Marital Conflicts and Expectations to Family Counselors' Cultural Competence Among Immigrated Women Focusing on Typology of Cultural Adaptation (문화적응 유형화를 중심으로한 국제결혼이주여성의 부부갈등과 가족상담자의 문화적 역량에 대한 기대)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate on characteristics of sociological and demographic population, marital conflicts and expectations to family counselors' cultural competence surrounding factors of cultural adaptation among immigrated women. This study conducted a survey of 236 immigrated women in Kyonggi province, Seoul metropolitan cities, Cholla and Chunchung provinces and Incheon. The results of this study are as follows: First, a relatively few marital conflicts were found, as a whole, while they had the high levels of expectation to family counselors' cultural competence. Second, immigrated women can be clustered as three different types: 'multiplicity type', 'undifferentiated type' and 'adaptation type'. Third, sociological and demographic population characteristics which were subdivided and clustered according to cultural adaptation made the significant difference between each population. Population with multiplicity type out of the above-stated three types accounted for the highest conflict rates, while population with 'adaptation' type accounted for the lowest conflict rates. Lastly, expectations to family counselors' cultural competence made the significant difference among each population. Population with multiplicity type showed the highest expectation levels on expectations to family counselors' cultural competence, while population with undifferentiated type showed the lowest levels.

Effects of Health Status and Health Behaviors on Health-related Quality of Life in Korean Adults (우리나라 성인의 건강상태 및 건강행태가 건강관련 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of health status and health behaviors on health-related quality of life in Korean adults. Methods: The study was based on the 2017 National Health and Nutrition Survey. Of the total 8,127 people, 5,780 (71.1%) participated: 2,553 (44.2%) were male and 3,227 (55.8%) were female. The variables for this study were demographic factors, disease count, subjective health status, health behaviors, and health-related quality of life (measured by the EQ-5D Index). Results: After analysis, the statistically significant factors associated with health-related quality of life were gender, age, income, education, daytime health status, number of comorbidities (6 or more) and stress. Conclusions: Seven demographic factors have been identified as having a significant impact on health-related quality of life, categorized by model, gender, age and income. Therefore, it is possible that quality of life can be improved through proactive management and by improving subjective health status and health behaviors while in considering of demographic and sociological factors by providing indicators as per gender and age.

Image Management and Luxury Goods in Korean Society: A Cultural Sociological Perspective (문화사회학적 시각에서 본 한국사회에서의 명품의 인상관리적 효과)

  • This study examines the implications of fashion in self-expression or image management among college students in Korea. Socio-demographic factors are considered in addressing following research questions: why Korean college students seek luxury goods; how they recognize the effects of using luxury goods on their image management; whether or not they have purchased counterfeit luxury goods; and why they buy counterfeit goods. In order to explain the relationship between fashion and social class, the study examines various sociological theories including Erving Goffman's dramaturgical approach. The data were drawn from 1419 students from 10 universities nationwide in 2005. Chi-square analyses yields outcomes as follows: Using luxury goods works as a class symbol that gives the users the image of higher socio-economic background; use of counterfeit luxury goods and its symbolic effects in image management do not have significant relationship with socio-economic background.

The Relationship between Subjective Health Knowledge and Environmental Exposure Reduction Behavior among the Elderly in Gongju City (공주시 노인의 주관적 건강 지식과 환경 노출 저감 행동의 관련성)

  • Objectives: In this study, the extent of environmental exposure reduction behavior among the elderly living in Gongju City was identified according to demographic and sociological characteristics of individual health behavior and environmental factors. In addition, the relationship between subjective health knowledge and environmental exposure reduction behavior among the elderly was investigated. Methods: Demographic and sociological factors, subjective health status, environmental factors, and environmental exposure reduction behavior were investigated among 120 elderly people in Gongju City. Through multiple regression analysis, variables with significant relationships with environmental exposure reduction behavior were identified (SPSS ver. 22, IBM, Armonk, NY, USA). The survey (IRB-2018-0096) was conducted over about two weeks (from Dec. 3 to 14, 2018). Results: The extent of practicing environmental exposure reduction behavior by the elderly in Gongju City was high in terms of cleaning, ventilation when cooking food, periodic outdoor activities, and ventilation when smoking. Significant variables were gender, past smoking and current non-smoking, subjective health knowledge, and subjective health status. The most influential variable was subjective health knowledge (β= .411). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between the level of subjective health knowledge and the level of objective education for health behavior related to the reduction of environmental exposure among the elderly.

