This paper proposes a new discrete curvature error metric to generate LOD meshes. For mesh simplification, discrete curvatures are defined with geometric attributes, such as angles and areas of triangular polygonal model, and dihedral angles without any smooth approximation. They can represent characteristics of polygonal surface well. The new error metric based on them, discrete curvature error metric, increases the accuracy of simplified model by preserving the geometric information of original model and can be used as a global error metric. Also we suggest that LOD should be generated not by a simplification ratio but by an error metric. Because LOD means the degree of closeness between original and each level's simplified model. Therefore discrete curvature error metric needs relatively more computations than known other error metrics, but it can efficiently generate and control LOD meshes which preserve overall appearance of original shape and are recognizable explicitly with each level.

Various researches have been studied on WSN(wireless sensor network) for barbed wire entanglements surveillance applications such as industry facilities, security area, prison, military area, airport, etc. Currently, barbed wire entanglements surveillance is formed wire sensor network environment. Traditional wire sensor network guarantee high data transmission rate. Therefore, wire sensor network use fast fourier transform of data of high transmission rate for extraction of feature parameter. However, wireless sensor network in comparison with wire sensor network has very low data transmission rate. Therefore, wireless sensor network doesn't use fast fourier transform of wire sensor network for extraction of feature parameter. In this paper, proposed method use 1 level approximation coefficient of DTW(dynamic time-warped) algorithms based on DWT(discrete wavelet transform) for extraction of detection feature parameter and classification feature parameter for barbed wire entanglements surveillance. l level approximation coefficient have time information and frequency information of signal. Therefore, Dynamic time-warped algorithms based on discrete wavelet transform improve detection and classification of target rather than using energy of signal.

In this paper, properties of exact confidence interval and some approximate confidence intervals of hyper-geometric parameter, that is the probability of success p in the population is discussed. Usually, binomial distribution is a well known discrete distribution with abundant usage. Hypergeometric distribution frequently replaces a binomial distribution when it is desirable to make allowance for the finiteness of the population size. For example, an application of the hypergeometric distribution arises in describing a probability model for the number of children attacked by an infectious disease, when a fixed number of them are exposed to it. Exact confidence interval estimation of hypergeometric parameter is reviewed. We consider the approximation of hypergeometirc distribution to the binomial and normal distribution respectively. Approximate confidence intervals based on these approximation are also adequately discussed. The performance of exact confidence interval estimates and approximate confidence intervals of hypergeometric parameter is compared in terms of actual coverage probability by small sample Monte Carlo simulation.

The H.264/AVC video coding standard uses rate distortion optimization (RDO) method to improve the compression performance in the intra prediction. The complexity and computational load are increased more than previous standard by using this method, even though this standard selects the best coding mode for the current macroblock. This paper proposes a fast intra mode decision algorithm for H.264/AVC encoder based on dominant edge direction (DED). To apply the idea, this algorithm uses the approximation of discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficient. By detecting the DED, 3 modes instead of 9 modes are chosen for RDO calculation to decide the best mode in the $4{\times}4$ luma block. As for the $16{\times}16$ luma and $8{\times}8$ chroma block, instead of 4 modes, only 2 modes are searched. Experimental results show that the computation time of the proposed algorithm is decreased to about 72% of the full search method with negligible quality loss.
Current in-situ airborne probes that measure the sizes of ice crystals smaller than 50 ㎛ are based on the concept that the measured intensity of light scattered by a particle in the forward and/or backward direction can be converted to particle size. The relationship between particle size and scattered light used in forward scattering probes is based on Mie theory, which assumes the refractive index of particle is known and all particles are spherical. Not only are small crystals not spherical, but also there are a wide variety of non-spherical shapes. Although it is well known that the scattering properties of non-spherical ice crystals differ from those of spherical shapes, the impacts of non-sphericity on derived in-situ particle size distributions are unknown. Thus, precise relationships between the intensity of scattered light and particle size and shape are required, as based on accurate calculations of scattering properties of ice crystals. In this study, single-scattering properties of ice crystals smaller than 50 ㎛ are calculated at a wavelength of 0.55 ㎛ using a numerically exact method (i.e., discrete dipole approximation). For these calculations, hexagonal ice crystals with varying aspect ratios are used to represent the shapes of natural small ice crystals to determine the errors caused by non-spherical ice crystals measured by forward scattering probes. It is shown that the calculated errors in sizing nonspherical ice crystals are at least 13% and 26% in forward (4~12°) and backward (168~176°) directions, respectively, and maximum errors are up to 120% and 132%.
As one of the methods to ameliorate the ray effects which are the nature of anomalous computational effects due to the discretization of the angular variable in discrete ordinates approximations, a computational program, named TWODET (TWO dimensional Discrete Element Transport), has developed in 2 dimensional cartesian coordinates system using the discrete elements method, in which the discrete angle quadratures are steered by the spatially dependent angular fluxes. The results of the TWODET calculation with K-2, L-3 discrete angular quadratures, in the problem of a centrally located, isotropically emitting flat source in an absorbing square, are shown to be more accurate than that of the DOT 4.3 calculation with S-10 full symmetry angular quadratures, in remedy of the ray effect at the edge flux distributions of the square. But the computing time of the TWODET is about 4 times more than that of the DOT 4.3. In the problem of vacuum boundaries just outside of the source region in an absorbing square, the results of the TWODET calculation are shown severely anomalous ray effects, due to the sudden discontinuity between the source and the vacuum, like as the results of the DOT 4.3 calculation. In the probelm of an external source in an absorbing square in which a highly absorbing medium is added, the results of the TWODET calculation with K-3, L-4 show a good ones like as, somewhat more than, that of the DOT 4.3 calculation with S-10.

