'Han of the Class' based on the Relationship between Character and Non-Character Symbols - on the Film of Bong Joon-ho - (인물 기호와 비인물 기호 관계를 바탕으로 한 '계급의 한' -봉준호 영화를 중심으로-)

  • The concept of 'Han' is a psychological characteristic formed by Koreans through long-lasting national hardships. It has deeply influenced every Korean as a form of collective unconscious and has merged with various forms of art over time. Director Bong Joon-ho's works, rich in social consciousness, symbolically visualize sensitive issues like social class, presenting harsh satire on class oppression. His movies continuously emphasize human desires, the homogeneity of good and evil, insurmountable class barriers, and moral decay caused by desires. They produce a wealth of symbols filled with layers and power dynamics. Bong Joon-ho dramatically portrays and directs various forms of symbols. The metaphorical symbols in his movies provide a unique research value for delving into the deeper meanings of the films.This study examines the theme of 'class Han' in six of Bong Joon-ho's films, exploring the 'Han culture' of Korea. It applies semiotic concepts by categorizing into character and non-character symbols for an in-depth analysis of the films. The representative works from the late 1990s to the late 2010s articulate the class layers of the 'visible' and the 'invisible' through a blend of realism and surrealism. The study analyzes Bong Joon-ho's films in the sequence of 'satire-exposure-hope', examining the culturally critical nature of 'Han culture' on class and its psychological and cultural impact on the general public.

  • The seventh year of implementing online material deposit demands a systematic collection, legal and regulatory improvements, and the establishment of a long-term strategic plan for online material collection. In this study, we aimed to propose an online material collection strategy and a long-term roadmap for preserving online resources as national intellectual and cultural heritage for future generations. To achieve this, we analyzed the status of domestic and foreign libraries, related laws and regulations, and the types and collection status of online materials. Based on this analysis, we proposed practical collection standards and methods. Ultimately, a long-term roadmap and implementation plan were suggested. The long-term development plan for online material collection established a phased, concrete implementation strategy. This includes the foundation-building phase of online material collection, followed by the expansion phase, and finally reaching the maturity phase.

Case Study on Physical Activity Guidance Experience to Maintain Balance in Adults with Cerebellar Ataxia (소뇌성 운동실조증 성인의 균형 유지를 위한 신체활동 지도 경험 사례 연구)

  • This study aims to understand positive changes in balance and gait function and difficulties in the instructor's guidance process through repetitive basic motor skill-based physical activities targeting people with cerebellar ataxia. For this purpose, five adults with cerebellar ataxia were selected as research subjects, and their three instructors participated as research participants. To collect quantitative data, the average and standard deviation were examined through pre-and post-evaluation of the research participants' physical activity classes for 16 weeks. The mean and standard deviation of the collected data were calculated using the Shapiro-Wilk test in the SAS 9.1 statistical program (p<.05). As a qualitative data collection method, the cultural description method of developmental research(DSR) proposed by Spradley(1980) was adopted, and the collected data were analyzed inductively according to the analysis method of Mertens(1990). Through this, 31 concepts, 10 subcategories, and 4 categories were discovered. As a result, the difficulties experienced by the research participants included insufficient guidance environment, dissatisfaction of consumers, difficulty in guidance, and non-cooperation of colleagues. Based on these research results, it was found that institutional, legal, and policy support should be provided not only to public institutions but also to private physical activity institutions that can use vouchers in order to maintain the balance of adults with cerebellar ataxia as well as to guide their physical activities.

  • This study shows the effectiveness of mental health by applying the Light of the Mind program to 45 nursing students who applied for the Human Relations class at JS University and showed 90% attendance once a week for a total of 10 sessions and 60 minutes per session. The 'Light of the Heart' program was carried out in the Simsang-Poetry therapy stage and technique, an integrated art and cultural therapy that recognizes the 'light' representing 'inner positivity'. As a result of phenomenological and qualitative analysis of the participants' descriptions, the categories of source, healing power, positive perception, self-realization, positive emotion, potential, and self-awareness were shown, and there was a statistically significant difference in the experimental group compared to the control group when analyzing before and after the resilience scale. This study is significant in that it improved the mental health of nursing students through human relations classes. It is necessary to develop and carry out various programs for the promotion of human relations and mental health of college students, and it will be helpful to the mental health of modern people by expanding this program to the general public.

Assessment of wetland ecosystem services for ecological management in the border area of the Han River Estuary (한강하구 접경지역 습지 생태계 서비스 평가를 통한 생태적 관리 방안 분석)

  • The conservation of wetland ecosystems has a significant role in climate change. Notably, the Han River Protected Area, including the Siam-ri wetland and Janghang wetland, provides high biodiversity value. Thus, it is necessary to comprehensively evaluate the function and value of wetland ecosystems. This study evaluated the ecosystem services of Siam-ri and Janghang Wetlands located in the Han River Protected Area using the Rapid Assessment Wetland Ecosystem Services approach, a function-oriented ecosystem analysis. The results were calculated using the Ecosystem Services Index formula to analyze wetland ecosystem services. We also assessed the key ecosystem services based on a focus group interview. We identified that the supporting and cultural services index scores were relatively high in the study area. The results can provide helpful information for sustainable wetland conservation, conservation planning as primary data, and raising awareness for the Han River Protected Area.

