Photovoltaic (PV) modules are environmentally energy conversion devices to generate electricity via photovoltaic effect of semiconductors from solar energy. One of key elements in PV modules is "Backsheet," a multilayered barrier film, which determines their lifetime and energy conversion efficiency. The representative Backsheet is composed of chemically resistant poly(vinyl fluoride) (PVF) and cheap poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films used as core and skin materials, respectively. PVF film is too expensive to satisfy the market requirements to Backsheet materials with production cost as low as possible. The promising alternatives to PVF-based Backsheet are hydrocarbon Backsheets employing semi-crystalline PET films instead of PVF film. It is, however, necessary to provide improved barrier property to water vapor to the PET films, since PET films are suffering from hydrolytic decomposition. In this study, a polyurethane adhesive with reduced water vapor permeation behavior is developed via a homogeneous distribution of hydrophobic silica nanoparticles. The modified adhesive is expected to retard the hydrolysis of PET films located in the core and inner skin. To clarify the efficacy of the proposed concept, the mechanical properties and electrochemical PV performances of the Backsheet are compared with those of a Backsheet employing the polyurethane adhesive without the silica nanoparticles, after the exposure under standard temperature and humidity conditions.
This study was carried out to investigate the influence of artificial zeolite on the change of temperature, gas emission, water content and chemical properties during the composting process with the mixture of animal feces, broken bark and extruded rice hull. Artificial zeolite was added 0, 0.5, 1, 3 and 5% volume of the raw composting material, and proceeded 1.2m every day with mobile stacking escalator. Temperature was increased, and water content was decreased in the composting pile by addition of artificial zeolite. This caused to accelerate decomposition of organic matter during composting. $NH_3$ was emitted the highest at 6th day after stacking, then decreased gradually. And addition of artificial zeolite caused to decrease greatly in $NH_3$ emission from composting pile. As result of this, content of nitrogen in the compost was increased by addition of artificial zeolite. Emission of $CH_4$ was the highest at early stacking stage, and that was decreased drastically at 8th day. Emission of $CH_4$ was also decreased greatly by addition of artificial zeolite at 5th days after stacking. It may be resulted from adsorption of $CH_4$ into the molecular sieve structure of artificial zeolite and low water content by high temperature fermentation.
Fresh hairy vetch (HV) as a green manure equivalent to $240kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ were incorporated into soil at corn planting in 1997 and 1998 to clarify the effects on changes of nitrogen (N) content in soil and corn plant. The influences of HV for the N of soil and plant were compared with those of ammonium nitrate (AN) in terms of mineralization and microbial biomass. During early decomposition of HV residue, the content of $NO_3-N$ in HV plot was as much as 60-70% of that in AN plot in surface soil of 0-15 cm depth. In addition, soil microbial biomass N (SMBN) by HV residue was increased up to $10-20mg\;kg^{-1}$ more than that by AN. Some mineral N from HV seemed to be released slowly until late corn growth stage judging from high content of $NO_3-N$ in both corn stem at silking stage and soil at harvest. There were no difference of N accumulations in corn plant at silking stage between HV and AN plots in both 1997 and 1998. At harvesting stage, a total of plant N accumulation in HV plot in 1997 was 8% less than that in AN plot while in 1998 it was 19% more. It was concluded that fresh HV green manure equivalent to $240kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ was good enough to substitute the same amount with chemical N fertilizer by slow releasing of mineral N from HV residue in soil.
In this study, neodymium oxalate powders were prepared by injecting oxalic acid to the neodymium chloride solution resulted from the acid leaching solution of NdFeB magnet scrap. The effect of experimental conditions on the characteristics of neodymium oxalate powders were investigated. Neodymium oxalate was aggregated by primary particles formed by nucleation, and average size of aggregates was affected by experimental conditions. In a constant volume, increase of reactants affected the average size of aggregate formed by collision of primary particles. In a constant concentration of reactants, agitation speed decreased the size of aggregate due to breakage of particles attached on the surface of aggregate. The number of primary particles decreased with increasing reaction temperature, and the size of aggregates decreased due to the decrease of collision probability. From the results of decomposition behavior of neodymium oxalate, oxalate decomposed from $400^{\circ}C$, and neodymium oxide began to crystallize at above $620^{\circ}C$.
