  • Positioning accuracy largely depends on the variation of friction force in guide table, geometric accuracy of feed unit like as ballscrew and controllable accrecy of servo unit, in general. This paper deals with improvement of microstep resolution about hydrostatic table. Torque control mode have a advantage in microstep test, and more stable than velocity control mode in low velocity motion. Hydro static table have the elastic behavior within several .mu.m, so different character exist between the elastic motion and rolling motion. Integral gain is dominant than other gain in elastic motion. In order to improve response time in elastic motion, increasing gain is suggested within the stable region.

  • In the design and operation of robitic arm with flexible links, the equation of motion are required to exactly model the interaction between rigid body motion and elastic motion and to be formulated efficientlyl. In this paper, the flexible link is represented by applying the D-H rigid link representation method to measure the elestic deformation. And the equations of motion of robotic arm, which are configured by the generalized coordinates of elastic and rigid degrees of freedom, are formulated from the principle of virtual power. Dynamic characteristics due to elastic deformation of each link are obtained by using F. E. M to model complex shaped link acurately and by eliminating elastic modes of higher order that do not largely affect motion to reduce the number of elastic degrees of freedom. Also presented is the result of simulation of flexible robotic arms whose joints are controlled by direct or PD control.

  • In this paper, the boom of a floating crane is modeled as a 3-dimensional elastic beam in order to analyze the dynamic response of the crane and its cargo. The boom is divided into more than two elements based on finite element formulation, and deformation of each element is expressed in terms of shape matrix and nodal coordinates. The equations of motion for the elastic boom consist of a mass matrix, a stiffness matrix, and a quadratic velocity vector that contains the gyroscopic and Coriolis forces. The size and complicity of the matrices increase in proportion with the number of elements. Therefore, it is not possible to derive the equations of motion explicitly for different number of elements. To overcome this difficulty, matrices for one 3-dimensional element are expressed with elementary sub-matrices. In particular, the quadratic velocity vector is derived as a product of a shape matrix and a 3-dimensional rotation matrix. By using the derived matrices, the equations of motion for the multi-element boom are automatically constructed. To verify the implementation of the elastic boom based on finite element formulation, we simulated a simple vibration of the elastic boom and compared the average deformation with the analytic solution. Finally, heave motion of the floating crane and surge motion of the cargo are presented as application examples of the elastic boom.

  • In order to analyze pulsating flows in elastic blood vessels, a method based on the ALE concept and finite volume method was reformed and modulated to include wall motion of elastic vessels and impedance phase angle(phase difference between wall motion and blood flow). Our study indicated wall shear rates(WSR) were significantly influenced by the wall motion and the impedance phase angle. For larger wall motion more than $5{\%},$ the computed WSR started to deviate from the results of the perturbation theory that assumed smaller wall motion. The study showed that oscillatory shear index increased as the impedance phase angle became more negative like $-70{\circ}\;or\;-80{\circ}$ due to reduced mean WSR and increased amplitude of WSR. This result indicated that hypertensive patients are more vulnerable to atherosclerosis than normal persons because of the role of more negative impedance phase angles usually observed in these patients.

  • This paper is concerned with the application of perturbation method to the dynamic analysis of free-free beam. In general, the rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations are analyzed separately. However, the rigid-body motions cause vibrations and elastic vibrations also affect rigid-body motions in turn, which indicates that the rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations are coupled in nature. The resulting equations of motion are hybrid and nonlinear. We can discretize the equations of motion by means of admissible functions but still we have to cope with nonlinear equations. In this paper, we propose the use of perturbation method to the coupled equations of motion. The resulting equations consist of zero-order equations of motion which depict the rigid-body motions and first-order equations of motion which depict the perturbed rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations. Numerical results show the efficacy of the proposed method.

  • This work presents the reconstruction of impact force produced by the collision between two elastic structures. The 2-DOF impactor was designed. The shape control of impact farce using correlations of the dynamic characteristics and impact force history between two elastic structures is accomplished. The effects of the relative motion between impactor and elastic structure on the impact force shape are studied. Reconstruction characteristics of impact force in cantilever beam are reviewed.

  • The secondary motion of piston occurs due to the transient forces and moments in the clearances between piston skirt and cylinder liner The motions are very related to the skirt profile and the magnitude of piston-pin offset. Above all, the elastic deformation is another major effect on the piston secondary motion that has not been considered in the previous researches. In this work, the effects of elastic deformation of the piston skirt on the secondary piston motion are studied for the frictional power loss by using commercial softares, PISDYN and ANSYS.
