  • A vehicle driving simulator is a virtual reality device which a human being feels as if the one drives a vehicle actually. The driving simulator is used effectively for studying interaction of a driver-vehicle and developing vehicle system of a new concept. The driving simulator consists of a vehicle motion bed system, motion controller, visual and audio system, vehicle dynamic analysis system, cockpit system, and etc. In it is paper, the main procedures to develop the driving simulator are classified by five parts. First, a motion bed system and a motion controller, which can track a reference trajectory, are developed. Secondly, a performance evaluation of the motion bed system for the driving simulator is carried out using LVDTs and accelerometers. Thirdly, a washout algorithm to realize a motion of an actual vehicle in the driving simulator is developed. The algorithm changes the motion space of a vehicle into the workspace of the driving simulator. Fourthly, a visual and audio system for feeling higher realization is developed. Finally, an integration system to communicate and monitor between sub systems is developed.

  • Recently, the automotive technology has developed with electronics and information technology as convergence technology while vehicles had been regarded as machines. Moreover, vehicles are becoming more intelligent and safer devices, assembly of advanced technologies by customers' demand. Even though all of installations of vehicle have attracted as diverting devices, it cause drivers' mistakes like delay of response on traffic condition. Here, we proposed the Field Operational Test (FOT) environment which could be used as driving and road conditions collector(Vehicle motion, Traffic condition, Driver input, Driver state, etc.) for researches about Driver Friendly Intelligent System(SCC, LDWS, etc.), Human Vehicle Interface(Driving Workload, etc.) and Economic Drive Model. Furthermore driving patten and fuel consumption patten of drivers were analyzed by measured data and direction of future research was suggested.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of club head and golf ball kinematics and body alignment according to the swing plane during golf driver swing. Method: Sixteen college golfers participated in this study. Kinematic data of the club head and golf ball were collected using golf swing analysis system (Trackman Ver. 3e). The body alignment variables were collected using 8 motion capture system. An Independent samples t-test was used for comparison between the Out-to-In group and In-to-Out group, and the statistical significance level was set at .05. Results: For the club head related variables, club path and club face angle showed higher values in Out-to-In swing plane than In-to-Out swing plane. For the kinematic variables of the golf ball, the total distance showed a higher value in the In-to-Out swing plane than that of the Out-to-In swing plane. For the body alignment, the In-to-Out swing plane showed higher values than the Out-to-In swing plane for the pelvis rotation angle and trunk rotation angle. Conclusion: This study suggest that it would be more effective to use the In-to-Out swing plane for increasing the total distance during the golf driver swing.

  • The human arm is modeled by three rigid bodies(the upper arm, the forearm and the hand)with seven degree of freedom(three in the shoulder, two in the elbow and two in the wrist). The objective of this work is to present a method to determine the three-dimensional kinematics of the human elbow joint using a magnetic tracking device. Euler angle were used to determine the elbow flexion-extension, and the pronation-supination. The elbow motion for the various driving conditions is measured through the driving test using a simulator. Discomfort levels of elbow joint motions were obtained as discomfort functions, which were based on subjects' perceived discomfort level estimated by magnitude estimation. The results showed that the discomfort posture of elbow joint motions occurred in the driving motion.

  • In this research a 2-dimensional motion producer based on two linear motors was developed. When the tester provides some motion through the level attached to the upper moving part of the motion producer, it provides the arbitrary intertia, damping and stiffness characteristics without actual change in physical structure of the motion producer. That is, the active impedance is implemented by controlling input currents supplied to the linear motors. A PID controller with feedforward loop was used to control the currents and pre-processing of input velocity and accleration singals from the encoder and the current singnal from the motor driver circuit are conducted to improve the performance.

  • A 90-nm CMOS motion estimation (ME) processor was developed by employing dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) to greatly reduce the dynamic power. To make full use of the advantages of DVFS, a fast ME algorithm and a small on-chip DC/DC converter were also developed. The fast ME algorithm can adaptively predict the optimum supply voltage ($V_D$) and the optimum clock frequency ($f_c$) before each block matching process starts. Power dissipation of the ME processor, which contained an absolute difference accumulator as well as the on-chip DC/DC converter and DVFS controller, was reduced to $31.5{\mu}W$, which was only 2.8% that of a conventional ME processor.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinetic factors of the golf driver swing using the Inverse Dynamics function. For this purpose, joint force were calculated. In order to test the possibility of Inverse Dynamics function(motion-dependent interaction), a triple segmental system was set for wrist, left shoulder and lumbar and joint force working on the anatomical joint region was estimated. For this study, 7 professional golfers were sampled, and then, their driver swings were recorded with two high-speed digital video cameras (180 frames/sec.) to be synthesized into 3-dimensional images and coordinated. Then, Eular's equation was used to produce some kinematic data, which were used to calculate joint force and torque with Newton's function. All data were calculated using LabVIEW 6.1 graphic program. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; It was found that the joint force was generated on wrist, shoulder and lumbar joints in the direction of the target, and that the joint force was stronger in the direction of target immediately before impact. The joint force was generated towards the target to activate the nodes, and then, it was generated in the reverse direction to increase the speed during impact.

  • This study presents a perceptual difference in acceleration sounds of a sporty sedan between the driver and passenger. We found a significant difference in annoyance and sportiness perception according to the acceleration sound level through subjective evaluations. The multimodal reproduction system, which can reproduce the driving image, motion, vibration, and sound, was applied for the test. A subjective experiment was conducted to evaluate the perceived intensity of annoyance and sportiness by varying the acceleration sound level in five steps of 3 dB. The experimental results showed that the driver perceives the acceleration sound less annoying than the passenger at a relatively low sound level. Meanwhile, the driver has perceived the acceleration sound more sporty than the passenger at a relatively high sound level. Moreover, it was found that passengers were 35 % less sensitive to an annoyance than drivers, whereas the driver was 74 % more susceptible to sportiness than passengers according to the sound level change. This finding is expected to be applied as a sound design strategy that differentiates the acceleration sound level in active sound design.

  • A parking-assist system is defined that a driver adjusts vehicle velocity through brake pedal operation and parking-assist system controls the motion of the vehicle to follow a collision-free path. In this study, a motion control algorithm using Fuzzy inference is proposed to track a maneuvering clothoid parallel path. Simulations are performed under SIMULINK environments using MATLAB and CarSim for a vehicle model. As the vehicle model in MATLAB a bicycle model is used including lateral dynamics. The simulation results show that the path tracking performance is satisfactory under various driving and initial conditions.