  • With the rapid increase of multicultural families in South Korea due to international marriages and the influx of foreign workers, the number of children from these families enlisting in the military is also rising. It is projected that by 2030, over 10,000 recruits from multicultural backgrounds will join the military annually. This influx can help mitigate the issue of decreasing military resources due to low birth rates and enhance the cultural diversity within the military. However, the lack of multicultural awareness and the presence of discrimination in the military can hinder the well-being of these multicultural soldiers. This study aims to analyze the multicultural phenomenon in the Korean military and explore development strategies to ensure the stable service and healthy military culture for multicultural soldiers. The theoretical background of multiculturalism and diversity in the military is examined, along with the analysis of multicultural military operations in other countries. Management strategies for multicultural soldiers, including leadership and organizational culture innovation, multicultural education and awareness programs, and the establishment of tailored support systems, are proposed. Furthermore, policy recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of multicultural policies in the Korean military are presented. Supporting the successful military service of multicultural soldiers will contribute to the enhancement of military combat power and the acceptance of multiculturalism in Korean society.

Design of the Former National Tax Service Building Site on Sejong-daero as a Historic Urban Landscape (역사도시경관으로서 세종대로 (구)국세청 별관 부지 설계)

  • The Seoul metropolitan government announced an open design competition for reconfiguring the annex building of the National Tax Service Building site on Sejong-daero as a space for citizens to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation. The site, built during the Japanese colonial period, has been in use ever since. This study, as one of the entries for the competition, described the strategy and design contents by drawing the concept and main points of the design through an analysis of the historical context of the site. As the guidelines instructed to consider the value of the Sejong-daero area and the cultural heritage through a comprehensive analysis, this study specified the site as a place connecting the past, present and future. Since the foundation of the Joseon dynasty, the Korean Empire and the Japanese colonial period, Sejong-daero has been a main site for important events and activities along with the change of the city structure. Jungdong, to the rear of the site, was a place for adopting new culture during the beginnings of modern Korea, while adjacent places like Duksugung, the Anglican church, and the Seoul City Council building have also been historic urban landscapes of the historical layers of time as the city has changed. When Gojong announced the Korean Empire, the city structure was remodeled with this site as the center along with Sogong-ro, Wongudan and so forth. In this study, public interest stated in the guidelines was focused and the relevance of the road and the plaza was considered from the view of an historic urban landscape by a comprehensive analysis with Sejong-daero as the center. The restoration of public interest was to be drawn as the concept of the object site by considering the current status and the change around the site and Jungdong at the rear. Returning the site to the public is ambiguous with the relevance of the restoration of public interest and as the symbol of the idea of the Korean Empire by Gojong's announcement. The object site, having the characteristic of being returned to the public, must ensure public interest and therefore the design strategy has been established with the keywords of openness, connection and void. As a result of a review of the alternatives, a plan for a square has an 8% slope, just as the original site does, and provides ramps for convenient access for all, including the disabled and the elderly, and is connected to the grounds adjacent. No construction is allowed at the terrace square of the Anglican church level and the main square connected to the pedestrian street, so a variety of modern city utilization can be done. The value of the site at which this design is aimed shall be given back to the public with the concepts of modern democracy, independence, and the vision of Gojong by reinterpreting the space from a modern viewpoint. This study focused on the processes of establishing a main concept and strategy rather than the content of the design details, and the suggestion is meaningful in that the design for the object site with historic backgrounds and the layers of time can continue to be grown.

