  • The VSA(Video Signal Analysis) method is the time-domain approach for estimating ultrasonic attenuation which utilizes the envelop signals from backscattered rf signals. The echogenicity of backscattered ultrasonic signals, however, from deeper depths are distorted when the broadband transmit pulse is used and it degrades the estimation accuracy of attenuation coefficients. We propose the modified VSA method using adaptive bandpass filters according to the centroid shift of echo signals as a pulse propagates. The technique of dual-reference diffraction compensation is also proposed to minimize the estimation errors because the difference of attenuation properties between the reference and sample aggravates the estimation accuracy when the differences are accumulated in deeper depth. The proposed techniques minimize the distortion of relative echogenicity and maximize the signal-to-noise ratio at the given depth. Simulation results for numerical tissue-mimicking phantoms show that the Rectangular-shaped filter with the appropriate center frequency exhibits the best estimation performance and the technique of the dual-reference diffraction compensation dramatically improves accuracy for the region after the beam focus.

  • This paper presents an equivalent circuit of the hairpin line filter for accurate analysis and design. Its validity was verified by computer simulations and filter design experiments. Though the various design equations for a hairpin line filter have been proposed, there has not been a practically simplified equivalent circuit because it is hard to effectively represent interconnection effects between non-adjacent elements. In this paper, all the open ports of the hairpin line filter circuit are changed to the short ports using circuit duality, and the resulting circuits are transformed to graph model. The further simplified circuit model is obtained from boundary conditions, and then the final equivalent circuit of the hairpin line filter is derived in a dual structure of the filter.

  • In this paper, a novel fast response NDIR analyzer (FRNDIR), which uses an electrically pulsed semiconductor emitter and dual type PbSe detector for the PPM-level detection of carbon dioxide (CO$_2$) at a wavelength of 4.28 $\mu\textrm{m}$, is described. Modulation of conventional NDIR energy typically occurs at 1 to 20 Hz. To achieve real time high-speed measurement, the new analyzer employs a semiconductor light emitter that can be modulated by electrical chopping. Updated measurements are obtained every one millisecond. The detector has two independent lead selenide (PbSe) with IR band pass filters. Both the emitter accuracy and the detector sensitivity are increased by thermoelectric cooling of up to -20 degrees C in all semiconductor devices. Here we report the use of semiconductor devices to achieve improved performance such that these devices have potential application to CO$_2$ gas measurement and, in particular, the measurement of fast response CO$_2$ concentration at millisecond level.

  • In [1], it is shown that a subclass of ETBFs, which are self-dual ETBFs, can be expressed as a weighted average of median subfiltered outputs. In this paper, we extend this result to general ETBFs. In particular, we show that any ETBF can be represented as a weighted average of minimum (or maximum) subfiltered outputs. These representations naturally lead to a subclass of ETBF, called the K-th order ETBF (K-ETBF) that employs only those subfilters whose window sizes are less than or equal to K. By designing K-ETBFs under the mean square error criterion for various values of K and applying them to restore noisy signals, the tradeoff between the performance and the complexity of this class of filters is examined.

  • This paper introduces the double-density discrete wavelet transform using 3 direction separable processing method, which is a discrete wavelet transform that combines the double-density discrete wavelet transform and quincunx sampling method, each of which has its own characteristics and advantages. The double-density discrete wavelet transform is nearly shift-invariant. But there is room for improvement because not all of the wavelets are directional. That is, although the double-density DWT utilizes more wavelets, some lack a dominant spatial orientation, which prevents them from being able to isolate those directions. The dual-tree discrete wavelet transform has a more computationally efficient approach to shift invariance. Also, the dual-tree discrete wavelet transform gives much better directional selectivity when filtering multidimensional signals. But this transformation has more cost complexity Because it needs eight digital filters. Therefor, we need to hybrid transform which has the more directional selection and the lower cost complexity. A solution to this problem is a the double-density discrete wavelet transform using 3 direction separable processing method. The proposed wavelet transformation services good performance in image and video processing fields.

