  • Electric vehicles (EV) are developing fast during this decade due to drastic issues on the protection of environment and the shortage of energy sources, so new technologies allow the development of electric vehicles (EV) by means of electric motors associated with static converters. The proposed propulsion system consists of two induction motors (IM) that ensure the drive of the two back driving wheels. The electronic differential system ensures the robust control of the vehicle behavior on the road. It also allows controlling, independently, every driving wheel to turn at different speeds in any curve. This paper presents the study of an hybrid Fuzzy-sliding mode control (SMC) strategy for the electric vehicle driving wheels, stability improvement, in which the fuzzy logic system replace the discontinuous control action of the classical SMC law. Our electric vehicle fuzzy-sliding mode control's simulated in Matlab SIMULINK environment, the results obtained present the efficiency of the proposed control with no overshoot, the rising time is perfected with good disturbances rejections comparing with the classical control law.

  • As the regulations for Particulate Matter (PM) and Particle Number (PN) emissions from Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) Vehicle stringent recently, a lot of studies have been made on the emission characteristics of PM and PN. In this study, PM and PN emission characteristics were compared to GDI and Multi Port Injection (MPI) Vehicles using the Condensation Particle Counter (CPC) measurement equipment. And driving mode is divided into normal driving mode (CVS-75, NEDC, NIER 6, NIER 9) and a constant speed driving mode (10 km/h, 35 km/h, 80 km/h, 110 km/h) to evaluate the characteristics in the various operating conditions. In the results, most of the driving mode, PM and PN were emitted from GDI Vehicle more than MPI Vehicle. However, in the constant speed mode of 110 km/h, PM and PN from MPI Vehicle were also a lot of emission. It is determined to cause a difficulty in the fuel injection control of the MPI Vehicle.

  • High-brightness LED control is required for stable operation, thus the driver and control system must be designed to deliver a constant current to optimize reliability and ensure consistent luminous flux. In this paper, the sliding mode current controller is designed to adjust the illumination density of power LEDs. The controller design model of power LEDs, including its driving circuit, is proposed to realize the dimming control of power LEDs. A buck converter is introduced to drive the power LEDs and reduce the input voltage to a lower level. The sliding mode software controller is implemented to adjust the dimming of power LEDs. The proposed strategy for driving power LEDs is investigated and comparatively studied by experiments.

  • In this study a three-axes mobile robot which has two independently controlled driving wheels and a function of simultaneously steering the driving wheels has been developed. Two-motion modes of the mobile robot, the first is a differential velocity motion of two driving wheels and the second is a equal driving and steering motion, have been analyzed and the kinematic and dymanic analyses about the each motion mode have been carried out. As a result of dynamic analysis, the torque used on a motor control and acceleration have been derived explicitly. Hence, a computation time is saved effectively and a real time control of the mobile robot considering the dynamics has become possible. Through a simulation the results considering the dynamics have been compared with that no regarding the dynamics and the possibility of real-time control has been proved.

  • In this paper, a high-frequency dual mode control LLC resonant converter with wide input voltage range is proposed through zero voltage switching (ZVS) under the universal line input voltage and every load conditions. Conventional small power adapter driving should be satisfied with universal line input voltage because it has no power factor correction circuit regulation. The conventional LLC resonant converter for an adapter can reduce the size of transformer in terms of high-frequency driving and ZVS. However, this converter has a disadvantage in terms of design of resonant tank under various input voltages because the frequency modulation range is very wide to satisfy voltage conversion gain. Compared with the conventional one, the proposed LLC converter can be adapted to universal line input voltage and high-frequency driving because it is controlled by pulse width modulation and pulse frequency modulation with control voltage. The validity of the proposed LLC converter is proved through the 60 W prototype.

  • The ball screw actuated by the electric motor is widely used as an essential actuator for driving the mechanical system by virtue of accuracy and force transmission capability. In this paper, a design of the global sliding mode control is presented to drive the ball screw actuator along the minimum time trajectory, In the proposed control scheme, if the ranges of parametric uncertainties and torque limits of the system are specified, the arrival time of the load along the minimum time trajectory can be estimated. Also, the arriving time at the reference input and the maximum acceleration are expressed in a closed form solution. Conversely, the capacity of a ball screw actuator including the motor can be easily designed if the external load and its transportation time are specified. The superior performance of the proposed control scheme and analysis is validated by the computer simulation and experiments comparing with other sliding mode controllers.

  • This paper presents a new approach to control of stable motion of single wheel driving robot system of a pitch that is controlled by an in-wheel motor and a roll that is controlled by a reaction wheel. This robot doesn'thave any actuator for a yaw axis control, which makes the derivation of the dynamics relatively simple. The Lagrange equations was applied to derive the dynamic equations of the one wheel driving robot to implement the dynamic speed control of the mobile robot. To achieve the real time speed control of the unicycle robot, the sliding mode control and optical regulator are utilized to prove the reliability while maintaining the desired speed tracking performance. In the roll controller, the sigmoid-function based robust controller has been adopted to reduce the vibration by the situation function. The optimal controller has been implemented for the pitch control to drive the unicycle robot to follow the desired velocity trajectory in real time using the state variables of pitch angle, angular velocity, angle and angular velocity of the driving wheel. The control performance of the control systems from a single dynamic model has been illustrated by the real experiments.

  • This paper describes the optimal sizing of each component using computer simulation and presents the efficient operating scheme of series HEV using hardware simulator the equivalent system. As the sizing method of components have been experimental and empirical it is needed to spend much time and development cost. however the results of computer simulation will set the optimal sizing of components in short time. There are two type of driving control power-tracking mode and load-levelling mode in series HEV. This paper presents that series HEV be operated in the load-levelling mode which is more efficient that power-tracking mode.

  • This paper describes the dual mode control of the LDM(Linear DC motor) for carrier. The dual mode control consists of seek and analogue control. In seek mode, LDM is moved in the shortest time by switching line, and in analogue mode keeps at origion with high accuracy. We proposed different switching line method according to driving direction.

  • In this paper we present the Bimodal-tram simulator using the PXI embedded real-time controllers. The Bimodal-tram is developed in KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute). The vehicle can be automatically operated by navigation control system (NCS). For the automatic driving, the vehicle lanes will be marked with permanent magnets that are placed in the ground. The vehicle is controlled by NCS. NCS governs the manual mode and automatic mode driving. The simulator is designed by an identical conception with the real control condition. The dynamic motion of vehicle is simulated by the nonlinear dynamic model. The control computer calculates the control values. The signal interface is linked by CAN communication. The simulation is processed by real-time base. The test driver can see the graphic motion of vehicle and can operate the steering wheel, gas and brake pedal to control direction and velocity of vehicle during the simulation. At present, the simulator is only operated by manual mode. The automatic mode will be linked after the control algorithm is finished. We will use the simulator to develop the control algorithm in the automatic mode. This paper shows the simulator designed for Bimodal-tram using real-time based controller. The results of the test using the simulator are presented and discussed.
