Objectives : This study aims at analyzing the quality of medical service of the dental hygienist upon patients' satisfaction and the intention of hospital revisit in order to figure out the role of the dental hygienist to improve patients' satisfaction. Methods : Questionnaire survey was carried out to patients in dental hospital and clinics in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Total 301 sheets except for insufficient ones were analyzed and the results are as follows. Results : As for the correlation analysis between variables affecting patients' satisfaction, every variables showed significantly positive relation, and the relation between medical treatment level of the dental hygienist and patients' satisfaction had the strongest positive (+) relation (p<0.001). Oral health education satisfaction by the dental hygienist and the medical treatment satisfaction by the dental hygienist had significant influence on patients' satisfaction, a dependent variable (p<0.001). Hospital environment (p<0.000), oral health education satisfaction by the dental hygienist (p<0.05), the satisfaction of medical treatment level by the dental hygienist (p<0.05) and patients' satisfaction (p<0.001) had significant influence on the intention of hospital revisit. Conclusions : In order to improve dental medical service quality and the intention of hospital revisit, the role of the dental hygienist is important. Thus, it seems necessary to prepare specific education plan on the medical service by the dental hygienist.

(2) Job importance and education-training need of task increased most of job importance in proportion to education-training need. (3) No significantly between dental hospital hygienist and dental clinic hygienist difference of job importance and education-training need according to work place. but 'Management of Dental clinic' and 'dental health insurance' of dental hospital hygienist lower than dental clinic hygienist. (4) The results job importance compare less 3 years to more 3 years of dental hygienists were perceive significantly 'dental health education', 'Public oral health', 'dental health insurance', 'Management of Dental clinic' the other hand, education-training need was perceive significantly 'preventive dental treatment'.
The purpose of this study is that level of community members about dental hygienist's job of cognition and perception. The subjects of this survey were 500 of community members located in Gumi, Seoul, Incheon, Wonju.(response rate 92%) The results of study could be summarized as follows: 1. Women, 30 age group, officer and house keeper who had were experienced scaling higher level cognition of dental hygienist than another groups. 2. The group that had experienced oral examination, oral health consult, and the young group who had not experienced prosthodontic treatment had higher perception that dental hygienist main role is oral health care education. 3. The student who had experienced scaling had higher perception that dental hygienist's main role is oral disease prevention. 4. Over 30 age, women group who had experienced dental treatment between 6 month and 2 years had higher perception that dental hygienist main role is dental assistance At the conclusion of this investigation, We investigated that person's perception and cognition is promoted through scaling. Therefore we have to increase opportunity of oral health prevention and education role. In addition, we should notify dental hygienist with uniform, name tag and information about dental hygienist.
The purpose of this study examines the education, knowledge and behavior of radiation safety management among dental workers and compares the education, knowledge and behavior between dental hygienist group and other occupational groups. This study was conducted from November 2nd to November14th, 2019. The survey was conducted on dental workers(dental hygienists, nursing, assistants, coordinators, etc.) who worked in dental hospitals and clinics in Busan area. The tool of this study was modified and adapted to the clinical setting based on the questionnaire. Radiation safety education has 39 dental hygienists who had more education than non-dental hygienists (p=0.286). The most common types of radiation safety education were self-education which usually performed by dentistry, followed by conservative education and others. The average of radiation attitudes, knowledge and behaviors was higher in the dental hygienist group then in the non-dental hygienist group. On the item-specific behavior among employees, the question of 'the radiation should be shielded according to the menstrual cycle or pregnancy of the woman of childbearing' was significant (p<0.05). On the item-specific knowledge between occupations, the question of 'the intensity of X-rays decreases over distance' and 'the individual exposure can be measured by TLD badge or film badge' was significant (p<0.05). Taken together, these results indicate that the dental hygienist group is more concerned about radiation safety and that the dental hygienist group is receiving more radiation safety management training. However, if there is a low level of 'has experienced' in the presence or absence of safety management education, it is difficult to train radiation safety management in dentistry. Therefore, it is considered that dentists should be trained in radiation safety management periodically to pay attention to radiation safety accidents.
In 2013, dental hygienist is in its 100th year. As Dr. Fones opened two year dental hygiene training program at Bridgeport Junior College in 1913. 'Dental Hygienist', the profession that specializes in oral disease prevention and health science, was first used. Since 'Dental Hygienist' was first introduced in the States, looking back through the America's development of dental hygienist would be the basis of checking development process of the international dental hygiene system and comparing the system of each country. This study focused on the contemplation of how America's dental hygienist became professional through 'development of dental hygienist', 'development of dental hygiene education system', 'development of dental hygienist's license and related qualification system', 'Dental hygienist laws and ethics', and 'dental hygienists' role and scope'. America's dental hygienist has requirements to become professional and also dental hygienist is socially recognized as professional. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the process of American dental hygienist professionalization. Thus, references and literature were gathered and analyzed.
