  • Due to the rapid advancement of technologies, a growing number of innovative products with a short life-cycle have been introduced to the market. As the life-cycles of such products are shorter than those of durable goods, the demand variation during the life-cycle adds to the difficulty of inventory management. Traditional inventory planning models and techniques mostly deal with products that have long life-cycles. The assumptions on the demand pattern and subsequent solution approaches are generally, not suitable for dealing with products with short life-cycles. In this research, inventory replenishment problems based on the logistic demand model are formulated and solved to facilitate the management of products with short life-cycles. An extended Wagner- Whitin approach is used to determine the replenishment cycle, schedules and lot-sizes.

As the results of this research, Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongsangnam-do have very poor business and R&D environment to the extent that 96.3% of businesses was small business (medium business only for 3.7%) and 31% of total small & medium-cized businesses has less than 10 R&D workers. Small & medium-sized businesses which have demanded the information to KISTI account for only 0.2% in average for 3 years. The information demand types are market trend (26.8%), industrial property right (22.1%), business proposal (19.9%), item exploration (16.8%) and quality certification (8.4%). The supplied informations include scientific and technological data survey, market survey, translation and information application seminar. The business achievements from the information supply include 379 cases in technological development improvement and launch of products, 88 cases in technology certifications and 414 cases in patents and utility design application and registration. By the analysis results, the small and medium-sized businesses have difficulties in using R&D information by themselves. Thus, it's proposed to establish the science and technology information center in southeastern region and develop the information advisors specialized in local specialty industry categories. It's also proposed to expand the manpower and budget of KISTI concerning the information support for small & medium-sized businesses.

  • The bus as a feeder trip should supply equality service to the whole community. But in spite of the change of latent demand to the bus by the variety of regional structural change, the existing bus route can not supply effective feeder service. For cope with the latent demand to the bus, this study establish a concept that frame of the bus operation and management. This study tackled to evidence this fact by analyzing the bus transport problems in terms of the urban growth, and following issues were discussed: 1) the strategy for improvement of bus operation, 2) the land use control which is appropriate for the public transport network, 3) the economical range to justify the bus operation, 4) the allowance for the private transport mode. On the second part of this study, the difference on the bus operation was compared to determine the range within which the bus operation can be justified. This would provide the direction to improve the management for bus operation and fundamental information to develop the bus operation system.

  • In third world countries like Pakistan, the production of electricity has been quickly reduced in past years due to rely on the fossil fuel. According to a survey conducted in 2017, the overall electrical energy capacity was 22,797MW, since the electrical grids have gone too old, therefore the efficiency of grids, goes down to nearly 17000MW. Significant addition of fossil fuel, hydro and nuclear is 64.2%, 29% and 5.8% respectively in the total electricity production in Pakistan. In 2018, the demand crossed 20,223MW, compared to peak generation of 15,400 to 15,700MW as by the Ministry of Water and Power. Country faces a deficit of almost 4000MW to 5000MW for the duration of 2019 hot summer term. Focus on one aspect considering Demand Side Management (DSM) cannot oversea the reduction of gap between power demand and customer supply, which eventually leads to the issue of load shedding. Hence, a scheduling scheme is proposed in this paper called RPSMDSM that is based on selection of those appliances that need to be only Turned-On, on priority during peak hours consuming minimum energy. The Home Energy Management (HEM) system is integrated between consumer and utility and bidirectional flow is presented in the scheme. During peak hours of electricity, the RPSMDSM is capable to persuade less power consumption and accomplish productivity in load management. Simulations show that RPSMDSM scheme helps in scheduling the electricity loads from peak price to off-peak price hours. As a result, minimization in electricity cost as well as (Peak-to-Average Ratio) PAR are accomplished with sensible waiting time.

  • With improving computing performance, various digital platforms are being developed to enable easily utilization of high-performance computing environments. EDISON 1.0 is an online simulation platform widely used in computational science and engineering education. As the research paradigm changes, the demand for developing the EDISON 1.0 platform centered on simulation into the EDISON 2.0 platform centered on data and artificial intelligence is growing. Herein, a data framework, a core module for data-centric research on EDISON 2.0 digital platform, is proposed. The proposed data framework provides the following three functions. First, it provides a data repository suitable for the data lifecycle to increase research reproducibility. Second, it provides a new data model that can integrate, manage, search, and utilize heterogeneous data to support a data-driven interdisciplinary convergence research environment. Finally, it provides an exploratory data analysis (EDA) service and data enrichment using an AI model, both developed to strengthen data reliability and maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of research endeavors. Using the EDISON 2.0 data framework, researchers can conduct interdisciplinary convergence research using heterogeneous data and easily perform data pre-processing through the web-based UI. Further, it presents the opportunity to leverage the derived data obtained through AI technology to gain insights and create new research topics.
