  • Image signal processing is applied in different areas due to diffusion of smart phone, computer, multimedia etc. However, image most is damaged by impulse noise, and the need of denoising technology for improvement of image quality is coming to the fore. The existing methods for denoising such as mean filter and median filter, but they represent poor denoising. Therefore, the removes impulse noise, this paper proposed the modified mean filter algorithm using standard deviation, and as a simulation result, the proposed method showed excellent denoising capabilities to the existing methods.

  • As the demand for various multimedia service increases the technology that utilizes image as information transfer method develops rapidly. Though average filter, median filter and weight filter etc. have been proposed to remove various noises that are added to images, the existing methods are short of noise removal and edge reservation performance. Therefore, in this paper an algorithm, in which noise is decided at the first hand, and then it is processed through modified median filter and adaptive weighted average filter, is proposed to effectively remove the complex noise that has been added to an image. And it was compared with existing methods through simulation and PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) has been used as a criterion.

  • Ship detection in synthetic aperture radar(SAR)imagery has long been an active research topic and has many applications. In this paper,we propose an efficient method for detecting ships from SAR imagery using filtering. This method exploits ship masking using a median filter that considers maximum ship sizes and detects ships from the reference image, to which a Non-Local means (NL-means) filter is applied for speckle de-noising and a differential image created from the difference between the reference image and the median filtered image. As the pixels of the ship in the SAR imagery have sufficiently higher values than the surrounding sea, the ship detection process is composed primarily of filtering based on this characteristic. The performance test for this method is validated using KOMPSAT-5 (Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-5) SAR imagery. According to the accuracy assessment, the overall accuracy of the region that does not include land is 76.79%, and user accuracy is 71.31%. It is demonstrated that the proposed detection method is suitable to detect ships in SAR imagery and enables us to detect ships more easily and efficiently.

  • Modern societies need image processing technology as mobile phones, computers and multimedia etc. are supplied, and image signal processing is now applied in many fields. However, images are damaged by impulse noise from various sources; to restore the damaged images from impulse noise standard median filter has been used as a typical method, but it makes errors at edge area lowering image quality. Therefore, in this paper average filter algorithm, in which mask is processed with multiple partition to remove impulse noise, is proposed. Simulation showed that the proposed method is superior in noise removal property to the existing ones.

  • In modern society digital equipments that are related with various hardware and software are popularized, and digital images are widely applied in the field of production and scientific research. In general, however, images are degraded by the noise in the process of transmission and storage. In this paper, to reduce the influence of mixed noises, the algorithm in which noises in the space area are classified into impulse noise and Gaussian noise and this is processed by applying weighted value, while that is processed by modified nonlinear filter is proposed. And the excellence of the proposed algorithm is judged by PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio).

  • This paper is a study on image noise reduction of modified sigma filter by image decomposition using directivity. Conventional sigma filter has been shown to be a good solution both in terms of filtering accuracy and computational complexity. However, the sigma filter does not preserve well small edges especially for high level of additive noise. In this paper, we propose here a new method using a modified sigma filter. In our proposed method the input image is first decomposed in two components that have features of horizontal, vertical and diagonal direction. Then, two components are applied HPF and LPF. By applying a conventional sigma filter separately on each of them, the output image is reconstructed from the filtered components. Added noise is removed and our proposed method preserves the edges from the image. Comparative results from experiments show that the proposed algorithm achieves higher gains, on average, 2.6 dB PSNR than the sigma filter and 0.5 dB PSNR than the modified sigma filter. When relatively high levels of noise added, the proposed algorithm shows better performance than two conventional filters.

  • The Continuous Wavelets Transform project signal f(t) to "Time-scale"plan utilizing the time varied function which called "wavelets". This Transformation permit to analyze scale time dependence of signal f(t) thus the local or global scale properties can be extracted. Moreover, the signal f(t) can be reconstructed stably by utilizing the Inverse Continuous Wavelets Transform. In this paper, the EEG signal is analyzed by wavelets coherence method and the De-noising procedure is represented.

  • Imaging device such as digital TV is being popular in a modern society based on communication technology. However, because of internal and external cause of system in the process of transmission, storage and acquisition, image is degraded by noise. Therefore, the importance of denoising technology is being increased, and a research for that is being actively made. In this paper, a weighted filter algorithm that considers different pixels of masks and estimated noise variance was proposed. in order to remove AWGN. And, PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) was used to represent the excellence of proposed algorithm.

  • This paper proposes an advanced outdoor localization algorithm of a GPS(global positioning system)-INS(inertial navigation system) integration system. In order to reduce noise from the internal INS sensors, discrete wavelet transform and variable threshold method are utilized. The UPF (unscented particle filter) combines GPS information and INS signals to implement precise outdoor localization algorithm and to reduce noise caused by the acceleration, deceleration, and unexpected slips. The conventional de-noising method is mainly carried out using a low pass filter and a high pass filter which essentially result in signal distortions. This newly proposed system utilizes the vibration information of actuator according to fluctuations of the velocity to minimize signal distortions. The UPF also resolves non-linearities of the actuator and non-normal distributions of noises. Effectiveness of the proposed algorithm has been verified through the real experiments and the results are demonstrated.

  • This paper presents a novel time-domain method for the identification of plastic rotations and stiffness parameters of single-bay frames with nonlinear plastic hinges. Each plastic hinge is modelled as a pseudo-semi-rigid connection with nonlinear hysteretic moment-curvature characteristics at an element end. Through the comparison of the identified end rotations of members that are connected together, the plastic rotation that furnishes information of the locations and plasticity degrees of plastic hinges can be identified. The force consideration of the frame members may be used to relate the stiffness parameters to the elastic rotations and the excitation. The damped-least-squares method and damped-and-weighted-least-squares method are adopted to estimate the stiffness parameters of frames. A noise-removal strategy employing a de-noising technique based on wavelet packets with a smoothing process is used to filter out the noise for the parameter estimation. The numerical examples show that the proposed method can identify the plastic rotations and the stiffness parameters using measurements with reasonable level of noise. The unknown excitation can also be estimated with acceptable accuracy. The advantages and disadvantages of both parameter estimation methods are discussed.