This paper makes an effort to compare the recently evolved soft classification method based on Linear Spectral Mixture Modeling (LSMM) with the traditional hard classification methods based on Iterative Self-Organizing Data Analysis (ISODATA) and Maximum Likelihood Classification (MLC) algorithms in order to achieve appropriate results for mapping, monitoring and preserving valuable coastal wetland ecosystems of southern India using Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS) 1C/1D LISS-III and Landsat-5 Thematic Mapper image data. ISODATA and MLC methods were attempted on these satellite image data to produce maps of 5, 10, 15 and 20 wetland classes for each of three contrast coastal wetland sites, Pitchavaram, Vedaranniyam and Rameswaram. The accuracy of the derived classes was assessed with the simplest descriptive statistic technique called overall accuracy and a discrete multivariate technique called KAPPA accuracy. ISODATA classification resulted in maps with poor accuracy compared to MLC classification that produced maps with improved accuracy. However, there was a systematic decrease in overall accuracy and KAPPA accuracy, when more number of classes was derived from IRS-1C/1D and Landsat-5 TM imagery by ISODATA and MLC. There were two principal factors for the decreased classification accuracy, namely spectral overlapping/confusion and inadequate spatial resolution of the sensors. Compared to the former, the limited instantaneous field of view (IFOV) of these sensors caused occurrence of number of mixture pixels (mixels) in the image and its effect on the classification process was a major problem to deriving accurate wetland cover types, in spite of the increasing spatial resolution of new generation Earth Observation Sensors (EOS). In order to improve the classification accuracy, a soft classification method based on Linear Spectral Mixture Modeling (LSMM) was described to calculate the spectral mixture and classify IRS-1C/1D LISS-III and Landsat-5 TM Imagery. This method considered number of reflectance end-members that form the scene spectra, followed by the determination of their nature and finally the decomposition of the spectra into their endmembers. To evaluate the LSMM areal estimates, resulted fractional end-members were compared with normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), ground truth data, as well as those estimates derived from the traditional hard classifier (MLC). The findings revealed that NDVI values and vegetation fractions were positively correlated ($r^2$= 0.96, 0.95 and 0.92 for Rameswaram, Vedaranniyam and Pitchavaram respectively) and NDVI and soil fraction values were negatively correlated ($r^2$ =0.53, 0.39 and 0.13), indicating the reliability of the sub-pixel classification. Comparing with ground truth data, the precision of LSMM for deriving moisture fraction was 92% and 96% for soil fraction. The LSMM in general would seem well suited to locating small wetland habitats which occurred as sub-pixel inclusions, and to representing continuous gradations between different habitat types.
Cultivation of Korea ginseng in newly reclaimed and paddy-converted fields has been increasing, and evaluation of organic amendment effectiveness is needed in the two soil types. Soil organisms influence organic matter decomposition, and their responses to applications of organic matter were studied. De-oiled cake and compost were applied at $20Mg\;ha^{-1}$ and $40Mg\;ha^{-1}$ in both soil types. Changes in microflora were assessed by analyzing phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA). The abundance of nematodes and microarthropods was measured. Microbial PLFA indicators for microorganisms and microarthropod abundance were greater in reclaimed upland than in paddy-converted soil. There were few differences in the microflora and fauna of reclaimed uplands, regardless of treatment. In paddy-converted soil, the abundance of Oribatida was increased by the application of compost at $20Mg\;ha^{-1}$ and was correlated with PLFA indicators of fungi. The results suggested a minimal influence of organic amendments in reclaimed upland, because the organic matter content and abundance of soil organisms are low in mineral soils. In paddy-converted soil, the effects of organic amendment differ among different soil organisms, and soil properties are important mediators of the effect.

