A new relaxation algorithm based on distribution of matched errors and possibility is proposed to solve efficiently correspondence problem. This algorithm can be applied to various method, such as BMA, feature-, and region-based matching methods, by modifying its smoothness function. It consists of two stages which are transformation and iteration process. In transformation stage, the errors obtained by any matching algorithm are transformed to possibility values according to these statistical distribution. Each grade of possility is updated by some constraints which are defined as smoothness, uniqueness, and discontinuity factor in iteration stage. The discontinuity factor is used to reserve discontinuity of disparity. In conventional methods, it is difficult to find proper weights and stop condition, because only two factors, smoothness and uniqueness, have been used. However, in the proposed mthod, the more smoothing is not ocurred because of discontinuity factor. And it is efective to the various image, even if the image has a severe noise and repeating patterns. In addition, it is shown that the convergence rate and the quality of output are improved.
A one-dimensional neutronics formulation is established within the framework of the nonlinear analytic nodal method such that it can result in consistent one-dimensional models that produce the same axial information as their corresponding reference three-dimension81 models. Consistency is achieved by conserving axial interface currents as well as the planar reaction rates of the three-dimensional case. For current conservation, flux discontinuity is introduced in the solution of the two-node problem. The degree of discontinuity, named the current conservation factor, is determined such that the surface averaged axial current of the reference three-dimensional case can be retrieved from the two-node calculation involving the radially collapsed group constants and the discontinuity factor. The current conservation factors are derived from the analytic nodal method and various core configurations are analyzed to show that the errors in K-eff and power distributions can be reduced by a order of magnitude by the use of the current conservation factor with no significant computational overhead.
The intent of this study is to develop an efficient calculation method which can be used to analyze the heterogeneous time-dependent reactor problems. By using the nodal theory one can not only reduce the calculational efforts, but accurately determine the group dependent flux densities averaged over the entire homogeneous nodes. This method uses correction factors(called“discontinuity factors”) in a rigorous manner to obtain the relationship between the node-averaged flux and the surface-averaged fluxes and currents. The discontinuity factors are calculated from the node-averaged fluxes, diffusion coefficients, and the discontinuity factors of the previous time step. The test results for two benchmark problems demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the method developed for the transient application in which assembly-size nodes can be used.
The quantitative analyses and the mechanical interpretation of discontinuity planes are the most important factor for the study of strength and deformation properties of rock masses containing discontinuity planes. However, the relationship between the factors investigated in the field and the actual mechanical properties of discontinuity planes is not fully understood. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of density, length, and spacing of joints on elastic modulus of rock masses as these values vary. A new parameter which has a direct relation with the elastic modulus of discontinuity planes is also preposed in this study. The combination of finite element methods and homogenization methods has been used for the numerical analyses of a uintcell with discontinuity planes, which is generated using random-number generation methods. The elastic modulus of the discontinuity plane is found from the numerical analyses. The final results propose not only the relation between the investigation parameters of discontinuity planes and the elastic modulus of rock masses but also a new parameter, an effect area ratio having a linear relation with the elastic modulus of rock masses.

In this paper, an improved Element-Free Galerkin (EFG) method is proposed by adding enrichment function to the standard EFG approximation and a discontinuity function is implemented in constructing the shape function across the crack surface. In this method, the singularity and the discontinuity of the crack are efficiently modeled by using initial node distribution to evaluate reliable stress intensity factor, though the standard EFG method requires placing additional nodes near the crack tip. The proposed method enables the initial node distribution to be kept without any additional nodal d.o.f. and expresses the asymptotic stress field near the crack tip successfully. Numerical example verifies the improvement and the effectiveness of the method.
When elemental images are remapped to solve the depth conversion in integral imaging, the integrated image is inevitably accompanied by discontinuity. This paper analyzes the discontinuity factor caused by elemental-image remapping, to validate the reduction of the discontinuity through converging pick-up and reconstruction of the three-dimensional image in real and virtual modes simultaneously. The validity of the proposed method is quantitatively verified when compared with the conventional parallel pick-up.
This paper proposes a method to improve video quality on images that have blocking artifacts at block boundary. Block image transform coding suffers from blocking artifact that is a main cause of degrading video quality because of the quantization error of transform coefficients in quantization process. filtering and DPCM for DC components have been widely used to reduce blocking artifact. Recently, lots of works focus on the technique that minimizes block effects using discontinuity of block boundaries. In this paper, image blurring in decoding stage is improved by adding compensation factor to each transformed blocks so that discontinuity of block boundaries can be decreased. The compensation factor is applied on each block without much loss of edge components.

