치위생과 학생들의 임상교육성취도에 미치는 영향 (Study on the Influential Factors Regarding Achivement of Clinical Practice in Dental hygiene)

  • The purpose of this study was to serve as a basis for better student practice in dental hygiene and for determining educational direction for dental hygiene clinical education by examining what students and clinical-practice instructors thought on clinical practice and what factors gave an impact to clinical education. For attaining the purpose, an investigation was made of 449 third-grade students in the department of dental hygiene at seven educational institutes in Seoul and Kyoung-gi province. 246 instructors in charge of the clinical practice of the students at dental hospital or clinics were also examined. The findings of this study were as follows: 1. The instructors and students had different opinions on the number of trainees, training time, beginning of training, and assessment(p<0.05). The instructors thought that a trainee was appropriate for an instructor(59.8%), and that training time was not sufficient(30.8%). They considered it proper for students to start practice during the summer vacation of second year(21.5%), and responded that assessment should be done by the dentist, dental hygienist or professor in charge(44.7%). However, the students had an idea that an instructor should take charge of 2 or 3 trainees(47.4%), and that there was a lot of training time(55.7%). They considered it appropriate to start practice in the first term of second grade(l9A%), and thought the assessment should be made by the dentist and dental hygienist in charge(44.8%). 2. The students' satisfaction was clinical practice was affected(p<0.05) by their own selection of training institutes(28.1%), the absence of trainee from other colleges(29.4%), ample practice time(28.3%), implementation of student assessment once a day(45.3%), diverse practice opportunities (45.5%), and easy traffic to the training institute(32.9%). 3. The achivement of clinical practice was influenced by practice opportunities, the degree of faithful treatment performance, the frequency of student assessment, the number of trainees, traffic to training institutes, assistance in understanding theoretical knowledge of clinical practice, and assessment methods(p<0.05).

고등학생의 삶의 만족도와 구강건강실천과의 연관성 (Relationship between life satisfaction and oral health practice in high school students)

  • Objectives : The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between the life satisfaction of high school students and their oral health practice and to provide the right method of oral health maintenance. Methods : The subjects were 307 high school students in Chungcheongnam-do. A self-reported questionnaire was filled out from May 13 to 28, 2013. The questionnaire included life satisfaction and oral health practice. Data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0. Results : A frequent visit to dental clinic improved the quality of oral health in high school students by way of toothbrushing, use of dental hygiene devices, and diet control. Conclusions : It is very important to practice continuing oral health education in high school students by dental hygienists.

치과의원의 감염방지 실태 및 치위생과 학생의 B형 간염 예방현황 (Investigation of infection control in the private dental clinics and prevention of hepatitis B virus infection among the dental hygiene students)

  • Objectives: Dental personnels have high chances of exposure to various infections during many dental procedures. This study was performed to investigate the state of infection control in the private dental clinics and prevention state of hepatitis B virus infection among the dental hygiene students in Kwanju city, Korea. Methods: Questionnaires were obtained from 94 dental hygiene students who participated in dental practice in private dental clinics for more than five weeks. Results: 83.9% of dentists and 17.2% of dental hygienists routinely used the mask for treating all patients, 32.3% of dentists and 6.5% of dental hygienists routinely used the rubber gloves. The use of protective eyeware was much lower in each group. Disinfectant was used in 52.7% for sanitization of dental instruments before cleansing. The prevalence of HBsAg and anti-HBs were 3.8% and 67.1% respectively, 52.7% of dental hygiene students had history of accidental needle stick. Conclusion: Routine use of personal barrier techniques by dental personnels should be emphasized. Dental hygiene students were not properly immunized against hepatitis B virus and had high incidence of accidental needle stick. It is necessary to establish specific regulations or recommendations for cross infection control in dental practice and to performed scheduled vaccination program for hepatitis B virus for dental hygiene students.

