A number of both teacher variables and classroom environment variables were also examined. One hundred and ninety three Korean early childhood teachers and 385 Chinese early childhood teachers responded to the TeacherQuestionnaireas issued. The results of this study were as follows. First, Korean early childhood teachers showed higher scores in terms of teachers' beliefs about DAP than DIP (Developmentally Inappropriate Practice). Chinese early childhood teachers showed higher scores for teachers' beliefs about DIP. Second, Korean teachers' scores in terms of instructional activities for DAP showed differences depending on the degree of teaching experience and the teachers' age, and the scores for instructional activities related to DIP did not show any differences in any of the teacher variables. On the other hand, Chinese teachers exhibited different scores for the instructional activities for both DAP and DIP, again depending on the amount of teaching experience, the teachers' ages, and the ages of the children they taught. Third, a relationship between teachers' beliefs and instructional activities for DAP was found to be in evidence in Korea, but not in China.

The number, characteristics and density of superordinate concepts on the contents of early childhood nutrition education were analyzed. The results were as follows: Firstly, the most frequent superordinate concept was dietary habits. Secondly, food culture was the highest average of the number of subordinate concepts. In a hierarchy, food culture was also the highest score. In specificity scores, food was the highest score. And the density ranged from 0.33 to 3.60. In conclusion, the teachers' knowledge structure on early childhood nutrition education could be regarded as parallel, not well-integrated, rather than hierarchical or well-organized. • The purpose of this study was to develop a valid and reliable early childhood teacher efficacy scale. As part of this process, the final version of the early childhood teacher efficacy scale was examined in order to reflect the characteristics of the subjects who participated in this study, namely, 598 in-service teachers employed at kindergartens and child care centers. Our data was analyzed according to both the reliability and validity of the scale. the main results of this study were as follows. The overall internal consistency was relatively high (Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ = .91~.93). In addition, the content reliability was examined by a panel of experts in the field. The results of the factor analyses identified 6 sub-constructs with 59 items, thus clearly establishing the construct validity. Moreover, the concurrent validity of this scale was established. The results of correlational and t-test analyses found that the constructs of this scale reflected the characteristics of early childhood teachers.

  • This study examined the mediating effect of emotional labor in the relations between teachers' emotional intelligence and teacher-child interaction of novice early childhood teachers. The sample consisted of 248 novice early childhood teachers in Gyeonggi Province. The structural equation modeling was conducted using AMOS to test the fit of a hypothesized structural model. The mediating effect of emotional labor was verified by the bootstrapping approach. The results were as follows: First, teacher-child interaction was positively associated with teachers' emotional intelligence and deep acting in emotional labor was negatively associated with surface acting in emotional labor. Next, surface acting in emotional labor had a mediating effect on the relations between emotional intelligence and teacher-child interaction. Finally, deep acting of emotional labor had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between emotional intelligence and teacher-child interaction. Based on these findings, ways to enhance teachers' emotional intelligence in relation to the novice teachers' emotional characteristics, and to improve recognition on emotional labor were discussed.