  • In this paper, a small duplexer is designed and implemented using a H-plane T-junction and Transmitting/Geceiving filte with a dual mode cavity resonator for Ku-band. Transmitting(TX) filter is designed at center frequeny 12.5 GHz and Receiving(RX) filter, at center frequency 14.5 GHz. Both filters have a 100 MHz bandwidth. This duplexer is reduced to about 40% by the conventional duplexer of cavity bandpass filter structure in size. Operating characteristics of duplexer is optimized in order not to distors matching characteristics of each filter when interfaced to a H-plane T-junction. Consequently, the responses of filter with H-plane T-junction nearly coincide with that of filter itself.

  • A new nonlinear filtering algorithm for effectively denoising images corrupted by the random-valued impulse noise, called dual sliding statistics switching median (DSSSM) filter is presented in this paper. The proposed DSSSM filter is made up of two subunits; i.e. Impulse noise detection and noise filtering. Initially, the impulse noise detection stage of DSSSM algorithm begins by processing the statistics of a localized detection window in sorted order and non-sorted order, simultaneously. Next, the median of absolute difference (MAD) obtained from both sorted statistics and non-sorted statistics will be further processed in order to classify any possible noise pixels. Subsequently, the filtering stage will replace the detected noise pixels with the estimated median value of the surrounding pixels. In addition, fuzzy based local information is used in the filtering stage to help the filter preserves the edges and details. Extensive simulations results conducted on gray scale images indicate that the DSSSM filter performs significantly better than a number of well-known impulse noise filters existing in literature in terms of noise suppression and detail preservation; with as much as 30% impulse noise corruption rate. Finally, this DSSSM filter is algorithmically simple and suitable to be implemented for electronic imaging products.

  • Maemi Dual Field Telescope System (MDFTS) is a dual telescope system located at Kyung Hee University. The system consists of 0.4 m telescope and 0.1 m telescope for wide-field observation. The 0.4 m telescope provides photometric observation which covers a field of view of 21'×16'. It has been used for various purposes with Johnson-Cousins UBVRI broadband filter system, e.g., SomangNet and Intensive Monitoring Survey of Nearby Galaxies. In this poster, we present the standard calibration result for our broadband filter system. Also, we suggest a new usage of the KHAO 0.4m telescope which is narrowband photometry by demonstrating the standard calibration of H-alpha filter. For flux calibration, not only R filter but also V filter is used for compensating the central wavelength discrepancy between R filter and H-alpha filter.

  • Dual-mode bandpass filter was designed by using periodic stepped impedance ring resonator with step perturbation. The periodic stepped impedance ring resonator has the effects of size reduction and $2^{nd}$ harmonic suppression by changing characteristic impedance ratio. The perturbation for dual-mode generation was also easily controlled by characteristic impedance ratio, and the variation of dual-mode resonant frequencies and attenuation pole frequencies were analyzed by the effect of step perturbation. Chip capacitors were used for input/output coupling, and the variation of center frequency by the coupling capacitance and step perturbation was also considered. From the results, two types of 2 GHz dual-mode bandpass filter were fabricated in size of $14{\times}14mm^2$, those have different attenuation poles and bandwidths. The measured results of proposed bandpass filters showed a good agreement with the calculated estimations, and those have insertion loss of 2.52, 0.52 dB and 3 dB bandwidth of 4.03, 15.02 %, respectively.

  • This paper describes a multipath estimation method for Global Positioning System (GPS) dual frequency carrier phase measurements. Multipath is a major error source in high precision GPS applications, i.e., carrier phase measurements for precise positioning and attitude determinations. In order to estimate and remove multipath at carrier phase measurements, an array GPS antenna system has been used. The known geometry between the antennas is used to estimate multipath parameters. Dual frequency carrier phase measurements increase the redundancy of measurements, so it can reduce the number of antennas. The unscented Kalman filter (UKF) is recently applied to many areas to overcome some of the limitations of the extended Kalman filter (EKF) such as weakness to severe nonlinearity. This paper uses the UKF for estimating multipath parameters. A series of simulations were performed with GPS antenna arrays located on a straight line with one reflector. The geometry information of the antenna array reduces the number of estimated multipath parameters from four to three. Both the EKF and the UKF are used as estimation algorithms and the results of the EKF and the UKF are compared. When the initial parameters are far from true parameters, the UKF shows better performance than the EKF.