The performance of a MIMO system with adaptive modulation (AM) and space-time coding over Ricean fading channels for perfect and imperfect channel state information (CSI) is presented. The fading gain value is partitioned into a number of regions by which the modulation is adapted according to the region the fading gain falls in. Under a target bit error rate (BER) constraint, the switching thresholds for AM are given. Based on these results, we derive the calculation formulae of the theoretical spectrum efficiency (SE) and average BER. As a result, closed-form SE expression and accurate BER expression are respectively obtained. Besides, using the approximation of complementary error function, a tightly closed-form approximation of average BER is also derived to simplify the calculation of accurate theoretical BER. Computer simulation shows that the theoretical SE and BER are in good agreement with the corresponding simulation, and the approximate BER is also close to the accurate one. The results show that the AM scheme in Ricean fading channel provides better SE than that in Rayleigh fading channel due to the direct-path propagation, and has performance degradation in SE and BER for imperfect CSI.
In the recent decade, practical of wavelet technique is being utilized in various domain of science. Particularly, engineers are interested to the wavelet solution method in the time series analysis. Fundamentally, seismic responses of structures against time history loading such as an earthquake, illustrates optimum capability of systems. In this paper, a procedure using particularly discrete Haar wavelet basis functions is introduced, to solve dynamic equation of motion. In the proposed approach, a straightforward formulation in a fluent manner is derived from the approximation of the displacements. For this purpose, Haar operational matrix is derived and applied in the dynamic analysis. It's free-scaled matrix converts differential equation of motion to the algebraic equations. It is shown that accuracy of dynamic responses relies on, access of load in the first step, before piecewise analysis added to the technique of equation solver in the last step for large scale of wavelet. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this scheme, improved formulations are extended to the linear and nonlinear structural dynamic analysis. The validity and effectiveness of the developed method is verified with three examples. The results were compared with those from the numerical methods such as Duhamel integration, Runge-Kutta and Wilson-${\theta}$ method.
This paper presents an analytic derivation of the erroneous effect when the sliding-DFT is implemented in a recursive way with the finite-bit approximation of the twiddle factors. The analysis result is obtained in a closed form equation of the noise-to-signal power ratio(NSR) employing the zero-mean white Gaussian signal as the target input of the DFT. The parameters of the wordlength used in representing the twiddle factors and the blocklength of the DFT appear in the NSR explicitly as its function variables. The derivation is based on the error dynamic equation which is derived from the recursive SDFT, and on the analytic exploration of the statistical characteristics of the approximation coefficients treating them as random variables of having spatial distributions. The analytically derived results are verified through the comparison with the data actually measured from the computer simulation experiment.

Emergent computing paradigms such as genetic algorithms have found increased use in problems in engineering design. These computational tools have been shown to be applicable in the solution of generically difficult design optimization problems characterized by nonconvexities in the design space and the presence of discrete and integer design variables. Another aspect of these computational paradigms that have been lumped under the bread subject category of soft computing, is the domain of artificial intelligence, knowledge-based expert system, and machine learning. The paper explores a machine learning paradigm referred to as teaming classifier systems to construct the high-quality global function approximations between the design variables and a response function for subsequent use in design optimization. A classifier system is a machine teaming system which learns syntactically simple string rules, called classifiers for guiding the system's performance in an arbitrary environment. The capability of a learning classifier system facilitates the adaptive selection of the optimal number of training data according to the noise and multimodality in the design space of interest. The present study used the polynomial based response surface as global function approximation tools and showed its effectiveness in the improvement on the approximation performance.
