This paper presents the exact solutions and closed forms for of nonlinear stability and vibration behaviors of straight and curved beams with nonlinear viscoelastic boundary conditions, for the first time. The mathematical formulations of the beam are expressed based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory with the von Karman nonlinearity to include the mid-plane stretching. The classical boundary conditions are replaced by nonlinear viscoelastic boundary conditions on both sides, that are presented by three elements (i.e., linear spring, nonlinear spring, and nonlinear damper). The nonlinear integro-differential equation of buckling problem subjected to nonlinear nonhomogeneous boundary conditions is derived and exactly solved to compute nonlinear static response and critical buckling load. The vibration problem is converted to nonlinear eigenvalue problem and solved analytically to calculate the natural frequencies and to predict the corresponding mode shapes. Parametric studies are carried out to depict the effects of nonlinear boundary conditions and amplitude of initial curvature on nonlinear static response and vibration behaviors of curved beam. Numerical results show that the nonlinear boundary conditions have significant effects on the critical buckling load, nonlinear buckling response and natural frequencies of the curved beam. The proposed model can be exploited in analysis of macrosystem (airfoil, flappers and wings) and microsystem (MEMS, nanosensor and nanoactuators).

In this study, to evaluate the possibility of using a steel spring as a displacement-dependent damping device, tensile loading and cyclic loading tests were performed. The main experimental variables were the type of steel (SAE9254 and SS275), the spring constant (700 N/mm, 1,000 N/mm, and 1,400 N/mm), and the presence or absence of heat treatment for SAE9254. As a result of the tensile test, the ratios of the measured spring constant to the design spring constant of the steel springs made with SAE9254 ranged from 1.08 to 1.13, while the ratios of the design spring constant and the measured spring constant of the steel springs made with SS275 ranged from 0.86 to 0.97. After yielding, the slope values of the load-displacement curve of the SAE9254 with/without heat treatment were about 240~251 N/mm and 92 N/mm, respectively, but the slope values of the load-displacement response of SS275 were almost zero. According to the uniaxial cyclic loading test results, all specimens were satisfied with three conditions for a displacement-dependent damping device in KDS 41 17 00 (2019): the maximum force and minimum force at zero displacement, the maximum force and minimum force at the maximum displacement, and the energy dissipation capacity. In addition, the equivalent damping ratios of steel springs made with SAE9254(non-heat treatment) and SS275 were approximately 2.8 times and 1.9 times greater, respectively, than that of steel springs made with SAE9254.
This study investigates vertical vibration control method for railway structure by using vertical vibration control device. The device consists of high stiffness polyurethane spring and friction damper recognized by National Center for Earthquake Engineering Research of USA for durability. To confirm the capacity of vertical vibration control, at first, behavior equation is established by considering correlation among the components. Then, hysteresis curve is drawed from behavior equation. By considering both dynamic behaviors and material nonlinearities, more reasonable behavior of the device can be simulated. After that, the Validity of the vibration control trend is proved by FEM(Finite Element Method).
THE RAILWAY VEHICLE IS CONSISTS OF CARBODY, BOGIE AND WHEELSETS, EACH OF COMPONENTS IS CONNECTED WITH RIGID MASS, SPRING AND DAMPER. EACH OF COMPONENTS HAS TRANSLATION MOTIONS OF LONGITUDINAL (X AXIS), LATERAL (Y AXIS) AND VERTICAL (Z AXIS) DIRECTIONS, ROTATION MOTIONS OF X, Y, Z AXIS WHICH ARE NAMED ROLLING, PITCHING AND YAWING. THE VIBRATION MODE OF RAILWAY VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO FIND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF MOTION DURING THE OPERATION ON THE TRACK BECAUSE THESE HAPPEN TO INDEPENDENCE OR DUPLICATION MOTION CAUSED BY VEHICLE, WHEEL/RAIL AND TRACK IRREGULARITY ETC. IT IS NAMED AN ABNORMAL VIBRATION THAT THE VIBRATION, WHICH WAS PASSED THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SUSPENSION, IS AFFECTED TO THE PASSENGER WITHOUT DAMPING. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES AN EXPERIENCE EVALUATION TO FIND THE CAUSE OF AN ABNORMAL VIBRATION WHICH WAS HAPPEN AT OPERATING SPEED 60KPH ZONE DURING THE MAINLINE TEST.
