Cochlea hair cell death is regarded to be responsible for the radiation-induced sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), which is one of the principal complications of radiotherapy (RT) for head and neck cancers. In this mini-review, we focus on the current progresses trying to unravel mechanisms of radiation-induced hair cell death and find out possible protection. P53, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathways have been proposed as pivotal in the processes leading to radiation hair cell death. Potential protectants, such as amifostine, N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and epicatechin (EC), are claimed to be effective at reducing radiation-inducedhair cell death. The RT dosage, selection and application of concurrent chemotherapy should be pre-examined in order to minimize the damage to cochlea hair cells.
Objectives : Alopecia is a physical problem. also it makes psychological damage in childhood. Alopecia may be an obstruction in the social life. We tried Oriental medical cure on this disease. Method : We used herbal medicine, acupuncture, scalp acupuncture therapy to increase the root of hair and hair. Result : After treatments, patient's scalp has the root of hair and hair in some parts. But not all parts. Conclusion : we think that Oriental medical cure is effective on Alopecia. The more study is needed.
In general, heat-based treatments are preferred to form the most natural and elastic curls. Therefore, this study measured the degree of hair damage, which has an influence on hair, in relation to the heat formation of the rods used during perms using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). To examine the influence of the heat formation rods on permanent waves, this study measured the temperature transmitted from such rods. Then, a treatment was given after cutting the hair according to the round shape. According to observation with a SEM, hair breakage was found in the portion in direct contact with the heat, and the broken surface was smooth. According to the study results, it is anticipated that there should be many studies on the rods used during perms in the consideration of their structure and importance using materials that have the property of even heat transmission.
As the importance of the beauty to pursue beauty comes to the fore, the market size of hairdressing industry including hair dyeing is getting bigger. In case of continuously applying an oxidative dyeing agent commonly used in hair salons, as hair damage is inevitable, we investigated morphological changes of hair treated with a neutral oxidative dyeing agent. In the experiment results, Between the control and the 6N-7N experimental groups, there was a significant difference in Max. modulus and Tangential modulus according to Max. load, Max. stress, Max. elongation, Break load, Break stress, Break elongation, and strain section. There were the highest values in Max. load, Max. stress, Max. elongation, Break load, Break stress and Break elongation in the control group, and there was no tendency to decrease significantly according to the treatment of the experimental group. Max. modulus and Tangential modulus according to the strain evaluation section did not show a tendency to increase or decrease constantly, although there was a difference between the control and experimental groups. This study attempts to provide basic data for the development of oxidative dyeing agent that minimizes hair damage and to establish the foundation for understanding the correlation between hair designers' oxidative dyeing agent and hair health.

Recently, there has been an increase in the cosmetologic treatments on hair in Korea. To investigate the time when morphological characteristics of human scalp hair take mature form, hairs of 0, 3, 6, 12, 24 months, and of adult scalp hair were compared. Also, the physico-chemical effects of commonly used cosmetological treatments; hair-dryed, dye coated, stained and permanent waved scalp hairs were observed by scanning electron microscopy. Two year-old hair was similar to the adult hair, and all hairs received cosmetologic treatments except for coated hair showed various degree of deformation and damage. These results suggest that routinely used cosmetologic treatments may give harmful effects on hairs. More detailed studies in large scale may be necessary.
Background: A wide range of environmental factors, such as diseases, nutritional deficiencies, ageing, hormonal imbalances, stress, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation, may affect the structure and function of the skin that covers the entire surface of the human body. In this study, we investigated roles of red ginseng oil (RGO) in enhancing skin functions, including hair growth and skin protection, using mouse models. Methods: For hair growth experiment, shaved dorsal skins of C57BL/6 mice were topically applied with vehicle, RGO, RGO's major compounds, or minoxidil for consecutive 21 days and skin tissues were examined the hair growth promoting capacity. For skin protection experiment, SKH-1 hairless mice were topically applied with vehicle or RGO twice a day for three days prior to exposure to UVC radiation at 20 kJ/cm2. Skin tissues were collected to evaluate skin protective effects of RGO. Results: Topical application of RGO to C57BL/6 mice effectively promoted hair regeneration by inducing early telogen-to-anagen transition and significantly increasing the density and bulb diameter of hair follicles. Major compounds, including linoleic acids and β-sitosterol, contributed to RGO-promoted hair growth. Treatment with RGO as well as its major components upregulated expression of hair growth-related proteins. Furthermore, in SKH-1 hairless mice, RGO had a protective effect against UVC-induced skin damage by inhibiting inflammation and apoptosis, as well as inducing cytoprotective systems. Conclusion: These data suggest that RGO may be a potent agent for improving skin health and thereby preventing and/or treating hair loss and protecting skin against UV radiation.