With these changes in the environment of dental service, dental hygienists are suggested to change their roles to cope with the changes. Hygienists are putting forth many efforts to promote smooth and efficient dental treatments, and as a practical measure. As a part to cope with such changes. Korea Dental Hygienists Association(KDHA) has prepared the system of Specialized Dental Hygienist and put the system into enforcement through an affiliated organization, Korean Academy of Dental Hygiene. The purpose of this study is to investigate the specialized nurse system in our country's medical environment and the specialized dental hygienist systems in other countries as similar cases comparable to the specialized dental hygienist system in our country and present basic data for the establishment of specialized dental hygienist system. For this study, a survey of dental specialists, such as dentists, dental hygienists and nurses, and patients, has been conducted qualitatively through person-to-person depth interview. The interview questions were related to the need for a specialized dental hygienist system, educational programs, functions and roles, and issues that must be solved for establishment of the system. Based on the interview results, the following conclusions were derived. The specialized dental hygienist system must encourage dental hygienists to possess advanced abilities in clinical practices, present systematic and developmental directions in educational programs, and stimulate specialized dental hygienists to actively work as manager and supervisor, medical health service providers, educators, and researchers. Lastly, for issues that must be solved for the establishment of the system, the duties and jobs of specialized dental hygienists must be defined more concretely, which must be acknowledged by people working in related occupations, citizens and the government. Furthermore, we need to examine the scope of duties of dental hygienists and enact laws and systems to protect the scope. These roles will lead dental hygienists to lay the foundation that allow them to make enthusiastic activities as an oral hygienist and clinician as well as show the way how to act as an educator, a researcher, a manager and an administrator.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to help form treatment relationship with patient through more effective communication by defining the relationship between dental hygienist's medical communication and outpatient's reliance satisfaction. Methods : The study researched 273 male and female patients who visited dental clinics and hospitals of Busan from March 12 to March 26, 2012 and its results are as follows. Results : 1. The linguistic communication of dental hygienist was $3.72{\pm}0.63$ and non-linguistic communication was $3.48{\pm}0.58$. 2. For the dental hygienist's reliance satisfaction, the reliance was $3.62{\pm}0.65$ and the satisfaction was $3.74{\pm}0.65$. 3. The dental hygienist's communication degree depending on general characteristic was statistically significant when the job of patient was housewife(p<0.001) and the number of dental clinic visits was more than 10 times (p<0.000). The dental hygienist's non-linguistic communication was statistically significant depending on patient's gender(p<0.000), age(p<0.002), job(p<0.001) and number of dental clinic visits (p<0.000). 4. The dental hygienist's reliance and satisfaction showed statistically significant difference depending on patient's gender(p<0.000), age(p<0.002), job(p<0.001) and number of dental clinic visits (p<0.000). 5. The dental hygienist's non-linguistic communication showed a positive correlation with reliance and satisfaction(p=0.000). Conclusions : When considering the result above, it is necessary to develop the teaching method and material to educate the communication ability of dental manpower. It is necessary to reinforce the curriculum of dental hygienics and the education of dental hygienist to perform effective, smooth communication between dental hygienists.
Objectives: This study analyzed the perception towards clinical practice education content held by dental hygiene students in dental institutions and their perceived importance of dental hygienists' clinical duties. Methods: The subjects of this study were 182 dental hygienists who were working at dental institutions in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Chungcheong areas. A survey was conducted with a self-administered questionnaire. In the questionnaire, the clinical practice contents were classified into observation, preparation, and performance, and the importance of clinical duty was measured with a 3-point scale. For the clinical practice contents and the importance of duty, descriptive statistics and chi-square test were performed, and the study results were analyzed using STATA 11.0. Results: With regard to clinical practice contents, observation was mainly performed in oral & maxillofacilal radiology, preventive dentistry, periodontal medicine and oral medicine. In primary care and infection control, practice and observation were mainly performed. In the department of orthodontics and pediatric dentistry, observation and preparation were mainly conducted, while in oral surgery, conservative dentistry observation, preparation and practice were all conducted. With regard to clinical practice contents according to the dental institution, there were statistically significant differences in the type of dental institution and the duty (p>0.05). In terms of the importance of dental hygienist's duty, infection control, toothbrushing education for each patient, removal of plaque, and patient education after surgery were considered important. Conclusions: For clinical practice of the dental hygiene department, the education contents should be standardized in accordance with the importance of the dental hygienist's duty, a protocol for operation of practice should be developed, and a method of standardization of evaluation should be sought in the future.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of oral health education conducted by a dental hygienist in order to provide some information on intensive oral health education to elementary school students. Methods : Subjects were the students of J and M elementary schools in Seoul from October 28 to November 16, 2011. Oral health education was provided by a dental hygienist, and then they took the PHP test again to verify the effect of the oral health education. Results : Concerning changes in PHP scores after the oral health education, the scores of the students dropped from 2.34 in the pretest to 1.85 in the posttest(p<.001). As to changes in PHP scores by grade after the oral health education, the third graders and sixth graders got 2.40 and 1.36, respectively. Regarding satisfaction level with the oral health education, they got 4.07 out of five points. Among the items of satisfaction with the oral health education by grade, there were significant gaps in a change of toothbrushing method(p<.001) and a change of dietary control(p<.001) by grade. Conclusions : The finding of the study showed that both the third and sixth graders had less score in the PHP test and credibility to the effectiveness of the oral health education by the dental hygienist.
Objectives : The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between humor and empowerment in clinical dental hygienist. Methods : Subjects were 374 clinical dental hygienist in Jeollabuk-do from April 20 to June 4, 2013. Data were analyzed using the statistical package SPSS WIN 12.0 for frequency, mean and standard deviation analysis, one-way ANOVA and linear regression. Results : The mean score or the clinical dental hygienist of humor was 2.55 out of 4 each of the sub-dimensions including emotional expressiveness, message sensitivity and preference of humor. Empowerment was 3.50 out of 5 and each of the sub-dimensions including meaning, competence, self-determination and impact. There was a significantly positive correlation between the sense of humor and the empowerment. Conclusions : It is necessary to develop the empowerment combined with humor sense in the curricula of dental hygiene education and leadership management in the clinical dental hygienist.
