  • There are many antenna array errors. They will distort the array beam pattern and result in an increased sidelobe level. A calibration technique is proposed for correcting the antenna array errors such as mutual coupling and unequal feeder characteristics. These are modeled as a matrix representing the interaction between the radiating elements. The matrix is estimated from the measured array response vectors. The antenna array errors are corrected by modifying the beamforming weight vector. It is verified by the electromagnetic simulation and experiment that the proposed technique reduces the sidelobe level and increases the antenna gain.

  • Because CCD camera acquires the digital images without separate processing, its availabilities are increased. In this study, for CCD camera calibration DLT equation and radial or decentering distortion equation are combined and the calibration parameters are calculated using three dimensional test model. The digital images acquired by CCD camera are matched using coefficient of correlation and the three dimensional coordinates of objects are determined. Also, the potential usefulness of CCD camera in close range photogrammetry is examined.

  • This paper describes the subarray channel configuration and calibration method for airborne AESA radar antenna. AESA radar demonstrator was designed and implemented for the digital beam-forming performance test of the 12 channel subarray structure. Magnitude and phase difference can be exist between the manufactured subarray channel. In this paper, calibration method for the subarray difference error was suggested. We measured digital monopulse slope in the subarray channel and verified the channel calibration effect. To verify the subarray channel operation, digital monopulse channel was compared with analog monopulse channel performance. AESA radar demonstrator was tested in the ground far field test range. Emulated single target was generated to test the detection and tracking performance of the demonstrator with the same waveform and search pattern. We verified that the detection and tracking performance of the 12 subarray digital monopulse channel was similar with the conventional analog monopulse channel. Also, ABF(Adaptive Beam-Forming) function for the sidelobe jammer was tested and effective operation was verified.

  • A digital calibration technique based on digital-domain averaging for cyclic ADC is proposed. The proposed calibration compensates for nonlinearity of ADC due to capacitance mismatch of capacitors in 1.5-bit/stage MDAC. A 1.5-bit/stage MDAC with non-matched capacitors has symmetric residue plots with respect to the ideal residue plot. This intrinsic characteristic of residue plot of MDAC is reflected as symmetric A/D transfer functions. A corrected A/D transfer function can be acquired by averaging two transfer functions with non-linearity, which are symmetric with respect to the ideal analog-digital transfer function. In order to implement the aforementioned averaging operation of analog-digital transfer functions, a 12-bit cyclic ADC of this work defines two operational modes of 1.5-bit/stage MDAC. By operating MDAC as the first operational mode, the cyclic ADC acquires 12.5-bits output code with nonlinearity. For the same sampled input analog voltage, the cyclic ADC acquires another 12.5-bits output code with nonlinearity by operating MDAC as the second operational mode. Since analog-digital transfer functions from each of operational mode of 1.5-bits/stage MDAC are symmetric with respect to the ideal analog-digital transfer function, a corrected 12-bits output code can be acquired by averaging two non-ideal 12.5-bits codes. The proposed digital calibration and 12-bit cyclic ADC are implemented by using a $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS process in the form of full custom. The measured SNDR(ENOB) and SFDR are 65.3dB (10.6bits) and 71.7dB, respectively. INL and DNL are measured to be -0.30/-0.33LSB and -0.63/+0.56LSB, respectively.

  • A digital differential transmitter based on CMOS inverter worked up to 2.8 Gbps at the supply voltage of 1 V with a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. By calibrating the output impedance of the transmitter, the impedance matching between the transmitter output and the transmission line is achieved. The PVT variations of pre-driver are compensated by the calibration of the rising-edge delay and falling-edge delay of the pre-driver outputs. The chip fabricated with a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process, which uses the standard supply voltage of 1.8 V, gives the highest data rate of 4Gbps at the supply voltage of 1.2 V. The proposed calibration schemes improve the eye opening with the voltage margin by 200% and the timing margin by 30%, at 2.8 Gbps and 1 V.

  • Recently, research on bolometer-type uncooled infrared image sensor which is made for industrial applications has been increasing. In general, it is difficult to calibrate fixed pattern noise (FPN) of bolometer array. In this paper, average-current calibration algorithm is presented for reducing bolometer resistance offset. A resistor which is produced by standard CMOS process, on the average, has a deviation. We compensate for deviation of each resistor using average-current calibration algorithm. The proposed algorithm has been implemented by a chip which is consisted of a bolometer pixel array, average current generators, current-to-voltage converters (IVCs), a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). These bolometer-resistor array and readout circuit were designed and manufactured by $0.35{\mu}m$ standard CMOS process.

  • Radiometric calibration of optical image data is necessary to convert raw digital number (DN) value of each pixel into a physically meaningful measurement (radiance). To extract rather quantitative information regarding biophysical characteristics of the earth surface materials, radiometric calibration is often essential procedure. A sensor detects the radiation of sunlight interacted atmospheric constituents. Therefore, the amount of the energy reaching at the sensor is quite different from the initial amount reflected from the surface. To achieve the target reflectance after atmospheric correct, an initial step is to convert DN value to at-sensor radiance. A linear model, the simplest radiometric model, is applied to averaged spectral radiance for this conversion. This study purposes to analyze the sensitivity of several factors affecting on radiance for carrying out absolute radiometric calibration of panchromatic images from KOMPSAT2 launched at July, 2006. MODTRAN is used to calculate radiance at sensor and reflectance of target is measured by a portable spectro-radiometer at the same time the satellite is passing the target for the radiometric calibration. As using different contents of materials composing of atmosphere, the differences of radiance are investigated. Because the spectral sensitivity of panchromatic images of KOMPSAT2 ranges from 500 to 900 nm, the materials causing scattering in visible range are mainly considered to analyze the sensitivity. According to the verified sensitivity, direct measurement can be recommenced for absolute radiometric calibration.

  • This paper presents a single-phase energy metering chip with built-in calibration function to measure electric power quantities. The entire chip consists of an analog front end, a filter block, a computation engine, a calibration engine, and an external interface block. The key design issues are how to reduce the implementation costs of the computation engine from repeatedly used arithmetic operations and how to simplify calibration procedure and reduce calibration time. The proposed energy metering chip simplifies the computation engine using time-division multiplexed arithmetic units. It also provides a simple and fast calibration scheme by using integrated digital calibration functionality. The chip is fabricated with 0.18-μm six-layer metal CMOS process and housed in a 32-pin quad-flat no-leads (QFN) package. It operates at a clock speed of 4096 kHz and consumes 9.84 mW in 3.3 V supply.
