Effects of Dietary Fat Level on the Aging Process of the Fibroblast Cells and Immune Function in Rats of Different Ages (식이지방수준이 나이에 따른 흰쥐 섬유아세포의 노화과정 및 면역반응에 미치는 영향)

  • To investigate the influence of age and dietary fat level on the immune function and the growing potential of the fibroblast cells, male rats of 2 month, 6 month and 30 month of age were fed either 6% or 30% fat diet for 16 weeks. The weight of thymus decreased linearly with increasing age. And this age-dependent degeneration of thymus was delayed in rats fed low fat diets. The blastogenesis of spleen lymphocytes to PHA, ConA, and PWM was decreased with increasing age, however, no effect of dietary fat level was observed. The age-related decline in ratios of PHA/ConA response may suggest that T suppressor cell activity increases with age. In cell culture system, lung fibroblast cells from 30M rats showed lower plating efficiency. longer doubling time. and shorter cumulative doubling potential than those from 2M or 6M animals. Also. the morphology of fibroblasts from 30M rats was tended to be rouned rather than flattened and more variable in size and being generally larger. wherease those from 2M and 6M rats were uniform in size and adhered tightly to the culture vessel in ordered arrays. Therefore fibroblast cell culture system tried in this study reflects the changes of cellular aging.

Application of GTH-like algorithm to Markov modulated Brownian motion with jumps

  • The Markov modulated Brownian motion is a substantial generalization of the classical Brownian Motion. On the other hand, the Markovian arrival process (MAP) is a point process whose family is dense for any stochastic point process and is used to approximate complex stochastic counting processes. In this paper, we consider a superposition of the Markov modulated Brownian motion (MMBM) and the Markovian arrival process of jumps which are distributed as the bilateral ph-type distribution, the class of which is also dense in the space of distribution functions defined on the whole real line. In the model, we assume that the inter-arrival times of the MAP depend on the underlying Markov process of the MMBM. One of the subjects of this paper is introducing how to obtain the first passage probabilities of the superposed process using a stochastic doubling algorithm designed for getting the minimal solution of a nonsymmetric algebraic Riccatti equation. The other is to provide eigenvalue and eigenvector results on the superposed process to make it possible to apply the GTH-like algorithm, which improves the accuracy of the doubling algorithm.

노심 동특성 분석 정확도 및 성능 향상을 위한 Time Step 제어방법 개선

  • 동특성 분석 코드 시스템 PANBOX2는 시간에 대한 미분을 Implicit Euler 방법을 사용하여 근사한다. 이 경우 Local Truncation Error는 중성자속의 이차 미분에 비례한다. Time-Step-Doubling 기법을 이용하여 Local Truncation Error의 근사치를 구하고 이를 이용하여 Time Step Size를 조절해 주는 방법을 동특성 분석 코드 시스템 PANBOX2에 도입하였다. LRA와 NEACRP 제어봉 인출사고 검증문제에 대한 분석 결과, PANBOX2 시스템의 기존 방법에 비해 효과적으로 Time Step을 제어하였으며 보다 정확한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

Fabrication and Characteristics of DFB Laser with Absorption Grating (흡수격자를 갖는 DFB 레이저의 제작 및 특성)

  • 1.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ DFB with absorption grating of 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ InGaAsP layer was fabricated. This new type of DFB laser shows self-plusation for DC operation. At low level of injection the relation between the pulsation frequency and the injection current shows similar behavior with the relaxation oscillation of ordinary laser and at high level of injection the pulsation frequency decreases compared to the relaxation oscillation. Period doubling, period 3 and 4 were observed for AC modulation. In case of period doubling the waveform shows only one pulse within a period without any accompanying subsidiary pulses and the oscillation frequency was quite stable. The pulse widths as short as 58.5 ps was achieved with AC modulation. We propose the time division multiplexing application of this kind of DFB laser.

  • The results are summarized as what follows: 1) The modeling of thin beams, which is a continuous system, into a two DOF system yields satisfactory results for the chaotic vibrations. 2) The concept of "natural forcing function" derived from the eigenfunction of the bifurcation mode is very useful for the natural responses of the system. 3) Among the perturbation techniques, HBM is a good estimate for the response when the geometry of motion is known. 4) It is known that there exist periodic solutions of coupled mode response for somewhat large damping and forcing amplitude, as well as weak damping and forcing. 5) The route-to-chaos related with lateral instability in thin beams is composed of period-doubling and quasiperiodic process and finally follows discontinuous period-doubling process. 6) The chaotic vibrations are verified by using Poincare maps, FFT's, time responses, trajectories in the configuration space, and the very powerful technique Lyapunov characteristics exponents.exponents.

