2차원 유동장 해석에서 영역분할법에 따른 병렬효율성 검토 (A Study on Effect of Domain-Decomposition Method on Parallel Efficiency in 2-D Flow Computations)

  • 2-D flow fields are studied by using a shared memory parallel computer with a parallel flow analysis program which uses domain decomposition method and MPI library for data exchange at overlapped interface. Especially, effects of directional domain decomposition on parallel efficiency are studied for 2-D Lid-Driven cavity flow and flow through square cavity. It is known from the present study that domain decomposition along the main flow direction gives better parallel efficiency in 1-D partitioning than along the other direction. 2-D partitioning, however, is less sensitive to flow directions and gives good parallel efficiency for most of the cases considered.

  • Human NeuNAc-9-P synthase is a two-domain protein with ability to synthesize both NeuNAc-9-P and KDN-9-P. Its mouse counterpart differs by only 20 out of 359 amino acids but does not produce KDN-9-P. By replacing the AFL domain of the human NeuNAc-9-P synthase which accommodates 12 of these differences, with the mouse AFL domain we examined its importance for the secondary KDN-9-P synthetic activity. The chimeric protein retained almost half of the ability of the human enzyme for KDN-9-P synthesis while the NeuNAc-9-P production was reduced to less than 10%. Data from the homology modeling and the effect of divalent ions and temperature on the enzyme activities suggest conformational differences between the human and mouse AFL domains that alter the shape of the cavity accommodating the substrates. Therefore, although the AFL domain itself does not define the ability of the human enzyme for KDN-9-P synthesis, it is important for both activities by aiding optimal positioning of the substrates.

  • Let R be a Noetherian domain. It is proved that $t$-dimR = 1 if and only if each (proper if R is not a valuation domain) $t$-linked overring D of R is of $t$-dimD = 1 if and only if each integrally closed $t$-linked overring of R is a Krull domain.

Molecular and Structural Characterization of the Domain 2 of Hepatitis C Virus Non-structural Protein 5A

  • Hepatitis C virus (HCV) non-structural protein 5A protein (NS5A), which consists of three functional domains, is involved in regulating viral replication, interferon resistance, and apoptosis. Recently, the three-dimensional structure of the domain 1 was determined. However, currently the molecular basis for the domains 2 and 3 of HCV NS5A is yet to be defined. Toward this end, we expressed, purified the domain 2 of the NS5A (NS5A-D2), and then performed biochemical and structural studies. The purified domain 2 was active and was able to bind NS5B and PKR, biological partners of NS5A. The results from gel filtration, CD analysis, 1D $^1H$ NMR and 2D $^1H-^{15}N$ heteronuclear single quantum correlation (HSQC) spectroscopy indicate that the domain 2 of NS5A appears to be flexible and disordered.

  • We investigate the bahivor of the gradient of solutions to the refraction equation $div(( 1+ (k - 1)_\chi D)\nabla u) = 0$ under perturbation of domain D. If $u_h$ are solutions to the refraction equation corresponding to subdomains D and $D_h$ of a domain $\Omega$ in 2 dimensional plane with the same Neumann data on $\partial\Omega$, respectively, we prove that $\left\$\mid$ \nabla(u - u_h) \right\$\mid$_{L^2(\Omega)} \leq C\sqrt{dist(D, D_h)}$ where $dist(D, D_h)$ is the Hausdorff distance between D and $D_h$. We also show that this is the best possible result.

Crystal Structure of p97 N-D1 Hexamer in Complex with p47 UBX Domain

  • The p97 adenosine triphosphatase is a key player in protein homeostasis, responsible for unfolding ubiquitylated substrates. It engages with various adaptor proteins through its N-terminal domain, with the p97-p47 complex attracting particular attention for its involvement in membrane remodeling. Although the structures of p97 in complex with the Ubiquitin regulatory X (UBX) domain from various adaptors have been reported, the stoichiometry is conflicting. Here, we report the crystal structure of the p97 N-D1 hexamer in complex with the p47 UBX domain at a resolution of 2.7 Å. The structure reveals a stoichiometry of 6:6 between the p97 N-D1 and the p47 UBX domain. These findings provide valuable insights into the binding stoichiometry of p97 N-D1 and p47 UBX domain, which are crucial for understanding the role of p97 and adaptor proteins in cellular processes such as the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway, membrane fusion, and cell cycle regulation.

  • Let T be an integral domain, M a nonzero maximal ideal of T, K = T/M, $\psi$: T \longrightarrow K the canonical map, D a proper subring of K, and R = $\psi^{-1}$(D) the pullback domain. Assume that for each $x \; \in T$, there is a $u \; \in T$ such that u is a unit in T and $ux \; \in R$, . In this paper, we show that R is a weakly Krull domain (resp., GWFD, AWFD, WFD) if and only if htM = 1, D is a field, and T is a weakly Krull domain (resp., GWFD, AWFD, WFD).

현실적 영상 필터링 방법을 위한 주파수 영역에서의 다각형 형태 필터의 모델링 (Polygon-shaped Filters in Frequency Domain for Practical Filtering of Images)

  • 본 논문에서는 영상신호를 필터링 하기 위해 필요한 현실적인 수학적 모델을 제시한다. 1차원 신호 뿐 아니라 2차원 또는 다차원 신호처리 및 분석에서 필터는 영상처리, 컴퓨터 비전, 패턴 인식 등의 다양한 분야에서 근본적이고 중요한 과정을 수행한다. 일반적인 신호처리에서 신호를 주파수 영역에서 해석할 경우 1차원 신호 영역에서의 이상적인 (저역통과) 필터는 직사각형 형태를 가지고 있듯이, 2차원 신호의 이상적인 필터는 원 형태를 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 주파수 영역에서 활용할 수 있는 실용적이고 효율적인 다각형 형태의 영상 필터 모델을 제안한다. 본 논문은 2차원 영상을 필터링 하기 위해 원형 필터를 사용하는 대신 육각형 형태의 필터를 모델링하여 적용한다. 이것은 무선 통신 시스템에서의 주파수 재사용 개념을 도입함으로서, 영상 필터링에서도 주파수 대역을 효율적으로 사용하기 위함이다. 본 논문에서 제시한 육각형태의 필터를 활용한 영상 필터링의 시뮬레이션 결과를 제시하고, 성능을 PSNR로 계산한 결과 제안한 방법이 이상적인 필터의 대안으로서 가능함을 보인다.

  • 입체공간에 대한 이용이 증가하면서 기존의 2차원 지적으로는 입체공간에 대한 정보를 관리하는데 한계가 있어 입체공간의 물리적 현황 및 사용권에 대한 정보를 등록 관리할 수 있는 3D 지적이 요구되고 있다. 이번 연구는 입체공간의 이용 현황 분석을 통해 3D 지적에 포함될 수 있는 데이터의 범위를 설정하고, 국제표준인 토지행정도메인모델(LADM)을 기반으로 3D 지적을 이해할 수 있는 개념모델을 설계함으로써 3D 지적시스템의 개발을 위한 기반을 마련하고자 한다.
