  • Exposure to UV light, i.e., UV-A (320-400 nm) or UV-B (290-320 nm) radiation, can cause skin cancer. Titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) effectively disperses UV light. Therefore, it is used as a physical UV filter in many UV light blockers. Usually, the $TiO_2$ content in commercialized UV blockers is 25 % at most. To block UV-B, a chemical UV blocker, octyl-methoxy cinnamate (OMC) is used. OMC is commonly used in combination with $TiO_2$. In this study, $TiO_2$ and OMC were mixed in different proportions to produce UV blockers with different compositions. Also the changes in the sun protection factor (SPF) based on the composition and $TiO_2$ particle sizes were investigated. In order to analyze the $TiO_2$ particle size, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AsFlFFF) were used. The results showed that the SPF was influenced by the proportion of $TiO_2$ and OMC, where the proportion of $TiO_2$ induced a more significant influence. In addition, changes in the $TiO_2$ particle size based on the proportion of OMC were observed.

  • Single crystals of{{{{ { Zn}_{ 1-x} {Mn }_{x }{Te} }}}} with x=0.3-0.6 were prepared by the standard Bridgeman method. Diffuse neutron diffraction intensities due to the short range magnetic ordering is found in the vicinities of 1 1/2 0 reciprocal point and its equivalent point, indicating that the magnetic correlation of the clusters is the type III antiferromangetic one do the F-type Bravais class crystals, being identical with that of {{{{{ Cd}_{ 1-x} {Mn }_{x }Te }}}}. Neutron inelastic scattering measure-ment has been performed for {{{{{ Zn}_{ 0.6} { Mn}_{ 0.4}Te }}}} sample using the cold neutron spectrometer. AGNES. High resolution measurement with the energy resolution of {{{{ TRIANGLE E= +- .01meV}}}} was carried out in the temperature range from 10K to the ambient. Critical scattering, closely related with the spin glass transition, has been observed for the first time in this semimagnetic semi-conductor. The critical scattering is observed at temperatures in the vicinity of the spin glass transition temperature, 17K. The scattering is observed as a kind of quasielastic scattering in the reciprocal range where the elastic magnetic diffuse scattering has been observed, e.g., 11/20 reciprocal point, indicating the spin fluctuation has dynamic components in this material. Photoconductivity has been discovered below 150K in {{{{{ Zn}_{ 0.4} {Mn }_{0.6 } Te}}}}. The electric AC conductivity has been increased dramatically under the laser light with the wave lengths of {{{{ lambda =6328,5145 and4880 }}}}$\AA$ ,respectively. After the light was darkened, the conductivity was reduced to the original level after about 2000 seconds at 50K, being above the spin glass transition temperature. This phenomenon is the typical persistent photoconductivity; PPC which was similarly found in {{{{ { Zn}_{ 1-x} { Mn}_{x} Te}}}}.

  • The o/w emulsions were prepared by lysolecithin as a biosurfactantsto to emulsify oils with squalane(SQ), liquid paraffin(LP), octylpalmitate(OP), octylstearate(OS), alkyl benzoate(AB), isostearyl benzoate(ISB). The droplets size and shape of o/w emulsions were investigated by laser light scattering, With dynamic light scattering hydrodynamic radius(Rh) of emulsion droplets was varied from 150m to 250m and critical concentration of oil In which the hydrodynamic radius(Rh) of emulsion droplets decreased and increased was found in the point of 0.5wt% oil concentration, and it was found increasing the polarity of oil deccreased the droplets, the droplets size of SQ(polar oil) were lower than SQ(nonpolar oil) With static light scattering radius of gyration(R$_{g}$) of emulusion droplets was to be calculated. From measurements of the ratio of R$_{g}$R$_{h}$ it was found that the shape of droplet of ISB, AB(polar oils) were sphere, for OP, OS(apolar oil) were oblate, for LP, SQ(nonpolar oil) were rod. The viscosity of emulsion in the form of rod was higher than that of emulsion in the form of sphere.e.e.

  • In this study, the stability of Ca-bentonite colloids from Gyeongju area was studied by investigating the changes in the size of the bentonite colloids using a dynamic light scattering method depending on the geochemical conditions such as pH and ionic strength. Kinetic and equilibrium coagulation behavior of the bentonite colloids was investigated by changing the pH and ionic strength of the bentonite suspensions. The results showed that the stability of the bentonite colloids strongly depended upon contact time, pH, and ionic strength. It was also shown that the bentonite colloids were unstable at higher ionic strength greater than 0.01 M $NaClO_4$ at whole pH values considered. In addition, the stability ratio Wand the critical coagulation concentration (CCC) were also calculated using the data from the kinetic coagulation experiments. The stability ratio W was decreased as the ionic strength increased and varied with pH depending on the ionic strength. The CCC of the Ca-bentonite colloids was about 0.05 M $NaClO_4$ around pH 7.

  • Adsorption behaviors of positively charged matrix (PAH) onto negatively charged probe (sulfate PS particle) were investigated using DLS (dynamic light scattering) and FPR (fluorescence photobleaching recovery) as view points of matrix and salt concentration. The system experienced sharp decrease of diffusion (flocculation) at dilute condition while the system underwent gradual decrease of diffusion above semi-dilute concentration. With FPR and viscometry experiments, we revealed the probe behaviors in polyelectrolyte solution were strongly affected by the coil overlap concentration (0.5 g/L PAH concentration).

  • A facile and effective approach has been developed to prepare hybrid hollow microspheres, via consecutive processes of pickering mini-emulsion polymerization for core-shell formation, and calcination of the sacrificial core. The resulting hollow composite particles have mono-layered shells. The morphology and size characteristics of synthesized composite particles were investigated, using dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements.

  • In light guide panels, the PMMA sheet that is used in liquid crystal displays plays an important role in scattering the incident light and requires very fine machining as the sheet is directly related to the optical characteristics of the panels. High speed end milling(HSE) and high speed shaping(HSS) processes that are widely adopted and applied to the precise machining of light incident plane through vibration-assisted HSS for increasing the optical quality by minimizing the above-mentioned problems. The cutting tool and the tool post presented in this paper are designed by the authors to increase the magnitude of the cutting stroke by adopting the resonant frequency without weakening the stiffness and to reduce vibrations during even high speed feeding. The dynamic haracteristics of thecutting tool and the tool post are evaluated through simulation and experiment as well. The results reveal very appropriate dynamic characteristics for vibration-assisted HSS.

  • Colloidal silica which has high surface area and excellent surface properties are chemically stable inorganic materials and used for various applications in industry. Silica sol was prepared from sodium silicate solution by acid neutralization method and ion exchange treatment to remove sodium ions. Through the experimental analysis for controlling factors of particle growth rate, such as temperature, pH, and aging time, the uniform size distribution of silica sol could be obtained. The size distribution and shape of silica sol was measured by TEM and dynamic light scattering method. Zeta potential change and gelling phenomena of silica sol and its rheological properties also investigated.
