In the binary system of SiC and carbon, porosity and pore size distribution of green body was controlled by varying pH, by the addition of polyelectrolyte dispersants, and by using different particle size of starting powders. The preforms having different green microstructure were fabricated by slip casting from suspensions having different dispersion condition. The reaction bonding process was carried out for these preforms. The condition of reaction bonding was 1600$^{\circ}C$ and 20 min. under vacuum atmosphere. The analyses of optical and SEM were studied to investigate the effect of green microstructure on that of reaction bonded silicon carbide and subsequently the mechanical properties of sintered body was investigated. Different green microstructures were obtained from suspensions having different dispersion condition. It was found that the pore size could be remarkably reduced for a fine SiC(0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$). The bimodal microstructure was not found in the present study, which is frequently observed in the typical reaction bonded silicon carbide. It is considered that the ratio between SiC and C was responsible for the formation of bimodal microstructure. For the preform fabricated from the well dispersed suspension, the 3-point bending strength of reaction-bonded silicon carbide was 310${\pm}$40 MPa compared to the specimen fabricated from relatively agglomerated particles having lower value 260${\pm}$MPa.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is widely used in cosmetics as a surfactant, detergent and emulsifier. During the manufacturing process, 1,4-dioxane, which is toxic to humans, can be produced as a by-product by dimerization of ethylene oxide. As consumers' interest in cosmetic ingredients has increased, the need for safe emulsion research without PEG ingredients in the personal care market has increased. With increasing consumer interest in cosmetic ingredients, the need for safer emulsion research without the PEG ingredient in the personal care market has increased. In this study, we aimed to develop and stabilize nanoemulsion formulation without PEG. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to develop optimized nanoemulsion formulations. Surfactant content (2~4%), oil content (4~8%) and polyol content (12~24%) were set as independent variables as a result of preliminary experiments for determining independent variables and ranges. The particle size, zeta potential, turbidity, and polydispersity index of the formulation were measured as response variables. As a result of measurement of the prepared nanoemulsion by FIB (Focused ion beam), spherical particles were found to have a size distribution of 100 to 200 nm. The stability of each formulation was evaluated for 30 days at each temperature ($4^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, and $45^{\circ}C$). The optimal formulation considering the optimum particle size, turbidity, polydispersity index and zeta potential was found to be surfactant (2%), oil (8%) and polyol (24%).

The accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) resulted in the deposition of large quantities of radionuclides over parts of eastern Japan. Radioactive contaminants have been observed over a large area including forests, cities, rivers and lakes. Due to the strong adsorption of radioactive cesium by soil particles, radioactive cesium migrates with the eroded soil, follows the surface flow paths, and is delivered downstream of population-rich regions and eventually to coastal areas. In this study, we developed a model to simulate the transport of contaminated sediment in a watershed hydrological system and this model was compared with observation data from eroded soil observation instruments located at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. Two methods were applied to analyze the soil particle size distribution of the collected soil samples, including standardized sieve analysis and image analysis methods. Numerical models were developed to simulate the movement of soil along with actual rainfall considering initial saturation, rainfall infiltration, multilayer and rain splash. In the 2019 study, a numerical model will be used to add rainfall shield effect by trees, evaporation effect and shield effects of surface water. An eroded soil observation instrument has been installed near the Wolsong nuclear power plant since 2018 and observation data are being continuously collected. Based on these observations data, we will develop the numerical model to analyze long-term behavior of radionuclides on land as they move from land to rivers, lakes and coastal areas.

For the removal of cesium (Cs) from high radioactive/high salt-laden liquid waste, this study synthesized a highly efficient composite adsorbent (potassium cobalt ferrocyanide (PCFC)-loaded chabazite (CHA)) and evaluated its applicability. The composite adsorbent used CHA, which could accommodate Cs as well as other molecules, as a supporting material and was synthesized by immobilizing the PCFC in the pores of CHA through stepwise impregnation/precipitation with $CoCl_2$ and $K_4Fe(CN)_6$ solutions. When CHA, with average particle size of more than $10{\mu}m$, is used in synthesizing the composite adsorbent, the PCFC particles were immobilized in a stable form. Also, the physical stability of the composite adsorbent was improved by optimizing the washing methodology to increase the purity of the composite adsorbent during the synthesis. The composite adsorbent obtained from the optimal synthesis showed a high adsorption rate of Cs in both fresh water (salt-free condition) and seawater (high-salt condition), and had a relatively high value of distribution coefficient (larger than $10^4mL{\cdot}g^{-1}$) regardless of the salt concentration. Therefore, the composite adsorbent synthesized in this study is an optimized material considering both the high selectivity of PCFC on Cs and the physical stability of CHA. It is proved that this composite adsorbent can remove rapidly Cs contained in high radioactive/high salt-laden liquid waste with high efficiency.

