Metadata Management System for XML-based Digital Broadcasting (XML 기반 디지털 방송용 메타데이타 관리시스템)

  • The goal of next generation digital broadcasting is offering the interaction among consumers and providers as well as variety services. One of the important factors for this new broadcasting environment keeps the interoperability among providers and consumers since the environment is distributed. Therefore a standard metadata for digital broadcasting is required and TV-Anytime metadata is one of the metadata standards for digital broadcasting. The terminal nodes of TV-Anytime metadata are defined by using MPEG-7 metadata. MPEG-7 metadata is standard metadata for describing multimedia content. Therefore, if we use the MPEG-7 metadata for describing broadcasting content can offer multimedia search services like content-based search by the extension of metadata. The efficient management system for these metadata is important for offering the services with high Duality on real broadcasting environment TV-Anytime metadata and MPEG-7 metadata are technically defined using a single XML schema, so its instances are XML data. Currently, a lot of systemsfor managing XML data are proposed in many researchers and we can expect to adapt these systems for managing broadcasting metadata. But the methods used in these systems are not specific methods for managing broadcasting metadata because of methods for general-purpose. In this paper, we find the properties of broadcasting metadata and develop an efficient metadata management system that is based on the found properties. Since our systemis implemented on real broadcasting environment, we expect that the system is most efficient and suitable. Also our system is interoperable since we use XQuery as query language for querying broadcasting metadata.

  • The influence of digital media according to environmental change of multi-media came to have significance more than what we imagine. In accordance with high resolution of HDTV in digital media era, the cautious awareness is required for skin color by the immediate color such as replica of TV color, lighting and clothing. As for the broadcasting makeup expression technique caused by a change in broadcasting environment in the digital media era, the first, There is necessity for natural makeup technique, and for expressing the whole makeup evenly and very delicately. The makeup work gets much more delicate. For the delicate expression, more time is being required than the existing makeup time. Second, Lots of time and manpower are required for elaborate real-object processing on all the production fields such as background set, stage properties, and makeup. Third, Realistic expression is available on the screen. Importance of basic makeup is highlighted. Thus, even the skin care shop came to be prevalent. Development in only HD cosmetics is needed for foundation with fine particle in new material and with diverse colors hereafter. The video-media field is a method that is ignored a sense of distance through vehicles such as camera, picture tube, and several kinds of broadcasting machinery and equipment and that is delivered vividly to viewers through screen, unlike the stage makeup, thereby being needed the makeup technology proper for HDTV according to the changing broadcasting environment and media. The video machinery and equipment are proceeding with being gradually high-tech and precise. Thus, an expert in makeup needs to know common sense on the video machinery and equipment before makeup, and needs to make an effort according to it. And, a follow-up research can be said to be necessary on the advance in makeup method and on more diverse dedicated cosmetics along with a research on color tone proper for HDTV.

Strategy for Public Service Broadcasting News in Digital Era : Focusing on BBC 'Digital First' case (디지털 시대의 공영방송 뉴스 전략 : BBC의 'Digital First' 사례를 중심으로)

  • In the midst of the rapid changes in the digital media environment, this study try to examine the challenges of the public service broadcasting(PSB) news as a representative public sphere in a democratic society, and sought realistic alternatives through a case study of the BBC, one of the most successful digital policies of PSB in the world. The study found that the BBC's 'Digital First' strategy pursued a fundamental change in news formats, thereby simultaneously innovating on content. It was also interesting to see that the news consumers' needs for social media and video content were selectively analyzed and approached with a strategy of choice and focus. Finally, the production of customized digital content by analyzing news viewing behavior by each age group also suggests a lot to Korean PSB. I hope that the cases of this study will be reflected in the digital policies of Korean PSB.

National SFN Composition Method based on T-DMB considering Local Broadcasting Station (지역 방송국을 고려한 T-DMB기반 전국 SFN 구성 방안)

  • The broadcasting of the analog TV was terminated in 2012 and was converted into the broadcasting of the digital TV, so methods for arrival of DAB(Digital Audio Broadcasting) are planned recently. Thus, with digitization of analog broadcasting and appearance of new service, it takes effort to improve efficiency of broadcasting frequency. T-DMB which came in 2005 uses existing analog TV band and its channel is allocated inefficiently in order to avoid interference between mutual services. However, the foundation which can afresh reorganize T-DMB channel is building up because the broadcasting of the analog TV was terminated. So, this paper proposes the method for national SFN composition of T-DMB considering existing local broadcasting in order to provide better service to users as well as improve efficiency of broadcasting frequency.

