A Study on Image Processing Algorithms for Improving Lane Detectability at Night Based on Camera (카메라 기반 야간 차선 인식율 개선을 위한 영상처리 알고리즘에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, to control the existing headlamp control system using steering wheel angle more efficiently and more actively, image processing algorithm which improved the detection rate of lane at night based on camera was suggested. And to recognize road lane more clearly in the conditions of low illumination, new algorithms were developed in the aspects of improving brightness, extracting clear lane edge and using the characteristics of lane. Through this research, it turned out that lane detection ability by using the normalized stretching, angular mask and expected-area scan have good performance in the night compare to existing algorithms.

Building Recognition using Image Segmentation and Color Features (영역분할과 컬러 특징을 이용한 건물 인식기법)

  • This paper proposes a building recognition algorithm using watershed image segmentation algorithm and integrated region matching (IRM). To recognize a building, a preprocessing algorithm which is using Gaussian filter to remove noise and using canny edge extraction algorithm to extract edges is applied to input building image. First, images are segmented by watershed algorithm. Next, a region adjacency graph (RAG) based on the information of segmented regions is created. And then similar and small regions are merged. Second, a color distribution feature of each region is extracted. Finally, similar building images are obtained and ranked. The building recognition algorithm was evaluated by experiment. It is verified that the result from the proposed method is superior to color histogram matching based results.

  • 얼굴 영역 검출의 수행 방법으로 개선된 얼굴 칼라 히스토그램과 에지 정보를 결합한 검출 시스템을 제안한다. 배경이 복잡한 영상에서 사람의 얼굴 영역과 배경 영역이 얼굴 영역과 비슷한 칼라 분포를 가지는 물체를 포함하는 영상이더라도 강인한 추출이 가능하도록 하였다. 본 논문에서는 효율적인 얼굴 검출을 위하여 얼굴의 칼라 분포를 얼굴 칼라의 확률 히스토그램으로 모델링하고 에지 정보와 reconstruction에 의한 형태학적 필터링(morphological filtering)을 적용하여 얼굴 후보 영역을 검출한다. 검출된 후보 영역에서 얼굴 구성 요소간의 위치 관계를 이용하여 눈동자와 흰자위의 명도차 특성으로 눈 영역의 위치를 추정하고 상대적인 위치 관계로 입 영역을 추정하여 얼굴 구성 요소의 정보를 얻어서이 요소 정보가 존재하는 후보 영역들이 최종적으로 얼굴 영역으로 판단되어 검출된다. 제안한 방법을 여러 영상에 이용하여 좋은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

Stereo Image Processing Algorithm to Preceding Vehicle Detection Based on DLI (차선변이 함수 기반의 선행차량 인식 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes an image processing algorithm for detecting obstacles on road using DLI(disparity of lane-related information) that is generated by stereo images acquired from dual cameras mounted on a moving vehicle. The DLI is a disparity that is acquired using a single lane information from road lane detection. For the purpose to reduce processing time, we use small block of edge-histogram based blocking logic. This algorithm detects moving objects such as preceding vehicles and obstacles. The proposed algorithm has been implemented in a personal computer with the road image data of a typical highway. We successfully performed experiments under a wide variety of road conditions without changing parameter values or adding human intervention. Experimental results also showed that the proposed DLI is quite successful.

  • When a real-time image processing application is implemented with a general-purpose computer, CPU (Central Processing Unit) is usually heavily loaded and in many cases that CPU alone cannot meet the real-time requirement at all. Most modern computers are equipped with powerful Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to accelerate graphics operations. There is a trend that the power of GPU outgrows that of CPU. If we take advantage of the powerful GPU for more general operations other than pure graphics operations, the processing time can be reduced. In this study, we will present techniques that apply GPU to general operations such as image processing procedures. Our experiment results show that significant speed-up can be achieved by using GPU.

Generic Obstacle Detection on Roads by Dynamic Programming and Remapping of Stereo Images to a Virtual Top-View (스테레오영상의 가상의 탑뷰변환과 동적계획법에 의한 도로상의 장애물 검출)

  • In this paper, a novel algorithm capable of detecting generic obstacles on a flat surface is proposed. The algorithm fundamentally exploits a distortion phenomena taken place in remapping process of original stereo images to a virtual top-view. Based on the distortion phenomena, we construct stereo polar histograms of edge maps, detect peaks on them, and search for matched peaks on both histograms using a Dynamic Programming (DP). Eventually, the searched corresponding peaks lead to estimate obstacles' positions. The advantages of the proposed algorithm are that it is not largely affected by an intensity difference between a pair of stereo images and does not depend on the typical stereo matching methodologies. Furthermore, the algorithm identifies the obstacles' positions quite robustly.

  • This paper introduces a method about water line detection using SAR image. The method includes pre-processing of the SAR image with the threshold of the histogram to recognize the boundary between the water and the landmass area. Finally we applied the image differentiation to detect the water line in the SAR image. The TerraSAR-X and the Cosmo-SkyMed images, which are the high spatial resolution X-band SAR data, are used for the evaluation of our algorithm. The accuracy is verified over the stream line in urban area with the result from the Cosmo-SkyMed.

  • A content-based image retrieval system using MPEG-7 is designed and implemented in this thesis. The implemented system uses existing MPEG-7 Visual Descriptors. In addition, a new descriptor for efficient retrieval of bio images is proposed and utilized in the developed content-based image retrieval system. Comparing proposed CBSD(Compact Binary Shape Descriptor) with Edge Histogram Descriptor(EHD) and Region Shape Descriptor(RSD), it shows good retrieval performance in NMRR. The proposed descriptor is robust to large modification of brightness and contrast and especially improved retrieval performance to search images with similar shapes. Also proposed system adopts distributed architecture to solve increased server overload and network delay. Updating module of client efficiently reduces downloading time for metadata. The developed system can efficiently retrieve images without causing server's overload.

  • 본 논문에서는 원영상 영역내 포함된 우성의 에지에 대한 구체적 정보를 이용하기 위하여 Haar 웨이블릿을 이용한 에지영상 추출한다. 추출된 에지영상에 얼굴영역을 검출하기위해 이진화된 영상에 설정된 임계값을 통하여 얻은 이진영상으로부터 얼굴영역을 검출하기 위하여 얼굴의 일반적인 구조적 정보와 처리시간이 빠른 수평, 수직히스토그램 분석법을 이용하였다. 얼굴영역을 분리한 영상에 얼굴영역의 특징벡터를 구하기 위하여 26개의 특징벡터를 사용한 효율적인 고차 국소 자동 상관함수를 사용하였다. 계산된 특징벡터는 BP 신경망의 학습을 통하여 얼굴인식을 위한 데이터로 사용하여 제안된 알고리즘에 의한 인식률향상과 속도 향상을 입증한다.

Distance Detection Using Wavelet in Stereo Images (스테레오 영상에서 웨이블릿을 이용한 거리정보 검출)

  • In this paper, we propose a method of detecting the distance between two vehicles by computing the disparity of the close-rang vehicle stereo image using two digital cameras. The boundary(or edge) of the object considered the vehicle is obtained by using the modified wavelet transform which has multi-resolution characteristics. We analyze the histogram using the coarse-to-fine method considering a whole feature and increase the resolution to obtain the exact disparity. From the results, the distance of the close-range vehicle is detected effectively by using our proposed method.
