Static and Dynamic Characteristics of the Spindle Bearing System with a Gear Located on the Bearing Span (베어링 스팬상에 기어구동축을 갖는 스핀들 베어링 시스템의 정적 및 동적 해석방법에 관한 연구)

  • Since the spindle bearing systme is the main source of the total cutting point compliance of machine tool structures, in this work, the static and dynamic characteristics of the spndle bearing systme driven by the gear located on the bearing span were investigated using analytical and finite elemtn methods to improve the performance of the spindle bearing system. Based on the theretical results, a specially designed prototype spindle bvearing systme was manufactured. Using the manufactured spindle bearing system, the static and dynamic characteristics were measured. From the comparison of the experimental results with the theoretical results, it was found that the finite elemetn method predicted well the static and dynamic characteristics of the spindle bearing system.

A comparison of coupled and uncoupled dynamic analysis for the flexible riser in shallow water

  • Flexible risers have been used extensively in recent years for floating and early production systems. Such risers offer the advantage of having inherent heave compliance in their catenary thereby greatly reducing the complexity of the riser-to-rig and riser-to subsea interfaces. Another advantage with flexible risers is their greater reliability. Concerns about fatigue life, gas permeation and pigging of lines have been overcome by extensive experience with these risers in production applications. In this paper, flexible riser analysis results were compared through coupled and uncoupled dynamic analyses methods. A time domain coupled analysis capability has been developed to model the dynamic responses of an integrated floating system incorporating the interactions between vessel, moorings and risers in a marine environment. For this study, SPM (Single Point Mooring) system for an FSU in shallow water was considered. This optimization model was integrated with a time-domain global motion analysis to assess both stability and design constraints of the flexible riser system.

  • In general the data such as thrust, pressure, temperature and combustion time are measured in developing the propulsion system of solid rocket motor through static firing test. But in the case of personal surface to air missile there are required a severe safety specifications in order to eliminate gunner hazard from the exhaust plume of motors. The safety requirements lead to the design of separation device and safety igniter device. The dynamic firing test for the designed two devices should be conducted under the flight environmental conditions to verify the requirements compliance. In this study the technique for dynamic firing test of propulsion system of personal surface to air missile is proposed and the method to design the dynamic test bench is also studied.

  • The research presented in this paper deals with the seismic protection of existing frame structures by means of passive energy dissipation. A displacement-based procedure to design dissipative bracings for the seismic protection of frame structures is proposed and some applications are discussed. The procedure is based on the displacement based design using the capacity spectrum method, no dynamic non linear analyses are needed. Two performance objective have been considered developing the procedure: protect the structure against structural damage or collapse and avoid non-structural damage as well as excessive base shear. The compliance is obtained dimensioning dissipative braces to limit global displacements and interstorey drifts. Reference is made to BRB braces, but the procedure can easily be extended to any typology of dissipative brace. The procedure has been validated through a comparison with nonlinear dynamic response of two 2D r.c. frames, one bare and one infilled. Finally a real application, on an existing 3D building where dissipative braces available on market are used, is discussed.

  • Gantry mechanisms have been widely used for precision manufacturing and material handling in electronics, nuclear, and automotive industries. Dual-drive servo mechanism is a way to increase control bandwidth, in which two primary axes aligned in parallel are synchronously driven by identical servo motors. With this mechanism, a flexible coupling (compliance mechanism) is often introduced in order to avoid the damage by the servo mismatch between the primary drives located at each side of gantry. This paper describes the design guidelines of the dual-drive servo mechanism with focus on its dynamic characteristics and control ramifications. That is, the effect on the system bandwidth which is critical on the system performance, the errors and torques exerted on guide ways in case of servo mismatch, the vibration characteristics concerned with dynamic error and settling time, and the driving force required at each axis for control are thoroughly investigated.

  • The method of analyzing flexible mechanisms with clearances was studied considering flexibility of beams in the mechanism using finite elements. Both ends of a beam were modeled as free following Dubowsky's impact pair model. Instead some force constraints were imposed at imposed at the connections between adjoining links. Coulomb model has been developed using dry frictions in place of tangential damping forces in the impact pair model and the contact compliance and damping coefficient approximated in a form of root function were used. As examples, impacts of a rigid ball in a cylinder, impact beam model and four-bar mechanisms made up of three flexible links with clearance connections were simulated numerically. The results from examples showed similar but a little bit smaller magnitude of impact forces compared with published studies.

  • An approach to robot force control, which allows force manipulations to be realized without overshot and overdamping while in the presence of unknown environment, is given in this paper. The main idea is to use dynamic compensation for known robot parts and fuzzy compensation for unknown environment so as to improve system performance. The fuzzy compensation is implemented by using rule based fuzzy approach to identify unknown environment. The establishment of proposed control system consists of following two stages. First, similar to the resolved acceleration control method, dynamic compensation and PID control based on known robot dynamics, kinematics and estimated environment compliance is introduced. To avoid overshoot the whole control system is constructed overdamped. In the second stage, the unknown environment stiffness is estimated by using fuzzy reasoning, where the fuzzy estimation rules are obtained priori as the expression of the relationship between environment stiffness and system response. Based on simulation result, comparisons between cases with or without fuzzy identifications are given, which illustrate the improvement achieved.

Unconfined Compressive Strength Characteristics and Time Dependent Behavior of Soil-Cement (소일시멘트의 일축압축강도 특성 및 시간의존 거동)

  • As a special concrete, which is a mixture of soil, cement and water, has strength like regular concrete for pavement, soil cement has been used in various field such as pavement and soft soil improvement. The objective of this study was to investigate the characteristic of unconfined compressive strength and time dependent behavior of soil cement that is made from decomposed granite soil or coluvial and inorganic solidification liquid. The results showed that the unconfined compressive strength appears to increase as the amount of cement and curing time increase In addition, the strength seems to decrease with increase of the potion of fine particles(No 200 sieve). The result of XRD indicated that there is Vermiculite, the product of reaction, in the soil cement. The dynamic properties of material, such as shear complex compliance, shear complex modulus, and phase angle could be calculated from the hysteresis loop obtained from the Haversine Creep Tests. Finally, creep behavior was able to be predicted from these dynamic properties.

  • A kinematic analysis method has been used as analysis method for dynamic behavior of moving parts of vehicle, especially hood part. Such analysis method, however, has its limitations in terms of design technology, including, over travel of hood that occurs due to lack of considerations of compliance characteristics, such as flexible components of hood's weather strip and over slam bumper. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a modeling which reflects compliance of flexible components of hood and elastic characteristics of panel for improvement of design process. In this thesis, a finite element method as mentioned earlier, is developed to represent over travel of hood. Also optimization process applying sequential approximate optimization is suggested to prevent over travel. The over travel analysis method and optimization process, which are developed through the research, would make it possible to design with high quality and credibility. Furthermore, it is expected that the time for design would be reduced and the design quality also improved.
