  • This study investigates Japanese-made Chinese Characters in JIS X 0212-1990(Code of the Su n.0, pplementary Japanese Graphic Character Set for Information Interchange). As a results of detailed investigation, it is found that the number of Japanese-made Chinese Characters in su n.0, pplementary set reaches to 69 characters. Among them, 29 characters are not listed even in the best known chinese character dictionary [대한화사전]. 30 characters are found in the chinese character dictionaries published in Korea, while 39 characters are not found in any of those dictionaries. The distinctive characteristic of Japanese-made Chinese characters is that those chinese characters are made in order to name the things, such as fishes, birds, trees, which do not have Chinese-made Chinese Characters.

  • This paper presents a detailed theoretical analysis and performance assessment of the capacitor voltage balancing strategies for staircase modulated modular multilevel converters (MMC) in terms of the algorithm structures, voltage balancing effect, and switching frequency. A constant-frequency redundancy selection (CFRS) method with minimal switching loss is proposed and the function realization of specific modules of the algorithm is given. This method is simple and efficient in both switching frequency and regulation capacity. Laboratory results show very good agreement with the theoretical analysis and numerical simulations.

  • This study had a aim to present a detailed investigation of the difference between the preoccupied and occupied space in the apartment house. In this connection, this study was to analyse the space configuration of the residential space with and without furniture for 3LDK plan in the apartment housing by the comparative method. The space configuration analysis which represents results a numeral and graphical ways is based on the relation between the space and the social changes. The results of this study were as follows; There were a various width of change of the integration value which represented the space configure between the residential space with and without furniture according to the sample plans. It means that the residential space redefine by residence, though the architect design the perfect plan to be considered user.

  • We introduce a novel high-level security metrics objective taxonomization model for software- intensive systems. The model systematizes and organizes security metrics development activities. It focuses on the security level and security performance of technical systems while taking into account the alignment of metrics objectives with different business and other management goals. The model emphasizes the roles of security-enforcing mechanisms, the overall security quality of the system under investigation, and secure system lifecycle, project and business management. Security correctness, effectiveness and efficiency are seen as the fundamental measurement objectives, determining the directions for more detailed security metrics development. Integration of the proposed model with riskdriven security metrics development approaches is also discussed.

  • This paper investigates and selects the areas that need to be improved in R&D and production management of small and medium size companies. The study on the capability of R&D and production management shows that the areas for evaluating of the R&D and production management levels are composed of 8 elements : R&D resource, R&D support and experience, long-term operations strategy, intermediate range planning, short-term planning, subcontractor management, logistics and inventory management, and quality management. The investigation of the gap between the importance of the areas and the capability of SMEs shows that the most important things are to consolidate supply chain, to improve product and process competitiveness using quality improvement, and to enhance production management through sophisticated short-term planning. The detailed analysis also shows that the areas that need to be improved depend on the size and sales of the company.

  • PWM(Pluse Width Modulation) induction motor drives are being used in greater numvers through a wide variety of industrial and commercial applications. In this paper, a new speed control algorithm (hybrid algorithm) for induction motor drives that uses regular sampled PWM and harmonic elimination PWM is presented. The hybrid algorithm in implemeted on the computer to obtain solutions from the calculation equations of the width of the pulses and the firing angles for the selected harmonic elimination. this paper describes the time delay effects and the suitable compensating methods moreover, optical transmission system for driving signals is proposed and is compared with general trnasmission system. The hybrid inverter was tested with induction motor, and these test results are shown that this hybrid inverter closely approximates and exhibits many of the desirable performance characteristic distortions and eliminated the objectionable harmonics. Finally, detailed experimental investigation of the proposed hybrid scheme in presented.

  • The squeal propensity of an automotive disc brake system is studied in the theoretical and computational manner. The rotating disc is in contact with two stationary pads and the nonlinear friction is engaged on the contact surface. The friction-coupled equations of motion are derived in the finite element(FE) of the actual brake disc and pad. From the general definition of friction force, the rotation and in-plane mode effects can be included properly in the brake squeal model. The eigenvalue sensitivity analysis and the mode shape visualization at squeal frequencies are also conducted for the detailed investigation. It is found that the squeal propensity is strongly influenced by rotation effect and the in-plane mode can be involved in squeal generation.

  • Finite element buckling analysis of insulated transition flue ducts is carried out to determine the critical buckling load multipliers when subjected to axial compression for design process. Through this investigation, the results of numerical computations to examine the buckling strength for different possible duct shapes (cylinder, and circular-to-square) are presented. The load multipliers are determined through detailed buckling analysis taking into account the effects of geometrical construction and duct plate thickness which have great influence on the buckling load. Enhancement in the buckling capacity of such ducts by the addition of horizontal and vertical stiffeners is also investigated. Several models with varying dimensions and plate thicknesses are examined to obtain the linear buckling capacities against duct dimensions. The percentage improvement in the buckling capacity due to the addition of vertical stiffeners and horizontal Stiffeners is shown to be as high as three times for some cases. The study suggests that the best location of the horizontal stiffener is at 0.25 of duct depth from the bottom to achieve the maximum buckling capacity. A design equation estimating the buckling strength of geometrically perfect cylindrical-to-square shell is developed by using regression analysis accurately with approximately 4% errors.

  • Data provenance is the background knowledge that enables a piece of data to be interpreted and used correctly within context. The importance of tracking provenance is widely recognized, as witnessed by significant research in various areas including e-science, homeland security, and data warehousing and business intelligence. In order to further advance the research on data provenance, however, one must first understand the research that has been conducted to date and identify specific topics that merit further investigation. In this work, we develop a framework based on semiotics theory to assist in analyzing and comparing existing provenance research at the conceptual level. We provide a detailed review of data provenance research and compare and contrast the research based on d semiotics framework. We conclude with an identification of challenges that will drive future research in this field.
