  • In this study, the field test for suction drain method which does not require a surcharge load and a sealing sheet was performed at west seashore's site constructed by the dredged and reclaimed clay. The improvements of soft ground by suction drain method was analyzed by the results of real-time field measurement, SPT(Standard Penetration Test) and laboratory tests. The results indicated that the soft ground improvement is effective the vertical drain method used with vacuum pressure rather than surcharge load with considering settlements, dissipation of pore water pressure and shear strength.

  • A calculation method of the breakdown voltage for the drain region with the cylindrical structure in LDMOS is proposed. The depletion region of the drain is divided into many smaller regions and the doping concentration of each split region is assumed to be uniformly distributed. The field and potential in each split region is calculated by the integration of the Poisson equation and the ionization integral method is used to compute the breakdown voltage. The breakdown voltage resulted from the proposed method shows the maximum relative error of 2.2% compared with the result of the 2-dimensional device simulation using BANDIS.

  • Recently, with the increasing of construction works, large construction equipment are used to reduce the term of work and labor cost in construction field. Therefore, construction equipment noise has caused much annoyance for a number of dweller in nearby construction field and it has become a very serious problem in our living environment. Neverthless, in our country, adequite guidelines for the construction equipment noise are very deficiency because of the lack of basic data and insufficient research works. From this point of view, this study attempts to survey the characteristics of attenuation and propagation of Sand Drain Method in construction field. On the basis of measurement value, we analysed about prediction possibility of Sand Drain Method. This study also present a basic data found a effective plans for Sand Drain Method.

  • Suction Drain Method is a relatively new technique to improve soft ground using vacuum pressure which can be directly applied to the soft ground through drains that the pore water pressure around them are decreased without changing total stress. This can accelerate volume changes and increase strength of the ground. This paper shows the results of field test of the suction drain method applied at dredged and reclaimed clay. To evaluate the improvement effects of soft ground by the suction drain method, this paper analyzed real-time field measurements to the results of the laboratory tests and numerical analysis. The comparisons of the settlement and shear strength between suction drain method and surcharge preloading method show possibilities for replacement of the preloading methods. The settlements by suction drain method were 2.3 times larger and undrained shear strength were 300%~400% higher than surcharge method. Moreover, the water content is decreased about 30% and the preconsolidation pressure is increased about $0.52kgf/cm^2$.

  • This study compared the theory of a culvert spacing and analytical results of the seepage flow for the subsurface drainage. i) If culvert spacing (Sc) is within 5 m, the unit drainage (q) is very larger; in contrast, if Sc is 5 m or more, there is very little drainage in the middle between drains. Therefore, the drain spacing should be within 5 m to ensure high drainage efficiency. ii) Since the planned culvert drainage increases linearly with the soil's permeability coefficient (k), k must be taken into account when determining the drain diameter by the planned culvert drainage. iii) As a result of analyzing the drainage performance of the absorbing culvert, the drainage performance is sufficient with the diameter of the corrugated drain pipe Dc = 50 mm at the length of the drain Lc = 100 m. iv) Therefore, if the drain spacing (Sc) is less than 5 m using the low-cost non-excavated drainage pipe method (${\Phi}50mm$ the corrugated drain pipe and fiber mat) rather than the conventional trench drain method (Sc > 10 m, Dc > 100 mm), uniform and high drainage efficiency can be ensured as well as low construction cost. v) The sub-irrigation+drainage culvert requires narrower drain spacing (Sc < 2-3 m) for irrigation. As a result of examining the condition of 35 mm in diameter (Dc) and 2~3 m in drain spacing, it is possible to apply the non-excavated drainage pipe method to the sub-irrigation+drainage culvert because drainage performance is sufficient at the drain length Lc = 50 m.

  • We studied about conductive pastes of the source-drain contacts for OTFTs(organic thin-film transistors) fabricated by direct printing(screen printing) method. We used Ag and conductive carbon black powder as the conductive fillers of pastes. The conductive pastes were manufactured by various dispersing agents and dispersing conditions and source-drain contacts with $100{\mu}m$ of channel length were fabricated. We could obtain the OTFTs which exhibited different field-effect behaviors over a range of source-dram and gate voltages depending on a kind of conductive fillers used conductive pastes.

  • This paper dealt with numerical analysis of sand drain considering the smear effect around drain wells and discontinuous deformation behavior due to difference in rigidity between drain materials and adjacent clayey soils. Biot's equation was selected as governing equation coupled with MODCAM (Modified Cam-clay) model or EVP(Elasto-Viscoplastic) model as constitutive equation. The validity as well as the accuracy of the method developed by author was checked by comparing the proposed method with those by Siriwardane and Ghaboussi using joint element. The FEM analysis developed in this study was applied to both 2-dimensional model foundation and actual foundation. the result of which proved to be satisfactory.

  • Composite discharge capacity tests and smear effect tests are carried out to estimate the parameters for the reliability-based design of vertical drain method. Also the probabilistic and deterministic solutions of radial consolidation theory are presented. It compared to the result of reliability-based design and that of deterministic design using the tested and estimated parameters. The results indicated that the drain spacing is larger the deterministic method than the probabilistic method because the former is not considered the uncertainties in the properties of soil. The divergence of methods is dependent on the probability of achieving target degree of consolidation by a given time and the coefficient of variation(COV) of the coefficient of horizontal consolidation$(c_h)$.

  • Sediments deposited on lateral drain pipes in a tunnel make lateral porous pipes clogged. Since the safety of the tunnel can be affected by this phenomenon, it requires a regular maintenance of the lateral drain pipes. In this study, a series of centrifugal tests were conducted in order to find out the method which can reduce the clogging effect considerably. Four different types of tunnel drain configurations were selected in the experiments. By analysis of sediments for each configuration, the optimum drain configuration that can minimize sedimentation of cement constituents was investigated. As a results, the existing drain configuration which uses filter concrete appear to produce much sediments. In contrast, the new drain configuration appears to be able to reduce sedimentation ratio up to almost 50% comparing with the existing one. From these observations, it may be concluded that the new drain configuration, in which the lateral porous pipes of a tunnel are surrounded by gravel layer and non-woven geotextile, has high efficiency in maintenance.

  • The shortage of bearing capacity and settlement, shear deformation may occur when constructing a structure such as harbor, airport and bridge on soft ground such as marine clay, silty clay, sandy soil because it is very soft. The various ground improvement methods were applied to obtain preceding settlement of soft ground and strength increase. The vertical drain method has been used to reduce the required time for consolidation of the soft ground. Especially, the PBD (Plastic Board Drain) has been widely used among in the vertical drain method. In this study, a behavior of characteristic was evaluated by operating a compound drainage capacity test about the PBD (Plastic Board Drain) method applied in soft clay in deep depth. As a result, the settlement gradually occurred with increase of surface load. The consolidation settlement was processed with dissipation of pore pressure after surface load of $500kN/m^2$. Accordingly, it was found that change of settlement through load steps was resulted from dissipation of pore pressure. It was also found that the drainage capacity of vertical drains was considerably reduced with pressure increase and time elapse.