The methods and performance of a 3D pin-by-pin neutronics code based on the 2D/1D decoupling method are presented. The code was newly developed as an effort to achieve enhanced accuracy and high calculation performance that are sufficient for the use in practical nuclear design analyses. From the 3D diffusion-based finite difference method (FDM) formulation, decoupled planar formulations are established by treating pre-determined axial leakage as a source term. The decoupled axial problems are formulated with the radial leakage source term. To accelerate the pin-by-pin calculation, the two-level coarse mesh finite difference (CMFD) formulation, which consists of the multigroup node-wise CMFD and the two-group assembly-wise CMFD is implemented. To enhance the accuracy, both the discontinuity factor method and the super-homogenization (SPH) factor method are examined for pin-wise cross-section homogenization. The parallelization is achieved with the OpenMP package. The accuracy and performance of the pin-by-pin calculations are assessed with the VERA and APR1400 benchmark problems. It is demonstrated that pin-by-pin 2D/1D alternating calculations within the two-level 3D CMFD framework yield accurate solutions in about 30 s for the typical commercial core problems, on a parallel platform employing 32 threads.

As there are various types of discontinuities developing along with various rock types, the orientation and density of each type of discontinuities were measured to analyze the behavior of groundwater within the rock mass. Among the orientations of discontinuities, the strike was measured in azimuth and expressed as a discontinuity trajectory, and the density of discontinuities was quantified as the sum of the lengths of discontinuities developed per unit area. The overall discontinuity trajectory in the study area is predominantly in the northeast direction, the north-south and east-west directions are dominant in the igneous rock distribution area, and the east-west and northeast directions are dominant in the sedimentary rock distribution area. Among the types of discontinuities, they show discontinuity trajectories similar to the northeast direction, which is the dominant orientation of stratum boundaries, stratification, and foliation. The discontinuity density ranges from 0.1 m-1 to 1,000 m-1. The density distribution of discontinuities was expressed in the form of discontinuity contour diagrams. As a result, the crushed rock near Demiseam in the southern and southwestern part of the study area, the igneous rock area around Maryeong-myeon, the igneous rock area near Yongdam Dam in the northeast, and the igneous rock area near Unilam and Banilam in the northwest showed the highest density of discontinuities at over 100m-1., the sedimentary rock area near Maisan Mountain showed relatively low values. It suggests that the results of geophysical exploration and drilling survey data in the existing study area, as well as the geological structure and density and trajectory of discontinuities, may be important factors in the behavior of groundwater in rock mass in the future.
The purpose of this study to find out factors that affect intention of career discontinuity among dental hygienists. The data was collected from 300 dental hygienists working at dental clinics. The total of 281 copies were used for analysis. Statistical analysis was performed using PASW Statistics 18.0 at the 5% significance level. T-test, ANOVA, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analyses were applied in this analysis. The results were as follows: 1. As for intention of career discontinuity by general characteristics, there were statistically significant difference according to age, duration of employment, children, children age and monthly income (p<0.05). 2. As for intention of career discontinuity by job awareness, there were statistically significant difference according to turnover, work-life, retirement age of dental hygienist, duration of job maintenance and re-employment of dental hygienist (p<0.05). 3. As for hierarchical regression analysis of the factors affecting the intention of career discontinuity, the support from employer had most significant influence on intention of career discontinuity (p<0.05). In order to decrease the career discontinuity among dental hygienists, plans that can increase the work-environment should be implemented by improving support from employer.
