One of the most common defects in reinforced concrete bridge decks is corrosion of steel reinforcing bars. This invisible defect reduces the deck stiffness and affects the bridge's serviceability. Regular monitoring of the bridge is required to detect and control this type of damage and in turn, minimize repair costs. Because the corrosion is hidden within the deck, this type of damage cannot be easily detected by visual inspection and therefore, an alternative damage detection technique is required. This research develops a non-destructive method for detecting reinforcing bar corrosion. Experimental modal analysis, as a non-destructive testing technique, and finite element (FE) model updating are used in this method. The location and size of corrosion in the reinforcing bars is predicted by creating a finite element model of bridge deck and updating the model characteristics to match the experimental results. The practicality and applicability of the proposed method were evaluated by applying the new technique to a two spans bridge for monitoring steel bar corrosion. It was shown that the proposed method can predict the location and size of reinforcing bars corrosion with reasonable accuracy.

Recently, the development of computer vision with deep learning has made object detection using images applicable to diverse fields, such as medical care, manufacturing, and transportation. The manufacturing industry is saving time and money by applying computer vision technology to detect defects or issues that may occur during the manufacturing and inspection process. Annotations of collected images and their location information are required for computer vision technology. However, manually labeling large amounts of images is time-consuming, expensive, and can vary among workers, which may affect annotation quality and cause inaccurate performance. This paper proposes a process that can automatically collect annotations and location information for images using eXplainable AI, without manual annotation. If applied to the manufacturing industry, this process is thought to save the time and cost required for image annotation collection and collect relatively high-quality annotation information.

Purpose: Recently, orbital wall fracture is common injuries in the face. Facial CT is essential for the accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment to reconstruct of the orbital wall. The objective of this study was to report the method for accurate measurement of area and shape of the bony defect in the blow-out fractures using facial CT in prior to surgery. Methods: The authors experienced 46 cases of orbital wall fractures and examined for diplopia, sensory disturbance in the area of distribution of the infraorbital nerve, and enophthalmos in the preoperation and followed 1 months after surgery, from August 2007 to May 2008. Bony defect was predicted by measuring continuous defect size from 3 mm interval facial CT. Copying from the defect model (template), we reconstructed orbital wall with resorbable sheet (Inion $CPS^{(R)}$ Inion Oy, Tampere, Finland). Results: One months after surgery using this method, 26 (100%) of the 26 patients improved in the diplopia and sensory disturbance in the area of distribution of the infraorbital nerve. Also 8 (72.7%) of the 11 patients had enophthalmos took favorable turn. Conclusion: This accurate and time-saving method is practicable for determining the location, shape and size of the bony defect. Using this method, we can reconstruct orbital wall fracture fastly and precisely.

The problem of delamination of composite tubes by impact has been acknowledged in aerospace and automobile industry. Non-destructive testing(NDT) methods in composite material structure are important to evaluate reliability of composite structure. There are many kinds of NDT methods which can detect the inside defect of the composite material such as Infrared Thermography(IRT). Infrared thermal imaging of object is different from that of a defect, in heated composite tubes with an internal defect, and then location and size of a defect can be measured by the analysis of thermal imaging pattern. In this study, Lock-in Infrared thermography detect internal defects of Impacted composite tubes by the inspection of infrared lay radiated from the surface of composite tubes.
Purpose: Squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) of the lower lip is the most common malignant tumor comprising 90% of all lip SCC. The typical picture of SCC of the lower lip is of an ulcerated lesion with raised margins. Surgery is the treatment of choice for SCC of lower lip. Depending on the location and size of the tumor, different types of flaps are used. We used new method - 'both buccal mucosa transposition flap' for the reconstruction of the near total mucosal defect of the lower lip. Methods: This 67 - year - old men presented with the crusted $1cm{\times}1cm$ sized ulceration of the lower lip that was arised 30 years ago. There were no size and color change, except the bleeding and ulceration. At first, We diagnosed the SCC through the incisinal biopsy. Then We performed the wide excision of the tumor and reconstruction of the lower lip. After the excision of the whole tumor, the defect was measured at $8cm{\times}3.5cm$. We designed the buccal mucosa transposition flap taking care to avoid the parotid duct. The flap was made in a triangular shape for the reconstruction of defected lower lip. The donor site defect can be sutured primarily. Results: A patient in this study had no postoperative complications such as necrosis, dehiscence, infection of the flap or donor site. Reconstructed lower lip is relatively close to that of the natural lip; More satisfactory aesthetic and functional results can be obtained by using this technique rather than other techniques. Conclusion: 'Both buccal mucosa transposition flap' is reliable method for the reconstruction of the large lower lip mucosal defect. The operation is simple and performed in one stage, with no postoperative complications. This technique can offer consistently good functional and esthetic outcomes after reconstruction of lower lip mucosal defect.
Purpose: The reconstruction of a soft tissue defect of the heel pad can be challenging. One vital issue is the restoration of the ability of the heel to bear the load of the body weight. Many surgeons prefer to use local flaps or free tissue transfer rather than a skin graft. In this study, we evaluated the criteria for choosing a proper flap for heel pad reconstruction. Methods: In this study, 23 cases of heel pad reconstruction were performed by using the flap technique. The etiologies of the heel defects included pressure sores, trauma, or wide excision of a malignant tumor. During the operation, the location, size and depth of the heel pad defect determined which flap was chosen. When the defect size was relatively small and the defect depth was limited to the subcutaneous layer, a local flap was used. A free flap was selected when the defect was so large and deep that almost entire heel pad had to be replaced. Results: There was only one complication of poor graft acceptance, involving partial flap necrosis. This patient experienced complete recovery after debridement of the necrotic tissue and a split thickness skin graft. None of the other transferred tissues had complications. During the follow-up period, the patients were reported satisfactory with both aesthetic and functional results. Conclusion: The heel pad reconstructive method is determined by the size and soft-tissue requirements of the defect. The proper choice of the donor flap allows to achieve satisfactory surgical outcomes in aesthetic and functional viewpoints with fewer complications.