  • Transition to chaotic convection is investigated for natural convection of a fluid with Pr=0.1 in a wide-gap horizontal annuls. The unsteady two-dimensional stream-function-vorticity equation is solved with finite difference method. As the Rayleigh number is increased, the steady 'downward flow' bifurcates to a time-periodic flow with a fundamental frequency, and afterwards a period-doubling bifurcation occurs. As the Rayleigh number is increased further, the chaotic flow regime is reached after a sequence of successive Hopf bifurcation to quasi-periodic and chaotic flow regimes. The route to chaos shows the Ruelle-Takens-Newhouse scenario. The flow of chaotic regime displays complex coalescence and separation of eddies in the side and lower region of the annulus.

  • Development of drug resistance in tumors during treatment is a major factor limiting the clinical use of anticancer agents. When tumor cells acquire resistance to anticancer drug, they show cross-resistance to other antitumor agents. In the present study, SNU-1 cell was induced adriamycin $10^{-7}M$ drug resistance, SNU-1/ADR, in vitro culture system. We got the doubling time and number for viability test during 96 hours by MTT assay. To investigate the cross resistance of various anticancer drugs in human stomach cancer cell SNU-1 and SNU-1/ADR. We compared $IC_{50}$ (drug concentration of 50% reduction) and the relative resistance(RR). SNU-1/ADR was expressed multidrug resistant with vinblastine(RR ; 31.62), vincristine(RR ; 29.50), dactinomycin(RR ; 21.37), epirubicin(RR ; 17.78), daunorubicin(RR ; 14.12), adriamycin(RR ; 7.76), and etoposide(RR ; 4.46), and other drugs, 5-fluorouracil, cisplatin, cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, and aclarubicin, have not cross resistant with adriamycin. There was double minute chromosome in SNU-1/ADR by karyotyping although this change was not seen in SNU-1.

Medium Concentration Influencing Growth of the Entomopathogenic Nematode Heterorhabditis bacteriophora and its Symbiotic Bacterium Photorhabdus luminescens

  • The biological control potential of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) can be enhanced by improved culture efficiency. Optimization of the media is a key factor for improving in vitro mass production of entomopathogenic nematodes. This study reports the effect of medium concentration. The medium is a combination of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, sats, and growth factors, on the growth of Heterorhabditis bacteriophora and its symbiotic bacterium Photorhabdus liminescens. The overall optimal medium concentration for nematode recovery, hermaphrodite size, bacterial mass, infective juveniles (IJs) yield, and doubling time was 84 g/l. At this concentration rate, the doubling time of IJs production and the biomass of symbiotic bacteria was 1.6 days and 12.8 g/l, respectively. The maximum yield of $2.4{\times}{10^5}IJs/ml$ was attained within a one-generation cycle (eight days). The yield coefficient was $2.8{\times}{10^6}$ IJs/g medium, and the maximum productivity was $3.1{\times}{10^7}$ IJs per day. Medium concentration affected two independent factors, recovery and hermaphrodite size, which in turn influenced the final yield.

  • Remote sensing science is a rapidly growing field of Earth sciences. Since emergence and to present day, an extensive literature has evolved which traces the wide application of remote sensing in human activities. According to the ISI Web of Science in the 1975-2005 time span more then 20,000 papers were published on remote sensing. The number of papers grew exponentially with doubling period of about 6 years. Notwithstanding all specialized proceedings, there is a lot more remote sensing papers published in a vast list of source titles (up to 350 proceedings). Only 25% of retrieved papers are published in 10 proceedings which ISI assigns to subject category of remote sensing. In 2005 all these proceedings published 1291 articles and received cca 24,000 citations. Average impact factor of the proceedings is equal to 1.181 and average cited half-life is 7.1. It means that an average paper in remote sensing proceedings is cited more then once per year and half of citations the paper receive within the next 7 years after publication. The time line of remote sensing periodicals issued in 1927-1995 shows an exponential growth with doubling period about 15 years. After 1995 there is a prominent deviation from the exponential curve which shows the demand saturation for specialized proceedings. The features revealed are discussed in terms of dynamics and impact of remote sensing in current Earth sciences development.

  • Love which is one of the emotional of mankind, has been studied in sociology and psychology as a matter of great concern. Through such a research, the researchers have provided the basic mathematical model for love model, we cannot find nonlinear characteristics through the basic love model. Therefore, in this paper, in order to find nonlinear behaviors in the basic love model, we apply external force to the basic love model. Then we confirm the existence of nonlinear behaviors through time series and phase portrait. We also confirm that this nonlinear behaviors have the periodic doubling, chaotic phenomena and periodic process which are very similar to typical chaotic occurrence phenomena.
