The participants were 131 young children in kindergartens or nursery schools and their mothers from Seoul, Gyeonggi and Chungnam province. The instruments were the Korea Learning Readiness Test, Young Children's Creative Traits Test, and Young Children's Personality Test. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA, t-test, Pearson's partial correlation, stepwise multiple regression, and Scheff$\'{e}$ test by SPSS PC(version17.0) program. The results were as follows. Firstly, there were no significant differences in young children's learning readiness, creative trait and personality by children's age, location, school type, father's age, mother's educational level and mother's job type, while there were significant differences in the creative trait and the subfactor scores of personality by children's sex, father's educational level and parents' job type. Secondly, there was a positive partial correlation(r = .20~.24) between young children's learning readiness and creative trait, while there were no correlations between their learning readiness and personality and between their personality and creative trait. Thirdly, cognitive factor of creative trait and father's educational level did not effectively explain the children's learning readiness.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception and needs on development of lecture to promote creative personality of pre-service teachers. The subjects were 161 students in 4th grade in early childhood education department. The questionnaire was composed of 3 items of 'recognition of creativity personality lecture' and 7 items of 'demand of development for creativity personality lecture'. The data was analyzed frequency and percentage by descriptive statistics. In the results, first, most of pre-service teachers recognized the importance on development of creativity personality lecture, and support of 'development and application of creativity personality lecture'. They recognized that creativity personality lecture was effective. Second, more than half of them responded that they would take creativity personality lecture, and this lecture was most appropriate 2 courses and 3 hours 10 weeks per semester. They demanded a lot of propensity element among creativity education elements, convergence classes in various fields, teaching medium for 'movie and music', and 'portfolio evaluation'.

The purposes of this study were to identify the relationship between children's personality traits and self-esteem, and to find out if there were any differences in the relationship patterns in terms of children's sex. The questionnaire were collected from 984 subjects in 5th grade of elementary schools located in cities of Seoul, Suwon, Daejeon, and Daegu. Results showed that personality factors such as stability, sociability, responsibility, and superiority had stronger correlations with self-esteem factors whereas masculinity, activity level, and reflectivity did so to a less degree. Children's personality factors such as superiority, sociability and responsibility were better predictors of their self-esteem factors such as scholastic competence, social acceptance and general self-worth. Girls showed higher level of stability, sociability, responsibility and superiority, however there was no sex difference in the self-esteem such as scholastic competence, social acceptance and general self-worth. Children's behavioral conduct were mainly explained by masculinity, activity level, and responsibility. Responsibility turned out to be the strongest predictor of behavioral conduct among boys, while the activity level did among girls.
This study sought to determine wether the reliability of the KIP-C is affected by mothers' scores on of MMPI. Particiapants in this study were 100 mothers whose children visited the a children's psychiatric hospital. They were sorted into two groups; diagnosis consistent group and diagnosis inconsistent groups. the diagnosis inconsistent group showed significantly higher scores on L(p<.001) and K(p<.001) scales, while the diagnosis consistent group had higher scores on F, Ma and Si scales. When comparing the KPI-C of the groups, the diagnosis consistent groups showed significantly higher scores in ANX, SOM and HPR scales(p<.05). A correlation analysis of the validity scales of MMPI and the scales of KPI-C also showed significant correlation. It was also shown that the characteristics of the mothers' personality have important effects on their perception of their children's problems. In particular, the stronger the mothers defensive characteristics, the lower the reliability of their perception of their children's problems. Reciprocally, reliability was higher when the mothers acknowledged their problems.
Objective: This study investigated the effects of discussion using personality picture books on young children's self-regulation ability and pro-social behaviors. Methods: Participants consisted of thirty-nine 5-year-old children who were going to a kindergarten in Gwangju metropolitan city. Nineteen children belonged to the experimental group and twenty children to the comparative group. The experimental group carried out discussion using personality picture books, and the comparative group carried out conversation activities. Results: The results of this study demonstrated that the experimental group scored higher than the comparative group in self-regulation ability and pro-social behaviors. That is to say, the experimental group scored higher than the comparative group in three sub factors of self-regulation ability and seven sub factors of pro-social behaviors. Conclusion/Implications: It is significant that this study provides useful information about discussion using personality picture books with young children that can be used in the early childhood field.