Relations Between Mental Health and Physical Activities of Middle to High School Students (중고등학생의 정신건강과 신체활동과의 관련성)

  • Objective: The study analyzed degrees of participation in physical activities, demographic and sociological characteristics of middle and high school students, and the relations to mental health related factors, based on "Korea youth risk behavior web-based survey." Therefore, the study can be used as preliminary data for establishing mental health promotion plans for youth and setting contents and directions of health education. Methods: The study analyzed the data, collecting from 75,066 middle and high school students, regarding their demographic and sociological characteristics, mental health, and relations to physical activities by using SPSS Win 15.0. Results: 19.1% of the students answered they had seriously contemplated suicide during the past 12 months, and 43.2% said they are usually under enormous pressure. 55.3% answered that academic achievements and the pressure from future paths are major factors of their stress. The students showed noteworthy differences in whether they think about suicide depending on whether the students live with their father or mother. The study found that the students whose parents' levels of education are low, or their academic records are low, or economic conditions are poor are more likely to think about suicide. The students tend to think more about killing themselves if they spend more time sitting to study than being engaged in physical activities, or spend little time walking. And they are more likely to think about committing suicide if they spend little time exercising, or are not engaged in physical activities on the playground or a gym in PE classes.

Relate Factors on the Wearing Dentures Status of the Elderly in Daegu.Kyungpook Areas (대구.경북지역 노인의 의치장착실태 및 관련 요인)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the wearing dentures status of the elderly and understand the relationship between demographic sociological properties, oral health care habits, lifestyle, and whether they wears dentures or not. Methods: In a surveying of 349 elderly who lives in Daegu and Kyung-pook, following results are obtained. Results: Wearing dentures rates of the aged are 58.5%. The more the aged is female(p=0.025), elderly(p=0.000), a low education level(p=0.000), no job(p=0.006), and a solitary person(p=0.016) the higher rate they wears dentures. The more the aged brushes their teeth after each meal(p=0.029) and uses the oral health devices(p=0.000) the lower rate they wears dentures. The more the aged have dinner alone(p=0.009), do not kept up with the exercises (p=0.000), and would like to dine off a soft food(p=0.000) the higher rate they wears dentures. Conclusion: This study showed that an old people's condition of oral health care who live in Daegu Kyungpook is very serious. Therefor not only an elderly but other aged people is need of constant and organized education for taking their oral health care habits and changing their lifestyle. Because wearing dentures rates of the aged by demographic sociological properties, oral health care habits, and lifestyle is lower.

  • The purpose of this study supplies the basic data to plan the optimum mental health service that is reflected needs of the elderly people with mental illness by checking how their demographic-sociological distinctive feature and function level have an effect on their needs of mental health service by being absent situation of a study of the elderly people with mental illness. As results of analysis, the residental type, the disease period, and the decision person of admission-discharge control of demographic-sociological distinctive feature is much effect on needs of programs and also effect commonly on the needs of the health promotion program and the discharge support program. Generally, the function level of the elderly people with mental illness is favorable and the order of function level is the group activity program, the counseling program, and the resource network program.

The effect of organizational culture on job performance in dental hygienists (치과위생사의 조직문화가 치위생업무성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims to identify the impact of organizational culture on the work ability of dental hygienists and to analyze the factors that affect dental hygiene work ability. The survey was conducted from August 1 to August 30, 2022, and involved 193 dental hygienists from U and D cities. The data analysis method was conducted using the SPSS 18.0 software. The analysis revealed that age, work experience, and position were the demographic and sociological characteristics with statistically significant differences in dental hygiene work ability. Relationship-oriented culture (β=0.446), career (β=-0.439), age (β=0.358), position (β=0.280), and work-oriented culture (β=0.167) were the most influential factors in dental hygiene work performance. Therefore, it is necessary to work for an extended period to enhance dental hygiene work capabilities and to cultivate a culture focused on relationships.

A Study on Self-Esteem of Orthodontic Patients in Daegu - Focused on Daegu region - (교정치료환자의 자아존중감에 관한 연구 -대구지역을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of study was to evaluate the effects of orthodontic treatment on the self-esteem of the Patients who take orthodontic treatment. Methods: The subjects were composed of 124 Patients from selected orthodontic dental clinics in Daegu Metropolitan city to evaluate the factors in what demographic sociological character of Patients and character of orthodontic treatment affect to self-esteem. Each subject was evaluated with the scale of self-esteem developed by Cho Bo Ga and Cheon Gui Yeon(1993) and compared by classifying overall self satisfactation, social self-esteem, domestic self-esteem. Result: Results show the factors of self-esteem was high when subjects are highly educated, have high family income and have good social relationship after orthodontic treatment. Conclusion: The results of this study suggested that orthodontic treatment can affect patient's self-esteem.

An Analysis of the Impact of Suicide Prevention Policies on Elderly Suicide Rate Reduction (자살예방정책이 노인자살률 감소에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • The government has been promoting suicide prevention policies, but the elderly suicide rate has still not improved. This study focused on the role of local governments in solving suicide problems and analyzed three-year data from 2015 to 2017 at local governments level to investigate the relationship between suicide prevention policies and elderly suicide rates. Multiple regression analysis and logistic regression analysis was conducted to control social capital factors, demographic factors, and medical use factors that can affect the elderly suicide rate. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that suicide prevention ordinances were enacted and suicide prevention centers were established in areas with high suicide rates. In areas with high suicide rates, the suicide rate decreases if the elapsed period is long after the establishment of the center. From the perspective of suicide rates, it was analyzed that the local welfare support system was more affected. Accordingly, it was confirmed that the suicide prevention policy should be established in connection with the reinforcement of welfare policies
