  • This paper presents an EMQ model which determines an economic manufacturing quantity in an unreliable machine. It is assumed that life time of a machine is generally distributed and it requires an instantaneous repair time when a machine fails. Depending on various types of failure rate function of a machine, it is discussed how to determine an EMQ and prove its uniqueness. Variations of an EMQ depending on repair cost are also examined. Through numerical experiments, extensive investigations are carried out on the effects of repair cost and setup cost to an EMQ as well as average cost, and some interesting behaviors are observed.

  • This paper presents EMQ models in which some proportion of defective items are produced and some of them are converted to good items through rework process and items not converted are disposed. Numerical models are developed for three cases of disposal and optimal solution of each model is derived. In the first model, if a defective item is found during the production process, only re-workable items are stored and reworked after normal production is finished. Not re-workable items are disposed immediately during normal production. The second model deals with the case where all defective items are stored and items to be disposed are determined in rework process. In the third model, an additional inspection process exists before rework to determine rework or disposal. Numerical examples are presented to validate the proposed models.

  • This paper presents an extended EMQ model which determines an optimal production quantity for a single stage production system when defective items are stochastically produced in the production process and they are re-processed in the rework process to convert them into non-defectives. Through the mathematical modeling, an optimal solution minimizing the average cost per unit time and minimum average cost as well as some properties are derived. It can be shown that each of the existing models is a special case of the proposed model under some conditions. Numerical experiment is carried out to examine the behavior of the proposed model and support properties derived.

  • This paper presents an EMQ model which determines an optimal manufacturing lot size in an unreliable machine. The machine has an exponentially distributed life time, and requires a constant time to repair when it fails. We 1) derive an average cost function, 2) obtain an optimal lot size and show that it is unique, 3) carry out sensitivity analysis to examine the effect of machine parameters (life time, time to repair) to optimal lot size.

  • This paper presents an extended EMQ model which determines an optimal production run length in an deteriorating production process. The production process is subject to a random deterioration from an in-control state to an out-of-control state and thus producing some proportion of defective items. Defective items produced are re-processed in the rework process to convert them into non-defectives. Through the mathematical modeling, an optimal solution minimizing the average cost per unit time as well as minimum average cost are derived. Numerical experiment is carried out to examine the behavior of the proposed model depending on model parameters.

  • This paper studies an economic manufacturing quantity (EMQ) model with two types of failures and planned preventive maintenance of the production facility. One is a type I (major) failure which should be corrected by a failure maintenance and the other is a type H (minor) failure which can be minimally repaired without interrupting the production run. The objective is to determine the lot size and preventive replacement policy minimizing the long-run expected cost per unit time. We consider a control policy with a constant production lot size and preventive maintenance after completing n production runs. It is assumed that both preventive and failure maintenance times are random and the demand arriving during a stock-out period is lost. An expression for the expected cost per unit time is obtained in the general case. A special case is discussed and numerical results are provided.

  • This paper addresses the effects of an imperfect production process on the optimal production quantity and quality inspection policies. The system is assumed to deteriorate during the production process. The results are either defective products or machine breakdown whether multiple quality inspection is worth or not. Furthermore, when multiple inspection policy is adopted, the optimal inspection schedule is shown to be equally spaced throughout the production cycle. Exact solution and approximation of the optimal production quantity and approximation of the optimal number of inspection are provided. Finally, to better understand the model of this paper, comparisons between this model and classical EMQ model are provided.

  • This paper addresses the effects of an imperfect production process on the optimal production quantity and quality inspection policies. The system is assumed to deteriorate during the production process. The result are either the production of a number of defective items or the breakdown of the production meachine. A simple rule has been suggested to determine whether multiple quality in spection is workth or not. Furthermore, when multiple inspection policy is adopted, the optimal in spection schedule is shown to be equally spaced throughout the production cycle. Exact solution and approximation of the optimal production quantity and approximation of the optimal number of inspection are provided. Finally , to better understand the model of this paper, comparisons between this model and classical EMQ model are provided.

  • This paper presents on EMQ model which determines an optimal production run length in a deteriorating machine. It is assumed that a machine is subject to a random deterioration from an in-control state to an out-of-control state with on arbitrary distribution and thus producing some proportion of defective items. An optimal production run length and a minimum average cost are derived in each of three deteriorating processes; constant, linearly increasing, and exponentially increasing. The model with repair cost is also analyzed. Several mistakes in previous research are found and discussed. Numerical experiments are carried out to see the behavior of the proposed model depending on the cost factors as well as machine parameters, and some interesting behaviors are observed.