This research has an objective of investigating the challenges that student teachers encounter during practicum, the difference between teachers' image based on sociodemographic variables, recognition and satisfaction for practicum, and the effect of teachers' image and practicum experience on the satisfaction for the practicum. The participants of this study included 500 student teachers who enrolled in the department of early childhood education in a 2 or 3-year college or a 4-year university and completed practicum in the Chungcheong area. The instruments for this study were Teacher's Image Scale, Practicum Experience Scale, Practicum Satisfaction Scale and a questionnaire for sociodemographic variables. The results were as follows: First, the highest level of teachers' image was obtained for student teachers enrolled in a 2-year college, completed practicum in large cities and finished practicum at an institution with a size of 3-6 classes. Also, the highest level of 'recognition for practicum' of student teachers was observed when they were instructed by a guidance teacher with a degree from a graduate school and with a first degree certification in public kindergarten. Second, the satisfaction for practicum of student teachers was mostly affected by' the atmosphere of the practice institutions', while personality affected the teachers' image.
The aim of this study was to construct a pre-parent education program for unmarried university students on theological, practical, and psychological bases. Literature related to this subject was reviewed. and the social needs of pre-parent education, the developmental-psychological needs of university students, and the satisfaction of a pre-parent education program were investigated. A pre-parent education program consisting of 3 thematic areas was identified for future parents: the need to improve knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The program content areas were; self awareness, family life-cycle and parental role and social issues arising from dysfunctional family behavior. Multiple instructional strategies were used such as lectures, video tapes, reflective thinking, discussions, debates, role-plays, group presentations, and personality inventories over the course of 16 weeks. The assessment also identified 3 thematic areas and demonstrated improvement of knowledge, altitudes, and skills in the 3 areas.
Objective: This study investigated 5-year-old children's developmental levels for creative and social personalities according to gender, and whether participation in STEAM-based unplugged robotic activities can improve their creative and social personalities. Methods: Participants were 5-year-old children (N=125) from 11 child care centers. The experimental group included 29 boys and 24 girls enrolled in classrooms that implemented an unplugged activities curriculum over five weeks. The control group consisted of 38 boys and 34 girls. Data were analyzed using a t-test and analysis of covariance, and Hedges' g was used to measure effect size. Results: First, the participating children's mean scores on creative and social personalities were 3.20 and 3.53 on a 5-point Likert scale, respectively. Girls scored higher than boys in sensitivity-various interests and imagination-playfulness domains of creative personality and all three domains of social personality. Second, children in the experimental group showed improvement in all domains of social personality and the effect size was large. They also improved in three domains (openness-humor, imagination-playfulness, independency-immersion) of creative personality, although the effect size was small. Conclusion/Implications: The results imply that implementing a robotics curriculum with unplugged play activities in early childhood classrooms contributes to 5-year-old children's development of creative and social personalities.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the We Start center visiting intervention program on the positive changes in the developmental areas and literacy interests of young children from low-income families. The subjects were 195 young children (109 in the experimental group, M=71.7 months; 86 in the control group, M=73.3 months) living in We Start areas (Ansan, Gwangmyeong, and Suwon cities) of Gyeonggi-do. The We Start center visiting intervention programs were conducted for 30-34 weeks in each city, and pre-tests and post-tests were conducted before and after the intervention programs. The instruments used were the developmental checklist and the literacy interests test The developmental checklist consisted of 7 domains (personality & sociality; language, reading, & writing; scientific thinking; mathematical thinking; arts; social learning; and physical development). The literacy interests test consisted of 2 factors (interest in literacy and interaction during activity). The scores on the developmental checklist showed positive changes in several domains (personality & social development; language, reading, & writing ability; scientific thinking; and social learning), but not in mathematical thinking, arts, and physical development. Second, the results of the literacy interests test showed positive effects on interaction during activity and the total score. In conclusion, the We Start center visiting program for young children from low-income families is an effective early intervention program to end the intergenerational transference of poverty in Korea.
