This paper presents the numerical simulation results for the dynamic responses of two types of submerged floating tunnels (SFT) under wave and/or seismic excitations. Time domain simulations are conducted by the commercial program OrcaFlex (OF) and in-house CHARM3D program (CP). The dynamic performances of a short/rigid/free-end SFT section with vertical and inclined mooring lines are evaluated. The SFT numerical models were validated against Oh et al.'s (2013) model test results under regular wave conditions. Then the numerical models were further applied to the cases of irregular waves or seismic motions. The main results presented are SFT surge/heave motions and mooring tensions. The general trends and magnitudes obtained by the two different software packages reasonably agree to each other along with experimental results. When seabed seismic motions are applied to the SFT system, the dynamic responses of SFTs are small but dynamic mooring tension can significantly be amplified. In particular, horizontal earthquakes greatly increase the dynamic tension of the inclined mooring system, while vertical earthquakes cause similar effect on vertical mooring system.

Load representation has a significant impact on power system analysis and control results. In this paper, composite load models are developed based on on-line measurement data from a practical power system. Three types of static-dynamic load models are derived: general ZIP-induction motor model, Exponential-induction motor model and Z-induction motor model. For the dynamic induction motor model, two different third-order induction motor models are studied. The performances in modeling real and reactive power behaviors by composite load models are compared with other dynamic load models in terms of relative mismatch error. In addition, numerical consideration of ill-conditioned parameters is addressed based on trajectory sensitivity. Numerical studies indicate that the developed composite load models can accurately capture the dynamic behaviors of loads during disturbance.

In this study, a new algorithm analyzing dynamic crack propagation problem by the coupling technique of Meshfree Method and Finite Element Method is proposed. The coupling procedure of two methods is presented with a short description of Meshfree Method especially, Element-free Galerkin (EFG) method. The elastodynamic fracture theory is presented, and a numerical implementation procedure for dynamic fracture analysis by Meshfree Method is also discussed. A couple of dynamic crack propagation problems illustrate the performance of the propsed technique. The accuracy of numerical solutions by the developed algorithm are compared with those of analytical solutions and experimental ones.

In this paper, the finite element equations for the time-domain numerical analysis of transient dynamic axisymmetric problems are newly presented. which are based on the equations of motion in convolution integral as in the previous paper. A hollow cylinder subjected to a sudden internal pressure is solved first as a benchmark problem and then the dynamic stress concentrations are analyzed in detail far hollow cylinders having inner and outer circumferential grooves subjected to sudden internal or axial loadings, all the computed results are compared with the existing or the computed ones obtained by using the commercial finite element packages Nastran and Ansys to show the validity and capability of the presented method.

This paper presents a dynamic model for escalators to be used for the analysis and design of low vibration escalators. The dynamic model is developed so as to reflect the physical observation on peculiar characteristics such as the difference between up moving and down moving, and the resonance affected by the load applied. For validation of the dynamic model developed, experimental results are compared with numerical results from the model. The numerical study shows that the developed model is useful for analysis and design of escalator systems.
The dynamic analysis of a plate with non-linearity due to large deformation was investigated in this study. There have been many theoretical and numerical analyses of the non-linear dynamic behavior of plates examining theoretically or numerically. The problem is how correctly an analytical model can represent the dynamic characteristics of the actual system. To address the issue, the continuous-time system identification technique was used to generate non-linear models, for stiffness and damping terms, and to explain the observed behaviors with single mode assumption after comparing experimental results with the numerical results of a linear plate model.

This paper proposes a dynamic analysis method for obtaining exact solutions of composite Timoshenko beams, which are inherently subjected to both the bending , and torsional vibrations. In this paper, the bending-torsion coupled vibration of composite Timoshenko beam is rigorously modelled and analyzed. Two numerical examples are provided to validate and illustrate the bending-torsion coupled vibration of composite Timoshenko beam structure. The numerical examples prove that the proposed method is of great use for the dynamic analysis of dynamic structures composed of multiply connected composite Timoshenko beams.

Numerical analysis of dynamic contact and stress developing in the high-speed driven valve of an internal combustion engine is presented. The valve is modeled by finite element techniques, and the dynamic contact between the valve and the valve seat is analyzed by the solution strategies of differential algebraic equations. Also an iterative scheme similar to the augmented Lagrange multiplier method is employed to enforce the contact constraints. It is shown that the contact and separation between the valve and the valve seat can be computed by the finite element techniques without assuming the artificial springs, and the efficiency and accuracy of the solution are demonstrated by the numerical examples.

This paper presents an efficient modeling and dynamic analysis method for open cracked beam structures. An equivalent bending spring model is introduced to represent the structural weakening effect in the presence of cracks. The proposed method adopts the exact dynamic element method (EDEM) to avoid the inconvenience and numerical errors in association with re-meshing the structural model with the crack position changed. The proposed modeling method is validated through a series of simulation and experiments. First, the proposed method is rigorously compared with a commercial finite element code. Then, two kinds of experiments are performed to validate the proposed modeling method. Finally, a diagnostic scheme fur open cracked beam structures is proposed and demonstrated through a numerical example.

In this study, to investigate the effect of the stress reduction of group piles by dynamic loading, a dynamic p-y curve was established and the dynamic p-multiplier was calculated. Dynamic numerical analysis was performed by input sinusoidal waves to the bottom of the pile - ground system for $2{\times}2$ group pile, single pile and $5{\times}5$ group pile, single pile in dry sandy soil, and the pile spacing was changed to 2.5 and 5.0 times of the pile diameter. By establishing and comparing the dynamic p-y curves of the single pile and group piles, the dynamic group pile effect of the piles according to the pile center spacing and row position of the group pile piles is analyzed. $5{\times}5$ showed symmetry of the dynamic P-multiplier value around the pile origin coordinate. The dynamic p-multiplier value at the single pile, $5{\times}5$ pile (pile spacing: 2.5D) is 0.26 ~ 0.30 at the pile number 3, pile number 23, 0.14 pile number 13, and 0.14 ~ 0.38 at the pile number 5, pile number 18. These values differed from the static p-multiplier, especially due to the different loading conditions. The dynamic p-multiplier ($P_{dm}$) estimation through various types of input dynamic loads is expected to be used for dynamic design and analysis of group pile-ground systems of civil foundation structures.