Caenorhabditis elegans, a free-living nematode mainly found in the soil pore water, roles the critical function in trophic levels, energy flow, and decomposition in soil ecosystem. C. elegans is commonly used species to test soil toxicity. Recently, they are employed broadly as a test organism in nanotoxicology. In this study, a review of the toxicity of nanomaterials for C. elegans was presented based on SCI (E) papers. The nanotoxicity studies using C. elegans have been reported in 20 instances including the mechanism of toxicity. Most studies used K-medium, S-medium, and NGM (Nematode Growth Medium) plate as an exposure medium to test toxicity of nanoparticles. The effects observed include anti aging, phototoxicity, genotoxicity, and dermal effects on C. elegans exposed to nanoparticles. We found that the toxic mechanisms were related with various aspects such as lifespan abnormality, oxidative stress, distribution of particles on inter-organisms, and stress-related gene analysis. C. elegans has advantage to test toxicity of nanoparticles due to various cellular activities, full genome information, and easy observation of transparent body. C. elegans was considered to be a good test species to evaluate the nanotoxicity.
The powder preparation by using emulsion drying method, one of the chemical powder fabrication methods has the advantages; easy to control the chemical stoichiometry and to fabricate homogeneously fine particles. In the present study, the initial morphology and size distribution of the powder fabricated by using emulsion dry-ing method were controlled and were improved the homogeneity. By carefully controlling the mixing ratio of oil phase and aqueous solution and surfactant of preventing emulsion separation, the Bi(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O su-perconducting powders were prepared. The properties of the superconducting powder fabricated by this method and the microstructures and superconducting properties of the pelletized samples were investigated. The microstructures and electric properties of the tapes prepared by oxide powder-in-tube method were in-vestigated. The fabricated powder was spherical with less than 1$\mu$m but most of them was agglomerated with 2~5$\mu$m in size. The critical temperature of the pelletized sample annealed at 84$0^{\circ}C$ for 72 hours in oxygen par-tial pressure of 1/13atm in Ar atmosphere was 108K. And the critical current of the first and second annealed tapes in air prepared by oxide powder-in-tube process were 0.4A and 1.5A, respectively.
This paper explain about the development of environmental friendly, low cost and stable supply material i.e., rice husk and shell were used as micro incorporating bio waste filler. Those were processed by ball mill and analyzed through micro observation by FE-SEM, EDS and particle size distribution. The obtained filler was mixed with epoxy resin for the manufacturing of CFRP composite and study tensile properties. In EDS analysis main contents of rice husk and rice husk ash are C, O and Si. When rice husk was burned C and Si ration were increased. Shell powder has C, O and Ca. It caused $CaCO_3$ from shell. Surface weighted mean of rice husk powder is $6.19{\mu}m$ and volume weighted mean is $14.77{\mu}m$. And it has rod type particles which caused hair and husk structure parts. Surface weighted mean of rice husk ash powder is $1.55{\mu}m$ and volume weighted means is $8.20{\mu}m$. Surface weighted mean of shell powder is $2.53{\mu}m$ and volume weighted mean is $5.79{\mu}m$. The tensile decreased with increasing the content of micro filler in CFRP composites. In case of rice husk, the significant decrement of tensile strength was observed. and in case of shell powder, there is no effect of changes take place in tensile strength.
The catalytic yields of POM to hydrogen over M(1)-Ni(5)/AlCeO3 (M = La, Ce, Y) were investigated using a fixed bed flow reactor under atmosphere. The crystal phase behavior of reduced La(1)-Ni(5)/AlCeO3 catalysts before and after the reaction were studied via XRD analysis. FESEM and EDS analyses were further performed to show the uniformed distribution of La, Ni, and Ce metal particles on the catalyst surface. XPS results showed O2-, O22- species and metal ions such as Ce3+, Ce4+, La3+ and Ni2+ etc. were on the catalyst surface. When 1 wt% of La was added to Ni(5)/AlCeO3 catalyst, Ni2p3/2 and Ce3d5/2 increased 52.7 and 6.3%, respectively. The yield of hydrogen on the La(1)-Ni(5)/AlCeO3 catalyst was 89.1%, which was much better than that of M(1)-Ni(5)/AlCeO3 (M = Ce, Y). As Ce4+ ions of CeO2 produced by the reaction of AlCeO3 with oxygen were substitute to La3+, it made oxygen vacancies in the lattice and further improved the hydrogen yield by increasing the dispersion of Ni atoms with strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) effect.
Rare earth ions, either $Eu^{3+}$ or $Dy^{3+}$-doped $CaMoO_4$ phosphors were synthesized by using the solid-state reaction method. The crystalline structure of all the phosphor powders, irrespective of the type and concentration of activator ions, was found to be a tetragonal system with the main diffraction peak at (112) plane. For $Eu^{3+}$-doped $CaMoO_4$ phosphors, the grain particles showed an increasing tendency and the pebble-like patterns with a very homogeneous size distribution in the range of 0.01~0.10 mol of $Eu^{3+}$ ions concentration, and the excitation spectra were composed of a broad band centered at 311 nm and weak multiline peaked in the range of 360~470 nm. The dominant emission spectrum was the strong red emission centered at 618 nm due to the $^5D_0{\rightarrow}^7F_2$ transition of $Eu^{3+}$ ions. For $Dy^{3+}$-doped $CaMoO_4$ powders, excitation spectra showed a charge transfer band centered at 303 nm and relatively weak bands resulting from the transitions of $Dy^{3+}$ ions and the main yellow emission spectrum was observed at 578 nm, which was assigned to the $^4F_{9/2}{\rightarrow}^7H_{13/2}$ transition of $Dy^{3+}$ ions.
