In this study, analytical methods for designing a torque arm pin and elastomeric bushings of a conventional-type three-point-suspension gearbox of a wind turbine are investigated. The design loads for the torque arm were derived by considering the effects of the transmitted torque and self-weight of the gearbox. Based on the design loads, design methods for the torque arm pin and elastomeric bushings were introduced in the terms of material and size selection. Finally, a small-scale conventional-type gearbox was designed by applying the derived design methods. This study is an elementary and analytical study for the design of the torque arm pin and elastomeric bushings. It is necessary to verify and supplement the results further through extensive experimentation.
The three design elements of automobile occupant packaging such as pedals, steering wheel, and seat are the most important factors to design an ergonomically sound layout for improving driving comfort and performance. The aim of the study is to find out coherent characteristics of the relationships among three design elements. For this purpose, Triangular Method is suggested. We extracted properties for determining the shape, size, and location of the triangle that is composed of Accelerated Heel Point, Steering Wheel Point, and Hip Point. An experiment was conducted at a seating buck in which the design elements are freely adjustable by the subject to investigate driver's preferred arrangement of three elements. Statistical analyses revealed that there was a subtle change in the shape of triangle according to different percentiles and that the significant difference was observed only for the size of the triangle. The results will be effectively applied to design a comfortable seat packaging layout.
This research aimed for 20 latter man whose body shape of torso alters remarkably to develop nipper pattern of running type considered characteristic of body shape of 20 latter man to keep rather balanced body shape against middle age when body shape changes extremely. 1. running type nipper pattern design. Pattern of running, lining and nipper were designed by flattening surface shell. A basis line of running pattern is completed by applying reduction ratio after 3 times of modification & complement based on surface shell. Nipper pattern is designed with design line set by a plaster cast based on running pattern line. Lining pattern is designed with lining design line set by a plaster cast based on running type outside material and nipper pattern. 2. Functional evaluation of research and commercial nipper. Functional inspection through dress test was applied 5point evaluation method and the result of functional inspection on the sight of a wearer is that research nipper(running reduction ratio 15%, nipper reduction ratio 18%) averaged more 4.8point but commercial nipper averaged less 1.8point in the aspect of 20 items such as wear sensibility, motional function and external appearance aesthetic. Research running type nipper scored high in order of motional function, looks of side, back, front and whole and wear sensibility. Functional inspection in the point of view of an observer is that research nipper(running reduction ratio 15%, nipper reduction ratio 18%) averaged over 4.8point and commercial nipper averaged under 1.9point in 17 items of external appearance beauty. Research running type nipper marked high in order of looks of back, whole, front and side.
Categorical data collected based on complex sample design is not proper for the standard Pearson multinomial-based chi-squared test because the observations are not independent and identically distributed. This study investigates effects of bias of point estimator of population proportion and its variance estimator to the standard Pearson chi-squared test statistics when the sample is collected based on complex sampling scheme. This study examines the effect under two population homogeneity test. The standard Pearson test statistic can be partitioned into two parts; the first part is the weighted sum of ${\chi}^2_1$ with eigenvalues of design matrix as their weights, and the additional second part which is added due to the biases of the point estimator and its variance estimator. Our empirical analysis shows that even though the bias of point estimator is small, Pearson test statistic is very much inflated due to underestimate the variance of point estimator. In the connection of design-based variance estimator and its design matrix, the bigger the average of eigenvalues of design matrix is, the larger relative size of which the first component part to Pearson test statistic is taking.
In general, processing flow of the conventional floating-point multiplication consists of either multiplication, addition, normalization, and rounding stage of the conventional floating-point multiplier requries a high speed adder for increment, increasing the overall execution time and occuping a large amount of chip area. A floating-point multiplier performing addition and IEEE rounding in parallel is designed by using the carry select addder used in the addition stage and optimizing the operational flow based on the charcteristics of floating point multiplication operation. A hardware model for the floating point multiplier is proposed and its operational model is algebraically analyzed in this paper. The proposed floating point multiplier does not require and additional execution time nor any high spped adder for rounding operation. Thus, performance improvement and cost-effective design can be achieved by this suggested approach.