In this study, the soil remediation by landfarming was carried out using microbial activators. Feasibility studies and reduction capacity of TPH(Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons) were investigated in order to find out how fast and eco-friendly the contaminated soil can be recovered. The lab-test confirmed not only the performance and degradation efficiency of microbial activators but also the effect of TPH reduction in the contaminated soil. The optimum growth conditions for indigenous microorganisms were identified using microbial activators. Based on the results of TPH removal, although there had been a little of difference in between natural decomposition and microbial activators until 20 days, the sample groups of microbial activators were higher than the control ones after 20 days. Microbial activators were applied to the field experiments on landfarming. Based on the results of removal rate in each floor of soil, it was found that the removal rates were 85.8 % in the upper, 84.4 % in the middle, and 66.10 % in the bottom. Considering that the reduction rate of TPH for the control group averaged 71.1%, the microbial activators might not be fully transferred into the bottom, which resulted from the piles of soil. As the piles have already reached 1 m in the field experiments, the low piles of soil under 0.6 m may enhance the treatment efficiency of TPH.

Effect of activators in flux on the printability and wettability of a solder paste was evaluated in this study. The activators in this study were dicarboxylic acids, which were oxalic acid (n = 0), malonic acid (n = 1), succinic acid (n = 2), glutaric acid (n = 3), adipic acid (n = 4), and pimelic acid (n = 5). When the solder pastes were observed with a SMT scope, solder with glutaric acid showed clean and shiny surface when it was melted. Slump ratio of the solder pastes was low when the carbon numbers of the dicarboxylic acid were 1-3. Spreadability was high when the carbon number was over 2. Zero cross time of wetting balance test was under 1 sec when the carbon number was over 3. When activator was oxalic acid or malonic acid, zero cross time was over 1 sec and maximum wetting force was low. Fluxes with the oxalic acid and malonic acid showed decomposition at the temperature close to melting point. Among the dicarboxylic acids, glutaric acid provided excellent slump, spreadability, and wettability.
MILD(Moderate or Intense Low-oxygen Dilution) combustion has attracted attention as the clean thermal energy technology due to the lower emissions of unburnt carbon and NOx. MILD combustion aims to enlarge the combustion reaction zone using the spontaneous ignition phenomenon of the reactants. In this study, the ignition delay time of CH4 according to the initial temperature of reactants and the addition of CO, H2 was investigated using a numerical approach. Ignition delay time became shorter as the increases of initial temperature and H2 addition. But, CO addition to the fuel increase the ignition delay time. In case of H2 addition to the fuel, the ignition delay time decreased because the higher fraction of HO2 promotes the decomposition of methyl radical(CH3) and produce OH radical. However, in case of CO addition to the fuel, ignition delay time inceased because a high proportion of HCO consumes H radical. There was no significant effect of HCO on the reduction of ignition delay time. Also, the increase rates of NO emissions by the addition of CO and H2 were approximately 7% and 1%, respectively. A high proportion of NCO affects the increase in NO production rate.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the expansion and withering of Salix subfragilis communities on the water quality in Namgang Dam reservoir. The distribution area of the Salix subfragilis communities was 0.12 km2 in 2003 for the first time, but it was 3.58 km2 in 2019, which has increased rapidly by about 30 times in 16 years. However, in 2013, the distribution area has decreased by 0.17 km2 due to long-term immersion in high turbidity, and self-thinning in Salix subfragilis communities. The lake characteristics of reservoir showed a combination of lake type and river type in terms of average water depth, watershed area/lake surface area ratio, water residence time, flushing rate, and stratification. From the result of analyzing long-term changes in lake water quality, COD, TP, and chlorophyll-a in Salix subfragilis communities were significantly larger than those in the three points located in the central part of reservoir. In particular, the fact that the value of chlorophyll-a showed the maximum value in winter rather than summer, unlike the trend of the three points in the Namgang Dam water quality monitoring network, is thought to have occurred internally rather than externally. It can be estimated that one cause of this deterioration of the water quality in Namgang Dam reservoir is the huge amount of nutrients generated in the decomposition process of by-products such as fallen leaves, branches and withered trees in Salix subfragilis communities.
