A Study on Successful Community of Practice Strategy and Implementation : Case Study of 'S' Corporation's Knowledge Management (성공적 지식경영을 위한 CoP 운영전략 : S사의 지식경영구축 사례를 중심으로)

  • Effective knowledge sharing and creating requires human networking as well as system. Corporation 'S' organized 'community of practice(CoP),' which is a virtual group based on work process, skill, and interest. The purpose of this study is to suggest effective CoP establishment and implementation methods, based upon 'S' experience. The effective methods this study suggests are : setting up clear CoP objectives by each CoP; dual CoP system with career centered and subject centered; alignment with business strategy; guide by knowledge integrator, and professional competence development as CoP purpose. Key success factors to CoP activities also include effective communication, facilitators' competency, and managers' support.

Concrete Shear Strength of HIRC Beams Reinforced with a SMA

  • The aim of the study is to evaluate the concrete shear strength and structural behavior of two general beams and eight shape memory alloys (SMAs)-reinforced beams under the flexural test. This work compares the existing reference formula for concrete shear strength with test result to provide the basic data for the design of highly intelligent reinforced concrete (hereinafter, HIRC) beams. The evaluation of the concrete shear strength was performed with effective depth (d=65, 70, 80), SMA diameter change (ø=2.0, 2.5) as the main variables of the specimens. For the relationship between the effective depth and the $V_{\exp}/V_{cal}$, the test result shows that the concrete shear strength gradually approaches 1.0 as the effective depth length increase. For the AIJ formula, the specimens are approached evenly for comparison between $V_{\exp}/V_{cal}$ and the by-product (garnet, fly-ash) reinforced specimen; however, other formulas indicate a deviation.

  • Due to their flexible tailoring qualities, composites have become fascinating materials for structural engineers. While the research area of fiber-reinforced composite materials was previously limited to synthetic materials, natural fibers have recently become the primary research focus as the best alternative to artificial fibers. The natural fibers are eco-friendly and relatively cheaper than synthetic fibers. The main concern of current research into natural fiber-reinforced composites is the prediction and enhancement of the effective material properties. In the present work, finite element analysis is used with a numerical homogenization approach to determine the effective material properties of jute fiber-reinforced epoxy composites with various volume fractions of fiber. The finite element analysis results for the jute fiber-reinforced epoxy composite are then compared with several well-known analytical models.

  • It is well known that the entrained air in oil causes appreciable reduction in the stiffness of hydraulic systems. It makes the response delay of the systems and sometimes destroys the stability. Because the hydraulic systems of automatic transmissions are operated in relatively low pressure and high temperature, it is very important to analyze the effects of the air included in automatic transmission fluid. However, it is difficult to derive the generalized model to describe the effective bulk modulus theoretically or measure it in actual operating conditions of automatic transmissions. This paper reviews previous studies of the air effects in hydraulic systems and the measurement techniques of the effective bulk modulus in operating conditions. Based on this work, the theoretical model with moderate complexity and the measurement technique of the effective bulk modulus considering entrained air effect at real operating conditions are suggested. Our paper also shows that the quantity of the entrained air in the automatic transmission fluid can be estimated from the experimental results.

An Effective Approach of Installation of Surge Protective Devices for AC Mains (전원선용 SPD의 효과적인 설치기법)

  • Recently, damages of electronic equipments due to lightning surges coming from AC power lines are increasing. In this work, to propose the effective installation methods of surge protective devices(SPDs), the protective performances of SPDs in actual-sized test circuits were experimentally investigated. In order to obtain the lowest limiting voltage and best protection, long leads of SPDs in installation practices are significantly undesirable. An effective installation method of SPDs for AC mains was proposed. The way of installing SPDs at every branch circuits is more effective than that of installing a SPD near the point of entry.

Vibration Suppression Control for Mechanical Transfer Systems by Jerk Reduction

  • This paper considers vibration suppression of a mechanical transfer system, where the work is connected with the hand flexibly. We adopt the idea of jerk reduction of the hand. From the equation of motion, we first derive a state equation including the jerk and acceleration of the hand, but excluding the displacement and velocity of the work. Then, we design optimal state feedback for a suitable cost function, and show by simulation that jerk reduction of the hand is effective for vibration suppression of the work and improvement of the settling time. Since state feedback including the jerk and acceleration is not practical, we propose a computation method for optimal feedback using displacements and velocities in the state only.

  • In the conventional sliding mode control technique, a priori knowledge of the bound of external disturbances or/and parameter uncertainties is required to assure control robustness. This, however, may not be easy to obtain in practical situation. This work presents a novel methodology, a sliding mode controller with perturbation estimator, which offers a robust control performance without a priori knowledge about the perturbations (disturbances and parameter uncertainties). The proposed technique is featured by an integrated average value of the imposed perturbation over a certain sampling period. This work also proposes two effective actuating methods of the perturbation estimator: on-off condition and filtering condition. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, a two-link robotic system is adopted and its position control performance is evaluated. In addition, a comparative work between the conventional technique and the proposed one is undertaken.

  • In this work, a new non-lithographic micro-fabrication technique is presented. The motivation of this work is to overcome the demerits of the most commonly used photo-lithographic techniques. The micro-fabrication technique presented in this work is a two-step process which consists of mechanical scribing followed by chemical etching. This method has many advantages over other micro-fabrication techniques since it is simple, cost-effective, rapid, and flexible. Also, the technique can be used to obtain a metal structure which has sub-micrometer width patterns. In this paper, the concept of this method and its application to microsystem technology are described.
