Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing the alcohol drinking behavior in female university students. Methods: The subjects were 298 female university students at three universities in J Province and G city. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS/PC+ 15.0. Results: The variables that affected the drinking behavior of female university students were smoking status, pocket money, coping strategy of problem solving, positive expectancy of alcohol drinking and negative expectancy of alcohol drinking. These factors could explain 30.4% of the drinking behavior. Stress did not affect the drinking behavior of subjects. Conclusion: Drinking behavior of the subjects was slightly higher than average for all women. In order to decrease the drinking behavior, the development of drinking reduction programs is needed and it can lead healthy life for female university students.
This is an effort to review epidemiological research on developmental patterns of drinking behavior among youth from adolescence to young adulthood. Selected correlates for changes in drinking behavior include age, antisocial behavior, family influence, and sociodemographic characteristics such as gender, ethnicity and socioeconomic status. An emphasis is given to the relationship between antisocial behavior and developmental patterns of drinking behavior. Also, this review regards observed particular patterns of drinking behavior as being contextualized by group to which individuals belong.

Objects: This study examined the relations among college students' personality characteristics, drink motivation, and drinking behavior. This study also examined the mediating effect of drink motivation on the relationship between college students' personality characteristics and drinking behavior. Methods: The subjects of this study were 210 college students(male: 50, female: 160) attending a university in Chungnam. College students completed the personality characteristics, drink motivation, and drinking behavior scales. The data was analyzed by means of Pearson's correlation coefficients and regressions. Results: Results indicated that college students' neuroticism and extroversion were significantly related to drinking behavior. Also, college students' social motivation and coping motivation were significantly related to drinking behavior. Especially, social motivation fully mediated the relationship between college students' neuroticism and extroversion and drinking behavior. Coping motivation fully and partially mediated the relationship between college students' neuroticism and extroversion and drinking behavior. Conclusions: In this study, the personality characteristics directly influence the drinking behavior, but they found the influence on the drinking behavior through the drink motivation. In particular, it is very necessary to intervene in the development of health education programs that can intervene in drink motivation for college students with neurotic characteristics.

Results: The drinking-related knowledge score after one year was significantly higher than that of pretest (t=-14.02, p=.001) and the drinking-related attitude score was lower (t=2.85, p=.006). The drinking refusal self-efficacy and the drinking behavior measured as number of drinking events, amount of alcohol and number of heavy drinking events were not significantly different between pretest and post test after one year. Conclusion: Drinking prevention program should be given to increase the drinking refusal self-efficacy and decrease or prevent the drinking behavior of high school girls every semester at least.

Purpose: In this study, the effects of an alcohol education program for elderly persons with drinking problems and the effects of knowledge of the behavior associated with alcohol use by elderly individuals with drinking problems were evaluated. Method: A single-group repeated study was conducted to evaluate 19 elderly individuals with drinking problems who used the G-city Elderly Welfare Center, with more than eight points in AUDIT results. The changes in drinking knowledge and alcohol behavior following an alcohol education program were evaluated. The effectiveness of the program was analyzed by a Wilcoxon signed rank test. and the relationship between drinking knowledge and changes in alcohol behavior was measured by Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Results: The results indicated that drinking knowledge after conducting education increased significantly(Z=-3.826, p<.001), and that this increased knowledge resulted in significant changes in alcohol behavior(Z=-3.830, p<.001). There was a significantly positive relationship between drinking knowledge and changes in alcohol behavior(r=.464, p=0.013). Conclusion: Alcohol education programs effectively educate the elderly with drinking problems regarding alcohol, which influences their alcohol behavior.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting the drinking behavior in high school students. Methods: There were 620 subjects who were first and second graders of seven high schools in Daegu. This study used Sinhaengwoo (1998)'s drinking behavior scale, Rowlison and Felner (1988)'s stress scale, Kovacs (1981)'s children's depression inventory, Rosenberg (1965)'s self-esteem scale. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS/win 18.0 program. This study was approved by the Institutional Review Boards (IRB) of the Keimyung university hospital(No. 12-112). Results: The mean score for drinking behavior in high school students was 23.1points. Factors influencing drinking behavior in high school students were identified as self-esteem(t=-3.67, p<.001), stress(t=6.79, p<.001), school types(t=4.02, p<.001), sex(t=-3.67, p<.001). These factors explained 27% of drinking behavior reported by high school students. Conclusion: The results indicate which factors are majors influencing drinking behavior in high school students. Therefore, self-esteem enhancement could be considered as an effective strategy to reduce the drinking behavior in high school students.
This study explores the gender differences in the relationship between social support, social networks and drinking behavior and illustrates gender differences in drinking behavior in order to provide evidence in planning a community health promotion program. Data was collected from 444 surveys (Male=190, Female=244) from a total of 1,899 adult residents in 738 households in the "Y" Apartment Complex in the Gangnam area of Seoul, Korea. Results show significantly higher rates of drinking frequency and alcohol consumption volume in males. Women with high-risk drinking behavior have fewer social relationships than women with normal drinking behavior. Within social networks, friends were significantly associated with drinking behavior and alchol abuse. Drinkers had more friends than non-drinkers in both genders. However, in association with alchol abuse, while male abusers had less friends than normal male drinkers, women abusers had more friends, indicating women who have drinking problems have a stronger social network. This pattern suggests gender differences in the association between social networks and alchol abuse. Therefore in approaching drinking issues, social support and social networks act as a key factor. For men, alcohol prevention programs should be aimed at achieving healthy drinking behavior at the aggregate level including people in his social support and social network groups. For women, the priority is alchol abuse. More attention is required in revealing the context between female social networks and alchol abuse and in developing coping strategies other than drinking.

This study is to analyze positively the effect of related with drinking of university students on drinking behavior public policy implications. By reviewing the theory and preceding research, I assumed that the elements related with drinking such as stress, friend relationship, drinking expectation, self-control, family effect have effects on drinking attitude and drinking behavior. As the result of the study, the stress, friend relationship, drinking expectation, self-control, and family effect which are drinking elements show the meaningful difference on drinking attitude and drinking behavior. In this study, I researched the relative influence of various variables in drinking behavior as elements related with drinking of university students. Based upon these study results, I would like to suggest the political implications as the alternatives.