Background: The mental V-Y advancement flap method is useful for reconstruction of lower lip defect because of its many advantages. However, it is not easy to select the optimal reconstructive method for the vermilion defect that remains after application of the mental V-Y advancement flap. In choosing the representative surgical method for vermilion mucosal reconstruction including mucosal V-Y advancement flap, buccal mucosal flap, and buccal mucosal graft. We describe an efficient technique to large lower lip defects combining mental V-Y advancement flap and buccal mucosal graft Methods: This study included 16 patients who underwent reconstructive surgery for full-thickness and large defect (> half the entire width) of the lower lip from October 2006 to September 2017. The operation was conducted using mental V-Y advancement flap with various vermilion mucosal reconstruction methods considering the location of the defect and the amount of residual tissue of the lip coloboma after excision. Results: All patients underwent mental V-Y advancement flap. In vermilion mucosal reconstruction, five patients underwent mucosal V-Y advancement flap, three underwent buccal mucosal flap, and eight underwent buccal mucosal graft. There were good aesthetic and functional results in all patients who underwent buccal mucosal graft. However, two patients who underwent mucosal V-Y advancement flap complained of oral incompetence, and all patients who underwent buccal mucosal flap had oral commissure deformity. Conclusion: Buccal mucosal graft combined with mental V-Y advancement flap can produce suitable functional and aesthetic outcomes in near total lower lip reconstruction in patient with large mucosal defect including vermilion portion.

Large-scale industrial facility structures continue to deteriorate due to the effects of operating and environmental conditions. The problems of these industrial facilities are potentially causing economic losses, environmental pollution, casualties, and national losses. Accordingly, in order to prevent disaster accidents of large structures in advance, the necessity of diagnosing structures using non-destructive inspection techniques is being highlighted. The defect occurrence, location and defect type of the structure are important parameters for predicting the remaining life of the structure, so continuous defect observation is very important. Recently, many researchers have been actively researching real-time monitoring technology to solve these problems. Structure Health Monitoring Inspection is a technology that can identify and respond to the occurrence of defects in real time, but there is a limit to check the degree of defects and the direction of growth of defects. In order to compensate for the shortcomings of these technologies, the importance of defect imaging techniques is emerging, and in order to find defects in large structures, a method of inspecting a wide range using guided ultrasonic is effective. The work presented here introduces a calculation for the shape factor for evaluation of the damaged area, as well as a variable β parameter technique to correct a damaged shape. Also, we perform research in modeling simulation and an experiment for comparison with a suggested inspection method and verify its validity. The curved structure image obtained by the advanced RAPID algorithm showed a good match between the defect area and the shape.

The ultrasonic non-destructive testing uses the directivity of the ultrasonic pulse wave which propagates in one direction. The directivity is expressed as the relationship between the propagate direction and its sound pressure. The directivity of ultrasonic wave is closely related to determination of probe arrangement, testing sensitivity, scanning pitch and defect location and characterization. The paper measured the directivity of shear wave, which reflected from artificial defect located in weld metal zone in butt welded joint similar model made of pyrex glass by using visualization method. 2 MHz and 4 MHz angle probes were used to measure the directivity of reflection wave at the artificial defect. The directivity of shear waves reflected from the defect was different according to the probe position and the shape of butt welded joint. The difference of directivity of reflection wave was existed between 2 MHz and 4 MHz angle probes. The angle of reflection wave became equal to angle of incidence as increase of the height of excess metal.
Identifying defects in textiles is a key procedure for quality control. This study attempted to create a model that detects defects by analyzing the images of the fabrics. The models used in the study were deep learning-based VGGNet and ResNet, and the defect detection performance of the two models was compared and evaluated. The accuracy of the VGGNet and the ResNet model was 0.859 and 0.893, respectively, which showed the higher accuracy of the ResNet. In addition, the region of attention of the model was derived by using the Grad-CAM algorithm, an eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) technique, to find out the location of the region that the deep learning model recognized as a defect in the fabric image. As a result, it was confirmed that the region recognized by the deep learning model as a defect in the fabric was actually defective even with the naked eyes. The results of this study are expected to reduce the time and cost incurred in the fabric production process by utilizing deep learning-based artificial intelligence in the defect detection of the textile industry.