MBTI 프로그램이 치위생과 학생들의 자아정체감에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of MBTI based Self Growth Program on Ego Identity in Dental Hygiene Students)

  • The purpose of study was to examine whether a MBTI based self growth program had any effect on improving the ego identity of dental hygiene students. The subjects in this study were first grade and second grade class A,B each 80 persons, total 160 persons. As the measuring instruments, the researcher used Ego Identity scale of Korean style developed by Park, A-Chung. This instrument was administerd twice before and after the program as a pretest and post-test. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANCOVA conducted by spss 12.0 program. The finding of study were as follows: First, there was statistically significant difference on the ego identity between the two groups. Second, there was statistically significant difference on the subjectiveness, the intentionality toward an aim(3.43), initiativeness(3.46), intimateness(3.74) between the two groups. The results of this study suggested that the MBTI based self growth program might serve the ego identity of dental hygiene students and brought inner changes to them. Therefore, the MBTI based self growth program was expected to make a great contribution to the character building of dental hygienist.

국내 치위생(학)과의 경쟁력과 유튜브 플랫폼을 이용한 학과홍보의 효용성 (Relative competitiveness of department of dental hygiene and the effectiveness of admission promotion using the YouTube platform)

  • Objectives: As the school-age population continues to decline in Korea, the consolidation and abolition of departments continues with the economic logic. This study aimed to analyze the relative competitiveness of the department of dental hygiene and to investigate the effectiveness of the YouTube platform being used to promote admission. Methods: Using the admission result data provided by the Korea council for university education, the new student competition rate and recruitment rate of the department of dental hygiene were compared with those of the departments of natural sciences and all other departments. Also, the effect of YouTube channel operation on them was analyzed. Results: The department of dental hygiene showed a slight advantage but it was not particularly the case compared to other departments of natural sciences. The promotion using YouTube did not have any significant effects. Conclusions: Considering that the school-age population will rapidly decrease in the future, more active strategies are needed.

연세대학교 치위생학과 구강위생교육실을 방문한 대상자의 구강위생관리 서비스체계에 대한 만족도 조사 (Clients Satisfaction with Oral Hygiene Care Services System Provided by the Dental Hygiene Clinics in the Department of Dental Hygiene, Yonsei University)

  • The setting of dental hygiene clinics is very important to dental hygiene education, which is the place not only to educate students but also to care clients. The purpose of this study is to provide basic research material for improvement of dental hygiene care system in dental hygiene clinics by analyzing the client satisfaction. A questionnaire survey by means of self-entry method was conducted to find out satisfaction of the client, who was visited to the dental hygiene clinics in the department of dental hygiene, Yonsei University. An analysis of frequency, one way ANOVA and T-Test were performed through SPSS 12.0K program. 1. Most clients were mainly composed of students in Wonju College of Medicine. 2. The clients visited for scaling(85.8%) and oral examination(9.73%) were much than treatment(4.42%). 3. Clients aged 21 to 25 were relatively lower in satisfaction with the facilities, system, attitude than any other ages. 4. The dental hygiene students are the lowest group in satisfaction with the facility, system, attitude than medical and nursing students. 5. The clients satisfaction with dental hygiene clinics was decreased in reverse proportion to visiting frequency. 6. Most of the clients pointed out the problems of appointment system(54.0%) and fee(23.0%), which should be improved than any other operation conditions. 7. Most of the clients were not satisfied with chair time and pain during care. 8. Most clients recognized to receive the better care service than other dental offices(81.3%). Especially, they paid attention to oral health education using phase-contrast microscope. 9. Many clients were dissatisfied with facilities of the dental hygiene clinics(71.7%). The problems of appointment system(54.0%) and chair time of dental hygiene care services(63.6%) had also inconvenienced to clients. The dental hygiene clinics in school play a crucial role in dental hygiene education to foster the student to be competent as a professional dental hygienist in the future. Therefore, well-organized dental hygiene care program based on dental hygiene process is essential. It is also required to improve the environment of dental hygiene clinics including facilities, appointment system and fee etc.

