  • The influence of two parameters on fatigue damage predictions of a variably loaded cantilever beam has been examined. The first parameter is the geometry of the cantilever beam and the weld connecting it to a rear panel. Variables of the geometry examined here include the cantilever length, the weld width on the critical cross-section and the angle of the critical cross-section. The second parameter is the safety factor, as set out by the Eurocode 3 standard. An analytical approach has been used to calculate the stresses at the critical cross-section and standard rainflow counting has been used for the extraction of the load cycles from the load history. The results here suggest that a change in the width and angle of the critical cross-section has a non-linear impact on the fatigue damage. The results also show that the angle of the critical cross-section has the biggest influence on the fatigue damage and can cause the weld to withstand fatigue better. The second parameter, the safety factor, is shown to have a significant effect on the fatigue damage calculation, whereby a slight increase in the endurance safety factor can cause the calculated fatigue damage to increase considerably.

  • How to generate the precise broad group cross section is important for the fast reactor design. In this study, a fast reactor multi-group cross-section generation code MGGC2.0 are developed in-house for processing ultrafine group MATXS format library. Validation and verification are performed for MGGC2.0 code by applying the benchmarks of ICSBEP handbook, and the results of MGGC2.0 agree well with that of MCNP. The consistent PN method with critical buckling search is in good agreement that condensed with TWODANT flux and flux moment for the inner core and outer core region. For the radial blanket and reflector, two region approximation method has been applied in MGGC2.0 by using collision Probability Method neutron flux solver. The RBEC-M benchmark was used to verify the power distribution calculation, and the relative error of power distribution comparison with the reference are less than 0.8% in the fuel region and the maximum relative error is 5.58% in the reflector region. Therefore, the precise broad cross section can be generated by MGGC2.0 for fast reactor.

  • In this note, we consider a curved tube with varying cross-section formed by rotating open bounded Euclidean domains with respect to a reference curve, and successfully give a lower bound to the threshold of the Laplacian on the tube, subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions on the surface and Neumann conditions at the ends of the tube. This generalizes the corresponding result in [1].

  • The neutron induced nuclear data for Mo-95, Tc-99, Ru-101 and Rh-103 was calculated and evaluated in the fast energy region. The energy dependent optical model potential parameters were extracted based on the recent experimental data and applied up to 20 MeV. The s-wave strength function was calculated from the parameters. Spherical optical model, statistical model in equilibrium energy, multistep direct and multistep compound model in pre-equilibrium energy and direct capture model were used in the calculation. The theoretically calculated cross sections were compared with the experimental data and the evaluated files The model- calculated total and capture cross sections were in good agreement with the reference experimental data. The direct capture contribution improved the capture cross sections in pre- equilibrium region. The evaluated cross section results were compiled to ENDF-6 format and will improve the ENDF/B-Vl.

  • Eleven wrasse species inhabit the coastal waters of Jeju Island, Korea. They are the target of leisure fishing and are considered good eating. We investigated the distribution of standard length (SL) by sex of wrasse in Jeju coastal waters for Halichores poecilopterus, H. tenuispinis, Pseudolabrus japonicus, and Pteragogus flagellifera. A cross-section of the ovary showed the ovarian cavity and ovarian lamellae containing oocytes. A cross-section of the testis showed many lobules containing spermatogonia and spermatocytes. A cross-section of a gonad undergoing sex reversal showed the regression or reduction of oocytes and some spermatocytes located in the ovarian lamellae. A cross-section of a sex-reversed testis showed the primary structure of the ovary, with spermatocytes distributed in the epithelium of the lamellae, and reformed seminiferous ducts in the basement lamellae. • The 3-lobes blower has been conventionally made by constructing the impeller with the cross-section of simple arc, and has several problems such as noise, vibration and the oscillation of torque. These are caused by the variation of clearance between both impellers rotating in geared. In the present study, an approach for the design of cross-section of impeller has been proposed to prevent the above problems. The whole cross-section is divided into the concave and convex part. The concave zone is designed by simple arc and the convex zone is modified by the condition that some part of convex zone is always in contact with the other impeller during rotating. A sample design has been carried out and it can be seen that the clearance between both impellers is always uniform and the validity of present work has been verified.

  • A vibration analysis for a rotating cantilever beam with the tapered cross section is presented in this study. The stiffness changes due to the stretching caused by centrifugal inertia forces when a tapered cantilever beam rotates about the axis perpendicular to its longitudinal axis. When the cross section of cantilever beam are assumed to decrease constantly, the mass and stiffness also change according to the variation of the thickness and width ratio of a tapered cantilever beam. Such phenomena result in variations of natural frequencies and mode shapes. Therefore it is important to the equations of motion in order to be obtained accurate predictions of these variations. The equations of motion of a rotating tapered cantilever beam are derived by using hybrid deformation variable modeling method and numerical results are obtained along with the angular velocity and the thickness and width ratio.

  • Equations of motion of thin-walled composite H-type cross-section beams exposed to concentrated harmonic and non-harmonic time-dependent external excitations, incorporating a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear, primary and secondary warping, and anisotropy of constituent materials are derived. The forced vibration response characteristics of a composite H-type cross-section beam exhibiting the circumferentially asymmetric stiffness(CAS) configuration are exploited in connection with the structural bending-torsion coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials.
