfare policy. Thirdly, in organizational context, there was an organization in charge of provision and management that exclusively oversaw the housing for the elderly in both the public and private sectors. Fourthly, in operational context, standards regarding space were clearly set both for individual units and common spaces as well as for facilities and services for the residents. Finally in terms of intersubjective context, the competency of housing manager and ways to involve the families which were important for residents' independent life were under study.

  • The general public's interest in dementia has increased recently as dementia has become a social issue due to its rapid aging. Several dementia prevention and rehabilitation programs are being carried out at the dementia rehabilitation center and at the old welfare center depending on the number of dementia patients. In this paper, a 3 dimensional finger and motion search of the leap motion is utilized and combined with dementia preventive and cognitive rehabilitation programs at various facilities. We suggest technologies that can provide both fun and effective treatment and rehabilitation content for rehabilitation therapists. A variety of cognitive enhancement content is designed using finger tracking and configured to be recorded in the database for rehabilitation programmes to increase the effectiveness of management.
