  • In this paper, we prove the discrete Hardy inequality through the continuous case for decreasing functions using elementary properties of calculus. Also, we prove the Carleman's inequality through limiting the discrete Hardy inequality with applications of Taylor series.

  • By applying the Landau-type transformation, we transform a Stefan problem with nonlinear free boundary condition into a system consisting of a parabolic equation and the ordinary differential equations. Fully discrete finite element method is developed to approximate the solution of a system of a parabolic equation and the ordinary differential equations. We derive optimal orders of convergence of fully discrete approximations in $L_2,\;H^1$ and $H^2$ normed spaces.

  • W. Choi([1]) identified and characterized the limiting diffusion of this diploid model by defining discrete generator for the rescaled Markov chain. We denote by F the homozygosity and by S the average selection intensity. In this note, we define the Fleming-Viot process with generator of limiting diffusion and provide exact result for the relations of F and S.

  • The article deals with the problem of extending representations of a closed normal subgroup H to a topological group G. We show that the standard technique using group cohomology to solve the problem in the case of finite groups can be generalized in the category of topological groups if G/H is discrete.

  • Based on a mixed Galerkin approximation, we construct the fully discrete approximations of $U_y$ as well as U to a single-phase quasilinear Stefan problem with a forcing term in non-divergence form. We prove the optimal convergence of approximation to the solution {U, S} and the superconvergence of approximation to $U_y$.

  • In each step of the quasi-minimal residual (QMR) method which uses a look-ahead variant of the nonsymmetric Lanczos process to generate basis vectors for the Krylov subspaces induced by A, it is necessary to decide whether to construct the Lanczos vectors $v_{n+l}\;and\;w{n+l}$ as regular or inner vectors. For a regular step it is necessary that $D_k\;=\;W^{T}_{k}V_{k}$ is nonsingular. Therefore, in the floating-point arithmetic, the smallest singular value of matrix $D_k$, ${\sigma}_min(D_k)$, is computed and an inner step is performed if $\sigma_{min}(D_k)<{\epsilon}$, where $\epsilon$ is a suitably chosen tolerance. In practice it is absolutely impossible to choose correctly the value of the tolerance $\epsilon$. The subject of this paper is to show how discrete stochastic arithmetic remedies the problem of this tolerance, as well as the problem of the other tolerances which are needed in the other checks of the QMR method with the estimation of the accuracy of some intermediate results. Numerical examples are used to show the good numerical properties.

  • This paper is indented to explain a dynamics on homotopies on the compact metric space, by the envelopes of homotopies. It generalizes the notion of not only the envelopes of maps in discrete geometry ([3]), but the envelopes of flows in continuous geometry ([5]). Certain distinctions among the homotopy geometry, the ow geometry and the discrete geometry will be illustrated. In particular, it is shown that any ${\omega}$-limit set, as well as any attractor, for an envelope of homotopies is an empty set (provided the homotopies that we treat are not trivial), whereas it is nonempty in general in discrete case.

  • The representative numerical algorithms to solve the time dependent Navier-Stokes equations are projection type methods. Lots of projection schemes have been developed to find more accurate solutions. But most of projection methods [4, 11] suffer from inconsistency and requesting unknown datum. E and Liu in [5] constructed the gauge method which splits the velocity $u=a+{\nabla}{\phi}$ to make consistent and to replace requesting of the unknown values to known datum of non-physical variables a and ${\phi}$. The errors are evaluated in [9]. But gauge method is not still obvious to find out suitable combination of discrete finite element spaces and to compute boundary derivative of the gauge variable ${\phi}$. In this paper, we define 4 gauge algorithms via combining both 2 decomposition operators and 2 boundary conditions. And we derive variational derivative on boundary and analyze numerical results of 4 gauge algorithms in various discrete spaces combinations to search right discrete space relation.

  • We consider the following system of discrete equations $u_i(\kappa)\;=\;{\Sigma{N}{\ell=0}}g_i({\kappa},\;{\ell})f_i(\ell,\;u_1(\ell),\;u_2(\ell),\;{\cdots}\;,\;u_n(\ell)),\;{\kappa}\;{\in}\;\{0,\;1,\;{\cdots}\;,\;T\},\;1\;{\leq}\;i\;{\leq}\;n\;where\;T\;{\geq}\;N\;>\;0,\;1\;{\leq}i\;{\leq}\;n$. Existence criteria for single, double and multiple constant-sign solutions of the system are established. To illustrate the generality of the results obtained, we include applications to several well known boundary value problems. The above system is also extended to that on $\{0,\;1,\;{\cdots}\;\}\;u_i(\kappa)\;=\;{\Sigma{\infty}{\ell=0}}g_i({\kappa},\;{\ell})f_i(\ell,\;u_1(\ell),\;u_2(\ell),\;\cdots\;,\;u_n(\ell)),\;{\kappa}\;{\in}\;\{0,\;1,\;{\cdots}\;\},\;1\;{\leq}\;i\;{\leq}\;n$ for which the existence of constant-sign solutions is investigated.
