  • This paper discusses approximation modelling of discrete-time linear time-varying system(LTVS). The wavelet transform is considered as a tool for representing and approximating a LTVS. The joint time-frequency properties of wave analysis are appropriate for describing the LTVS. Simulation results is included to illustrate the potential application of the technique.

  • In this paper, we apply finite element Galerkin method to a single-ohase linear Stefan problem with a forcing term. We apply the extrapolated Crank-Nicolson method to construct the fully discrete approximation and we derive optimal error estimates in the temporal direction in $L^2$, $H^1$ spaces.

  • This paper presents an approximate analysis of the serial production lines using decomposition technique. A serial production line consists of a series of unreliable machines separated by finite buffers. The serial production line is evaluated by approximation method, the results of which are compared with those examined by the discrete time event simulation, based on this approximation method, a gradient technique is proposed, which improves the efficiency of an operation of production line through the re-allocation of buffers.

  • In this work, an efficient and easy statistical method to find an equivalent discrete distribution for a continuous random variable (r.v.) is proposed. The proposed method is illustrated by applying it to the treatment of the anthropometrical noise factors in the context of Robust Ergonomic Design.

  • The problem regarding nonlinear systems has come to occupy an important position. In order to solve a nonlinear problem we have methods of linearization which are developed through linear approximation to adapt linear system theories. In this paper we present a formal linearization of nonlinear systems based on the discrete-Fourier transform (D.F.T.).

  • We consider the discrete-time GI/G/1/K queue under the early arrival system. Using a modified supplementary variable technique(SVT), we obtain the distribution of the steady-state queue length. Unlike the conventional SVT, the modified SVT yields transform-free results in such a form that a simple two-moment approximation scheme can be easily established.

  • By applying the P$_1$ and P$_2$ equations to the operator form of a synthetic acceleration, we derive the p,-acceleration (diffusion synthetic acceleration: DSA) and P$_2$-acceleration (p$_2$SA) schemes in one dimensional slab geometry. We Fourier-analyze the derived acceleration schemes with the discrete-ordinates transport equation and showed that the DSA outperforms the P$_2$SA. These results confirm that one cannot simply assume that replacement of the DSA with a higher order approximation will lead to a better acceleration performance.

  • By applying the Landau-type transformation, we transform a Stefan problem with nonlinear free boundary condition into a system consisting of a parabolic equation and the ordinary differential equations. Fully discrete finite element method is developed to approximate the solution of a system of a parabolic equation and the ordinary differential equations. We derive optimal orders of convergence of fully discrete approximations in $L_2,\;H^1$ and $H^2$ normed spaces.

  • A new method for relative error continuous and discrete time model order reduction is proposed. The reduction technique is based on two recently developed methods, namely frequency domain balanced truncation within a frequency bound and inner-outer factorization techniques. The proposed method is of interest for practical model order reduction because in this context it shows to keep the accuracy of the approximation as high as possible without sacrificing the computational efficiency. Numerical results show the accuracy and efficiency enhancement of the method.

  • A deep water wave prediction model applicable to the East Sea is presnted. This model incorporates rediative transter of energy specrum, atmospheric input form the wind, nonlinear interaction, and energy dissipation by white capping. The propagation scheme by Gadd shows satisfactory results and the characteristics of the nonlinear interaction is simulated well by discrete interaction approximatiion. The application of the model to the sea around the Korean Peninsula shows reasonable agreement with the observation.
