  • The economical detection of dual-tone multifrequency(DTMF) signals is an important factor when developing cost-effective telecommunication equipment. Each channel has independently a DTMF receiver, and it informs the detected signal to processors. This paper analyze the power spectra and evaluate the performance of DTMF receiver by using the quick Fourier transform(QFT) algorithm. As experimental results, it show the improved performance to the DTMF receivers and reduce memory waste and process the real-time.

  • This paper proposes new methods which are used for trouble detecting and tolerance of IED in IEC61850 based Substation Automation System. There are three point devices for construction of this system: Trouble Detection IED, Backup IED and Engineering Unit. Trouble Detection IED tests trouble of Bay IED and sends the result to Engineering Unit. And then Engineering Unit is able to control the system. When fault occurs in Bay IED, Backup IED will be substitute the troubled Bay IED. If this proposed scheme can be used in this system, the reliability of the Power System would be greatly improved.

  • We designed a sensitive and specific PCR-based method with enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC) primer to detect Erwinia pyrifoliae, which cause shoot blight in Asian pear, from a mixed culture and infected plant materials. The primers specifically detected only E. pyrifoliae and showed no cross-reactivity with other bacterial phytopathogens.

  • A method using coloric and spectrophotometric detection have been developed for the identification of the tertiary or quaternary alkaloids contained in Corydalis tuber and its preparations. The principle is based on the formation or decomposition of complex compounds. The complex compound of the tertiary and quaternary alkaloids have been formed by adding tetrathiocyanatocobaltate [II] ion to the test soln. Diverse crude drugs were screened using this method and the results indicated that isoquinoline, aconitine-type alkaloids in crude drugs can be readily detected. The method is simple, convenient, reproducible and applicable to the verification of the crude drug Corydalis tuber and its preparations.

  • To reduce the effect of fault on underground power cable, we need exact and fast fault location detection technique. In this thesis, we describe on filter design technique that can be applied to on-line fault defection technique. To design fitter for fault location defection on Power cable, we should analysis fault signal. So we designed test bed for fault generation and measured fault signals for analysis. Through the analysis of signals, we found that ANC filter can be applied to separate fault signals and we designed a ANC filter. We tested on the designed filter through computer simulation, and we describe its results in this paper.

  • A study on image searching and management techniques is actively developed by user requirements for multimedia information that are existing as images, audios, texts data from various information processing devices. If we can automatically detect and segment changing scenes from real-time image sequences, we can improve an effectiveness of image searching systems. In this paper, we propose cut detection techniques based on image color distribution and we evaluated its performance on various real-time image sequences. Results of experiments show that the proposed method are robust on various image patterns than color histogram method using statistical informations of images. Also, these methods can be used for cut detection on real-time image sequences.

  • A successful on-line monitoring system for conventional machining operations has the potential to reduce cost, guarantee consistency of product quality, improve productivity and provide a safer environment for the operator. In fine-shape machining, typical signs of tool problems such as vibration, noise, chip flow characteristics and visual signs are almost unnoticeable without the use of special equipment. These characteristics increase the importance of automatic monitoring in fine-shape machining, however, sensing and interpretation of signals ar more complex. In addition, the shafts of the mini-tools break before the typical extensive cutting edge of the tool gets damaged. In this study, the existence of a relationship between the characteristics of the cutting force and tool usage was investigated, and tool breakage detection algorithm by LabVIEW was developed and the following results are obtained. It was possible to use a relative error compare which mainly used in established experiment and investigated tool breakage detection algorithm in time domain which can detect AE and cutting force signals more effective and accurate.

  • Rapid and highly sensitive determination of nicotine in a PDMS microfluidic channel was investigated using surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). A three-dimensional PDMS microfluidic channel was fabricated for this purpose. This channel shows a high mixing efficiency because the transverse and vertical dispersions of the fluid occur simultaneously through the upper and lower zig zag-type blocks. A higher efficiency of mixing could also be obtained by splitting each of the confluent streams into two sub-streams that then joined and recombined. The SERS signal was measured after nicotine molecules were effectively adsorbed onto silver nanoparticles by passing through the three-dimensional channel. A quantitative analysis of nicotine was performed based on the measured peak area at 1030 $cm^{-1}$. The detection limit was estimated to be below 0.1 ppm. In this work, the SERS detection, in combination with a PDMS microfluidic channel, has been applied to the quantitative analysis of nicotine in aqueous solution. Compared to the other conventional analytical methods, the detection sensitivity was enhanced up to several orders of magnitude.

  • We describe a common optical system that merges a LADAR system, which generates a point cloud, and a more traditional imaging system operating in the LWIR, which generates image data. The optimum diameter of the entrance pupil was determined by analysis of detection ranges of the LADAR sensor, and the result was applied to design a common optical system using LADAR sensors and LWIR sensors; the performance of these sensors was then evaluated. The minimum detectable signal of the $128{\times}128-pixel$ LADAR detector was calculated as 20.5 nW. The detection range of the LADAR optical system was calculated to be 1,000 m, and according to the results, the optimum diameter of the entrance pupil was determined to be 15.7 cm. The modulation transfer function (MTF) in relation to the diffraction limit of the designed common optical system was analyzed and, according to the results, the MTF of the LADAR optical system was 98.8% at the spatial frequency of 5 cycles per millimeter, while that of the LWIR optical system was 92.4% at the spatial frequency of 29 cycles per millimeter. The detection, recognition, and identification distances of the LWIR optical system were determined to be 5.12, 2.82, and 1.96 km, respectively.