The effect of a water-soluble extract from natural materials on radiation-induced mutations was studied by means of TSH assay in Tradescantia 4430 stamen hair cells. Inflorescence cuttings, with or without pretreatments of natural extracts for 3 hours, were exposed to 1 Gy of gamma ray. Comparisons were made on the basis of pooled data during the peak interval between the mean pink mutation frequencies of the experimental groups. Pretreatments of FB or FB-I resulted in about two-fold increases of the pink mutation frequencies, compared to those of the control group. Synergism between certain fractions and radiation was a possible cause of the increased DNA damage. FB and FB-I had a radiosensitizing effects on the pink mutations in Tradescantia 4430 stamen hair cells (p<0.001). On the other hand, the extract PP in a proper concentration significantly reduced the pink mutation frequencies (p<0.05). The result means that PP has a protective effect on the radiation-induced cell damage.

This study aimed to understand the effects on the improvement of hair texture by producing a hair texture improvement agent with milk thistle oil, and then applying it to the damaged hair. Each sample before and after application was measured. To understand the effects on the improvement of hair texture, the tensile strength, absorbance with the use of methylene blue, and gloss were measured. In the results of measuring the tensile strength to understand the effects on the improvement of hair texture, In the results of analyzing the absorbance with the use of methylene blue, the value after application was decreased than the value before application. In the results of measuring the gloss, none of the samples showed huge differences. In the results of this study, the milk thistle oil showed the effects on the texture improvement of damaged hair.
The purpose of this study is to maintain healthy hair by treatment. Frequent permutations cause a lot of damage to the ends of the hair, and use permant wave pre- and post-processing agents step by step to protect the damaged ends of the hair. The Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract used in this study are effective for anti-bacterial, antioxidant, anti-cancer blood circulation and skin moisturizing. This extract was soaked in 1 perm paper and 2 perm papers and wound, and then the cuticle, tensile strength and wave formation rate were investigated. An average comparison analysis was conducted, and when the ginkgo leaf extract was applied to two perm paper sheets, the permanent hair tip showed the highest hair improvement effect.

Background: Diabetic sensorineural damage is a complication of the sensory neural system, resulting from long-term hyperglycemia. Red ginseng (RG) has shown efficacy for treatment of various diseases, including diabetes mellitus; however, there is little research about its benefit for treating sensorineural damage. Therefore, we aim to evaluate RG efficacy in alloxan-induced diabetic neuromast (AIDN) zebrafish. Methods: In this study, we developed and validated an AIDN zebrafish model. To assess RG effectiveness, we observed morphological changes in live neuromast zebrafish. Also, zebrafish has been observed to have an ultrastructure of hair-cell cilia under scanning electron microscopy. Thus, we recorded these physiological traits to assess hair cell function. Finally, we confirmed that RG promoted neuromast recovery via nerve growth factor signaling pathway markers. Results: First, we established an AIDN zebrafish model. Using this model, we showed via live neuromast imaging that RG fostered recovery of sensorineural damage. Damaged hair cell cilia were recovered in AIDN zebrafish. Furthermore, RG rescued damaged hair cell function through cell membrane ion balance. Conclusion: Our data suggest that RG potentially facilitates recovery in AIDN zebrafish, and its mechanism seems to be promotion of the nerve growth factor pathway through increased expression of topomyosin receptor kinase A, transient receptor potential channel vanilloid subfamily type 1, and mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphorylation.