  • Design takes concrete form from the things which are not yet exist to the molded reality. Creation of value which is accompanied by the rational value could be possible only through the searching examination of the basic concept. All designs are under circumstances because the results and the character of the problems are different under the given conditions and circumstances which are the characteristic of the design. The aim of this study is searching for the differential design conce- pt which is the most appropriate and reasonable in the basic design process in which the phase of the analysis, synthesis and evaluation of the problem. First of all the pursuit value of the times and the change of the view point of value of the product design. How the pursuit value of times were searched and analyzed. Analyze the successful product design realization of the typical trend of the modern design which are 3-2. function-focused design, 3-3. emotion-centered design, 3-4. image communicative design through the metaphor, 3-5. environmental affinity design. On the base of the case analysis how to apply the differential design concept which is coming as a trend in the future society which are sustainable developing society was examined closely. The outcome through the analysis of the success cases are as follows, \circled1 the value of the spirit of the times should be emphasized as the design image, \circled2 environmental appropriateness should be taken into consideration as the first primary factor, \circled3 the realization of value of the fulfillment of differential consumer's needs, \circled4 lead to prolong the life cycle of the product, \circled5 promote the sustaining growth of enterprise, \circled6 user-centered product value should be the first consideration. \circled7 It is necessary to overcome the cultural andinguistic barriers and to reflect the metaphor which people remember well. \circled8 The application of human's true character should be decided beforehand. It is the commonness of values of times and customs. \circled9 The differentiated design concept which meets our mental satisfaction, not material one, will be required.   • The purpose of this study was to investigate the clustering and Big Five Personality domains in discriminating groups by level of school-related adjustment, as experienced by Social Sims game users. Social Games are based on web that has simple rules to play in fictional time and space background. This paper is to analyze the relationships between social networks and user behaviors through the social games . In general, characteristics of social games are simple, fun and easy to play, popular to the public, and based on personal connections in reality. These features of social games make themselves different from video games with one player or MMORPG with many unspecific players. Especially Social Game show a noticeable characteristic related to social learning. The object of this research is to provide a possibility that game that its social perspective can be strengthened in social game environment and analyze whether it actually influences on problem solving of real life problems, therefore suggesting its direction of alternative play means and positive simulation game. Data was collected by administering 4 questionnaires (the short version of BFI, Satisfaction with life, Career Decision-.Making Self-.Efficacy, Depression) to the participants who were 20 people in Seoul and Daejeon. For the purposes of the data analysis, both Stepwise Discriminant analysis and Cluster analysis was employed. Neuroticism, Openness, Conscientiousness within the Big Five Personality domains were seen to be significant variables when it came to discriminating the groups. These findings indicated that the short version of the BFI may be useful in understanding for game user behaviors When it comes to cultural research, digital game takes up a significant role. We can see that from the fact that game, which has only been considered as a leisure activity or commercial means, is being actively research for its methodological, social role and function. Among digital game's several meanings, one of the most noticeable ones is the research on its critical, social participating function. According to Jame Paul gee, the most important merit of game is 'projected identity'. This means that experiences from various perspectives is possible.[1] In his recent autobiography , he described gamer as an active problem solver. In addition, Gonzalo Francesca also suggested an alternative game developing method through 'game that conveys critical messages by strengthening critical reasons'. [2] They all provided evidences showing game can be a strong academic tool. Not only does a genre called social game exist in the field of media and Social Network Game, but there are also some efforts to positively evaluate its value Through these kinds of researches, we can study how game can give positive influence along with the change in its general perception, which would eventually lead to spreading healthy game culture and enabling fresh life experience. This would better bring out the educative side of the game and become a social communicative tool. The object of this game is to provide a possibility that the social aspect can be strengthened within the game environment and analyze whether it actually influences the problem solving of real life problems. Therefore suggesting it's direction of alternative play means positive game simulation.

Topic Continuity in Korea Narrative (한국 설화문에서의 화제표현의 연속성)

  • Language has a social function to communicate information. Linguists have gradually paid their attention to the function of language since the nineteen sixties, especially to the relationship of form, meaning and the function. The relationship could be more clearly grasped through disciyrse-based analysis than through sentence-based analysis. Many researches were centered on the discourse functional notion of topic. In the early 1970's the subject was defined as the grammatiocalized topic the topic as a discrete single constituent of the clause. In the late 1970's several lingusts including Givon suggerted that the topic was not an atomic, disctete entity, and that the clause could have more than one topic. The purpose of the present study is, following Givon, to study grammatical coding devices of topic and to measure the relative topic continuity/discontinuity of participant argu, ents in Korean narratives. By so doing, I would like to shed some light on effective ways of communicating information. The grammatical coding devices analyzed are the following eight structures: zero-anaphora, personal pronous, demonstrative pronouns, names, noun phrases following demonstratives, noun phrases following possessives, definite noun phrases and indefinite referentials. The narrative studied for the count was taken from the KoreanCIA chief's Testiomny:Revolution and Idol by Hyung Wook Kim. It was chosen because it was assumed that Kim's purpose in the novel was to tell a true story, which would not distort the natural use of language for literary effect. The measures taken in the analysis wre those of 'lookback', 'persistence', ambiguity'. The first of these, 'lookback', is a measure of the size of gap between the previous occurrence of a referent and its current occurence in the clause. The meausure of persistence, which is a measure of the speaker's topocal intent, reflects the topic's importance in the discourse. The third measure is a measure of ambiguity. This is necessary for assessing the disruptive effects that other topics within five previous clauses may have on topic identification. The more other topics are present within five previous clauses, the more difficult is the task of correct identification of a topic. The results of the present study show that the humanness of entities is the most powerful factior in topic continutiy in narrative discourse. The semantic roles of human arguments in narrative discourse tend to be agents or experiences. Since agents and experiences have high topicality in discourse, human entities clearly become clausal or discoursal topics. The results also show that the grammatical devices signal varying degrees of topic continuity discontinuity in continuous discourse. The more continuous a topic argument is, the less it is coded. For example, personal pronouns have the most continutiy and indefinite referentials have the least continutiy. The study strongly shows that topic continuity discontinutiy is controlled not only by grammatical devices available in the language but by socio-cultural factors and writer's intentions.