In this paper, sensitivity analysis of the pantograph for the high-speed Train was conducted using finite element analysis method. Dynamic interaction of catenary-pantograph model was simulated by using a commercial finite element analysis software, SAMCEF. Pantograph was assumed to be three degree of freedom mass-spring-damper model and the pre-sag of the contact and messenger wire was implemented due to gravity. The span data of the actual high-speed line and specification of pantograph for high-speed train was applied in the analysis model, respectively. The reliability of the simulation model is verified by comparing the contact force results of simulation and test. Through the simulation, mean contact force and its deviation was evaluated and then sensitivity of the pantograph was analyzed.
A high-fidelity model of a tracked vehicle traversing a flexible ground terrain with a varying profile is presented here. In this work, we employed a recursive formulation to model the track subsystem. This method yields a minimal set of coordinates and hence, computationally more efficient than conventional approaches. Also, in the vehicle subsystem, the undercarriage frame is assumed to be connected to the chassis by a revolute joint and a spring-damper unit. This increase in system mobility makes the model more realistic. To capture the vehicle-ground interaction, a Winkler-type foundation with springs-dampers is used. Simulation runs of the integrated tracked vehicle system for vibrations for four varying ground profiles are provided.
This paper investigates the optimized parameters of Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) for vibration control of high-rise structures including Soil Structure Interaction (SSI). The Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) method is employed for optimization. The TMD Mass, damping coefficient and spring stiffness are assumed as the design variables of the controller; and the objective is set as the reduction of both the maximum displacement and acceleration of the building. The time domain analysis based on Newmark method is employed to obtain the displacement, velocity and acceleration of different stories and TMD in response to 6 types of far field earthquakes. The optimized mass, frequency and damping ratio are then formulated for different soil types; and employed for the design of TMD for the 40 and 15 story buildings and 10 different earthquakes, and well results are achieved. This study leads the researchers to the better understanding and designing of TMDs as passive controllers for the mitigation of earthquake oscillations.
This is a paper intended for initial stage of vehicle modeling and design. The needs to determine a variety of vehicle suspension parameters required for initial design has been difficult and time-consuming task. In order to facilitate a concise and efficient presentation of initial vehicle design procedure, this paper uses a mathematical model and physical geometry. Vehicle model consists of dimensions, inertias and mechanical constants. These vehicle model parameters divided into several categories : basic parameters, coefficients and constants, design specification, spring and damper, bush stiffness, stabilizer bar, suspension geometry, tire, and vehicle weights of various design condition. This paper uses a vehicle design fundamental (VDF) program running under Windows 95 graphical interface. The features of VDF will be briefly outlined in this paper.

A non-linear vibration isolation system composed of a non-linear spring and a linear damper was presented in a previous study. The advantage of the proposed isolator is the simple structure of the system. When the base of the isolator is harmonically excited, the response component of the mass at the excitation frequency was approximated using three different methods: linear approximation, harmonic balance, and higher-order frequency response functions (FRFs). The method using higher-order FRFs produces significantly more accurate results compared with the other methods. The error between the exact and approximate responses does not increase monotonously with the excitation amplitude and is less than 2%.

Machine tool chatter is the self-excited vibration generated by chip thickness variation and severely degrades the quality of machined surface. The incidence of chatter is greatly affected by the dynamic characteristics of machine tool structure. Therefore, the cutting dynamics in the parallel machine tool is to be carefully studied considering the dynamic characteristics of parallel mechanism. In this paper, the vibration model of parallel machine tool is derived, in which the legs of the parallel mechanism are considered as spring-damper systems. The chatter stability charts for various machining parameters are examined with the example of the cubic parallel mechanism that is specially designed for machine tool use.