This paper details a robust and efficient algorithm for point classification with respect to a polygon in 2D real number domain. The concept of tolerance makes this algorithm robust and consistent. It enables to define‘on-boundary’ , which can be interpreted as either‘in-’or‘out-’side region, and to manage rounding errors in floating point computation. Also the tolerance is used as a measure of reliability of point classifications. The proposed algorithm is based on a ray-intersection technique known as the most efficient, in which intersections between a ray originating from a given test point and the boundary of a region are counted. An odd number of intersections indicates that the point is inside region. For practical examples the algorithm is most efficient because most edges of the polygon region are processed by simple bit operations.
To survive in the current shipbuilding industry, it is of vital importance for shipyards to have the ship components' accuracy evaluated efficiently during most of the manufacturing steps. Evaluating components' accuracy by comparing each component's point cloud data scanned by laser scanners and the ship's design data formatted in CAD cannot be processed efficiently when (1) extract components from point cloud data include irregular obstacles endogenously, or when (2) registration of the two data sets have no clear direction setting. This paper presents reformative point cloud data processing methods to solve these problems. K-d tree construction of the point cloud data fastens a neighbor searching of each point. Region growing method performed on the neighbor points of the seed point extracts the continuous part of the component, while curved surface fitting and B-spline curved line fitting at the edge of the continuous part recognize the neighbor domains of the same component divided by obstacles' shadows. The ICP (Iterative Closest Point) algorithm conducts a registration of the two sets of data after the proper registration's direction is decided by principal component analysis. By experiments conducted at the shipyard, 200 curved shell plates are extracted from the scanned point cloud data, and registrations are conducted between them and the designed CAD data using the proposed methods for an accuracy evaluation. Results show that the methods proposed in this paper support the accuracy evaluation targeted point cloud data processing efficiently in practice.
The recognition of emotionality becomes so important that it is called 'emotional consumption society'. The emotional design, which is mostly concerned about users consensus and experiences, is understood from a interactive point of view, human, and space. Today, the emotional design is a new paradigm. From this point of view, this paper, which presents patterns analysis of outdoor lighting by the emotional design, applies expression techniques of the emotional design in Analysis process of outdoor lighting patterns. Also, this paper shows examples at analysis process.
The symmetry is general geometric design principal in contemporary architecture shape. But, Symmetry sometimes easily causes unreasonable design. In some reason, two of symmetric units in the apartment, one side of unit have very reasonable plan and arrangement but opposite side unit nay not. For example, if the kitchen on right unit had right-handed arrangement, the symmetrical other would have left-handed kitchen arrangement. In addition to this, if each house unit has the same plan but different direction, each unit has different usage or affects the residents' life pattern. Nevertheless, Architects use only one unit plan to design public housing development by using symmetric operator (mirror, proper rotation, inversion center) at their option. This study suggests that using group theory and mathematical matrix rather than designer's discretion can solve this symmetry problem clearly. And, this study analysis the merits and demerits between each symmetrical pair of unit plan shapes by using mathematical point group theory and matrix.
This study presents an efficient method for robust optimal design. In order to avoid the excessive evaluations of the exact performance functions, two-point diagonal quadratic approximation method is employed for approximating them during optimization process. This approximation method is one of the two point approximation methods. Therefore, the second order sensitivity information of the approximated performance functions are calculated by an analytical method. As a result, this enables one to avoid the expensive evaluations of the exact $2^{nd}$ derivatives of the performance functions unlike the conventional robust optimal design methods based on the gradient information. Finally, in order to show the numerical performance of the proposed method, one mathematical problem and two mechanical design problems are solved and their results are compared with those of the conventional methods.