치위생과 학생들의 장애인에 대한 인식도에 관한 조사연구 (The Survey of Dental Hygiene Student's Consciousness about the Disabled)

  • 본 연구는 장애인 구강관리를 담당할 치위생과 학생들의 교육 방향성을 제시하고, 장애인에 대한 건전한 인식도를 높이고자, 전남지역에 소재한 3개 대학 치위생과 학생 538명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 장애인에 대한 태도 및 장애인 구강관리에 대한 태도를 조사한 결과 친구나 가족 중에 장애인이 있는 경우나, 장애시설에서 봉사활동 또는 구강보건활동 경험이 있는 경우는 장애인에 대해 긍정적인 태도를 보이는 것으로 조사되었고, 특히 장애인 구강보건활동 경험이 있는 경우에는 장애인 구강보건에 더욱 긍정적인 태도를 내타내었다. 이에 장애인 접촉의 기회를 늘려 장애인과의 거리감을 좁히고, 장애인 구강관리에 더욱 긍정적이고 적극적인 태도를 형성하는 것이 필요하다고 하겠으며, 뿐만 아니라 장애인 환자 진료 시 가장 문제점이 되는 의사소통의 어려움, 장애인 치료에 대한 경험부족, 장애인 치료에 대한 지식 부족 등을 해결하기 위해서는 87.5%가 교육이 필요하다 하였고 교육의 형태는 이론과 실습의 병행 교육이 필요하다고 했다. 또한 국가에서도 장애인 구강보건에 대한 체계적인 정책을 수립하여 장애인 구강건강프로그램을 개발하고 장애인 진료에 소요되는 많은 시간과 노력에 보상할 수 있는 의료보험제도개발 등이 필요하다고 사료된다.

치위생과 학생의 구직효능감과 취업스트레스의 관련성 (Relationship between job searching efficacy and employment stress in the dental hygiene students)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between job searching efficacy and employment stress in the dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 235 dental hygiene students in Gyeongnam from September to October 30, 2015. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects (5 items), employment stress (22 items) and job searching self-efficacy (27 items). Data were analyzed by SPSS 20. program. Results: The lower grade students tended to have higher education service quality. Those who were dissatisfied with major had higher schoolwork stress. Poor economic status had a relation to family stress. The employment stress has an effect on job motivation, self-esteem, job skill, and human relation skill. Conclusions: It is necessary to reduce employment stress of the dental hygiene students. That should be provide support of education environment control, opportunity of self-development on improve the self esteem and human relation skill, from freshman to broaden understanding of the majors, for the employment stress coping skill.

치위생과 재학생의 학습유형에 따른 비교과 교육에 대한 수요 비교 (A study on the demands of dental hygiene students on extracurricular programs, according to learning style)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate extracurricular program needs according to the learning styles of dental hygiene students, and to develop and organize non-subject programs that strengthen student competencies. Methods: The subjects in this study were dental hygiene students from three colleges located in Chungbuk, Chungnam, and Ulsan, respectively. The survey tools were composed of learning style, a non-subject field, and non-subject teaching and learning methods. Lastly, 313 data points were analyzed. Results: Learning styles of subjects were as follows: assimilators, divergers, convergers, and accommodators, at 44.6%, 33.0%, 16.0%, and 6.4%, respectively. Preference of the non-subject field, according to learning style, showed that accommodators were higher than divergers on startup, and the difference was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). Preference of non-subject teaching and learning methods, according to learning style, shows that both divergers and convergers prefer special lectures, while assimilators prefer tours, and convergers prefer experience/exercise. The results had achieved statistical significance (p<0.05). Conclusions: This study shows that dental hygiene students had different learning styles, and their learning methods varied depending on learning style. Therefore, a method should be identified to develop and run non-subject programs suitable for each learning style.

일부 치위생과 학생들의 자기효능감과 구강보건행동 실천의지의 연관성 (The association between oral health behavior intention and self-efficacy of dental hygiene students)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to provide basic data to develop health education program, by analyzing the relationship between the oral health behavior intention and self-efficacy in dental hygiene students. Methods : This research was based on self administrated survey conducted by 348 dental hygiene students. The survey was composed of five items of general characteristics, ten items of factor in self-efficacy and seven items of factor in oral health behavior intention. Results : According to general characteristics, students with high grades had higher oral health behavior intention(p<0.05) and students answered that the significance of oral health is very important had higher oral health behavior intention(p<0.05). The level of self-efficacy was separated by high-level(30%), medium-level(40%), and low-level (30%), and the higher self-efficacy was, the higher oral health behavior intention was. Conclusions : By improving dental hygiene student's self-efficacy, it was necessary to promote oral health behavior intention.