Broadcasting and Communication Convergent Network Based on MPEG-21: Design and Implementation of Multimedia Service Framework

  • In this paper, we present a practical implementation of the MPEG-21 multimedia framework for broadcasting and communication convergent services. MPEG-21 standard technology was exploited to build a convergent service framework. Using this framework, a service model and several scenarios have been successfully designed and implemented. In addition, interoperability, which is the main objective of a multimedia framework, especially in a convergent environment consisting of heterogeneous networks and various types of devices, has been addressed in detail. The experimental results show that the implemented test bed provides a next-generation multimedia service; that is, universal multimedia access (UMA), meeting the requirements of a broadcasting and communication convergent environment.

  • 본 고에서는, 리턴 채널을 이용하여 단일 시나리오 상에서 다수의 시청자들 상호간에 다양한 interaction 을 제공하는 Interactive-Book 을 제안한다. 기존의 e-Book 이 단순히 전통적인 종이 재질의 책 내용을 디지털 화한 뒤 이를 PC 혹은 PDA 상에서 접할 수 있도록 한 것이라면, 디지털 방송 환경에서의 Interactive - Book 은 기존의 Text 컨텐츠와 연관 있는 동영상, 애니메이션, 나레이션 등을 함께 제공하여 독자의 흥미를 유발시키는 동시에 컨텐츠에 대한 몰입감을 증대 시킨다. 또한, Interactive-Book 은 여러 사용자 들이 시나리오 상의 서로 다른 등장인물을 선택한 뒤, 리턴 채널로 연결되는 서버와 통신하여 시나리오상에서 자신이 선택한 등장 인물의 Role Playing을 제공한다. 그리고 각각의 사용자는 다른 시청자가 선택한 등장인물의 행동에 따라 자신이 선택한 캐릭터(등장인물)의 행동에 제약을 받거나, 혹은 반대로 다른 등장 인물에게 제약을 가할 수 있다. 아울러, 본 논문에서는 Interactive-Book 컨텐츠가 디지털 방송에서 현재 방송중인 채널의 컨텐츠와 관련 있는 연동형 애플리케이션 혹은 방송 채널과는 무관한 독립형 애플리케이션으로 제공 될 수 있음을 보이고, 효율적인 컨텐츠 개발, 수정, 제공을 위한 Interactive-Book 애플리케이션 개념 정립, 구조설계와 더불어 Xlet 을 이용한 애플리케이션 구현 방법에 대하여 논할 것이다.

  • In this paper, the changes of broadcasting loudness before and after are measured for the major broadcasting channels according to the amendment of broadcasting law and enforcement of digital television broadcasting loudness technology standards. Before the implementation of digital television broadcasting loudness technology standards. all the channels to be measured were broadcast at a higher volume level than the technical standards. However, after the implementation, most of the channels to be measured were maintained at a loudness level suitable for the technical standards. However, some programs are inadequate to meet technical standards, requiring corrective action, and the need for additional research to improve the measurement method.

Evaluation of the Interference from the Digital Broadcasting Satellite Networks into the Analogue Networks (디지틀 방소위성망이 아날로그 방송위성망으로 미치는 간섭량 평가)

  • The interference evaluation methods and criteria between the analogue TV/FM signals for BSS(Broadcasting Satellite Service) plans and the associated feeder link plans were established in WARC(World Administrative Radio Conference)-77 and 88. However, it should be applied the different interference evaluation methods and criteria of the digital TV signals from those of the analogue TV/FM signals. In this paper, the interference evaluation methods and criteria between the digital TV signals and the analogue TV/FM signals were analyzed. And also, the effects of the interference from the digital signals for Koreasat-1 into the analogue TV/FM signals for Japanese broadcasting satellite were evaluated. The amounts of EIRP reduction in the transmitting space stations were calculated to meet the interference criteria. The results showed that the digital BSS networks including Koreasat-1 would share the limited resources with the analogue BSS networks.

The author assumed that the perceived usability and perceived availability, social influence of technology acceptance model(TAM) are likely to affect the technological acceptance of broadcasting digital switchover.   • TV broadcasting platform is evolving to the digital-TV, which is supporting data broadcasting service. Although the data broadcasting services (i.e., games, wether information, stock trading service) provide rich entertainment to viewers, they make the operation manners of digital-TV so complex that some viewers feel difficulty in using their TV sets. The paper tackles the problem by devising a method for constructing viewer-specific EPG configurations based on the viewers' ability of handling IT devices. The paper also propose an environment (e.g., EPG configuration transmitting method, EPG structure) that implements dynamically an EPG configuration based on the viewer's choice of EPG configuration.
