  • At early stage of creep-fatigue crack growth tests, initial transient behavior which implies high crack growth rate has been generally observed by some researchers. Since the influence of the initial transient crack growth behavior on the remaining life of components is significant, cause of it should be further studied. In this study, characteristics of the initial transient behavior of 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel is studied experimentally by performing creep-fatigue crack growth tests at $538^{\circ}C$ in air under trapezoidal waveshapes. It is verified that the cause of the initial transient behavior is not high ${(C_t)}_{avg}$ values due to the small scale creep condition at the early stage of test, but oxidation-dominated crack growth mechanism during the transient period which is different from the creep-dominated crack growth mechanism in steady crack growth period.

  • The creep-rupture and low cycle fatigue properties of transient liquid phase bonded joints of Ni-base single crystal superalloy, CMSX-2 was investigated using MBF-80 insert metal. The (100) orientation of bonded specimen was aligned perpendicular to the joint interface. CMSX-2 was bonded at 1523K for 1.8ks in vacuum, optimum bonding condition. The creep rupture strength and rupture lives of the joints were the almost identical to ones of the base metal. SEM observation of the fracture surfaces of joints after creep rupture test revealed that the fracture surfaces classified three types of region, ductile fracture surface, cleavage fracture surface and interfacial fracture surface. The low cycle fatigue properties of the joints were also the same level as those of base metal. The elongation and reduction of area values of joints were comparable to those of base metal while fell down on creep rupture condition of high temperature.

  • In this paper, the progressive deformation and the creep-fatigue damage for the conceptually designed reactor internals of KALIMER(Korea Advanced Liquid MEtal Reactor) are carried out by using the elastic analysis method in the RCC-MR code for normal operating conditions including the thermal load, seismic load (OBE) and dead weight. The maximum operating temperature of this reactor is 53$0^{\circ}C$ and the total service lifetime is 30 years. Thus, the time- dependent creep and stress-rupture effects become quite important in the structural design. The effects of the thermal induced membrane stress on the creep-fatigue damage are investigated with the risk of the elastic follow-up. To calculate the thermal stress, detailed thermal analyses considering conduction, convection and radiation heat transfer mechanisms are carried out with the ANSYS program. Using the results of the elastic analysis, the progressive deformation and creep-fatigue damages are calculated step by step using the RCC-MR in detail. This paper ill be a very useful guide for an actual application of the high temperature structural design of the nuclear power plant accounting for the time-dependent creep and stress-rupture effects.

  • The microstructural evolution of ferritic 9Cr-1Mo-V-Nb steel, subjected to creep-fatigue at $550^{\circ}C$, was evaluated nondestructively by measuring the ultrasonic velocity. The variation of the ultrasonic velocity with the fatigue life fraction exhibited three regions. In the first region ($N/N_f$<0.2), a significant increase in the velocity was observed, followed by a slight increase between the fatigue life fractions of $0.2N_f$ and $0.8N_f$, and then a decrease in the final region. The change of the ultrasonic velocity during creep-fatigue was interpreted in relation to the microstructural properties. This study proposes an ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation method of quantifying the level of damage and microstructural change during the creep-fatigue of ferritic 9Cr-1Mo-V-Nb steel.

  • The creep behavior of Ni-Cr-W alloy at 950 ℃ has been investigated by a novel creep testing system which is capable of in-situ measurement of strain. Tubular specimens were pressurized with argon gas for effective stresses up to 32 MPa. Experimental results show that the thermal fatigue reduces the creep life of the tubular specimens and with the introduction of thermal cycling fatigue the primary stage disappears and the creep rate higher than the pure thermal creep (without thermal fatigue). Also the creep behavior of Ni-Cr-W alloy doesn't consist in the secondary stage. A new creep equation has been derived and implemented into finite element method. The results from the finite element analyses are in good agreement with the creep experiment.

  • The ferritic 9Cr-1Mo-V-Nb heat-resisting steel was experimentally studied in order to characterize its microstructural evolution during creep-fatigue by coercivity measurement. The creep-fatigue test was conducted at $550\;^{\circ}C$ with the tensile holding time of 60s and 600s, respectively. The coercivity decreased until the failure and the hardness monotonously decreased for the whole fatigue life. As the life fraction of creep-fatigue increased, the $M_{23}C_6$ carbide coarsened following the Ostwald ripening mechanism. However, the MX carbonitrides did not grow during creep-fatigue due to so stable at $550\;^{\circ}C$. The width of martensite lath increased because of the dislocation recovery at the lath boundaries. The magnetic coercivity has an influence on the microstructural properties such as dislocation, precipitates and martensite lath boundaries, which interpreted in relation to microstructural changes. Consequently, this study proposes a magnetic coercivity to quantify the level of damage and microstructural change during the creep-fatigue of ferritic 9Cr-1Mo-V-Nb steel.

  • The proper selection of materials for the intended use of the structural member is of particular interest. The paper deals with determining both the mechanical properties at different temperatures and the behavior in tensile creep as well as fatigue testing of tensile stressed specimens made of low alloy 42CrMo4 steel delivered as annealed and cold drawn. This steel is usually used in engineering practice in design of statically and dynamically stressed components. Displayed engineering stress - strain diagrams indicate the mechanical properties, creep curves indicate the material creep behavior while experimental investigations of fatigue may ensure the fatigue limit determination for considered stress ratio. Also, hardness testing provides an insight into material resistance to plastic deformation. Experimentally obtained results regarding material properties were: tensile strength (735 MPa / $20^{\circ}C$, 105 MPa / $680^{\circ}C$), yield strength (593 MPa / $20^{\circ}C$, 76 MPa / $680^{\circ}C$). Fatigue limit in the amount of 532.26 MPa, as maximum stress at stress ratio R = 0.25 at ambient temperature was calculated on the basis of experimentally obtained results. Regarding the creep resistance it is visible that this steel can be treated as creep resistant at high temperatures (including $580^{\circ}C$) when applied stress is of low level (till 0.2 of yield stress).

  • The choice of individual material for industrial application is primarily based on knowledge of its behavior in similar applications and similar environmental conditions. Contemporary design implies knowledge of material behavior and knowledge in the area of structural analysis supported by large capacity computers. Bearing this in mind, this paper presents and analyzes the experimental results related to the mechanical properties of the material considered (30CrNiMo8/1.6580/AISI 4340) at different temperatures as well as its creep and fatigue behavior. All experimental tests were carried out as uniaxial tests. The test results related to the mechanical properties are presented in the form of engineering stress-strain diagrams. The results related to the creep behavior of the material are shown in the form of creep curves, while the fatigue of the material is shown in the form of stress - life (S - N) diagram. Based on these experimental results, the values of the following properties are determined: ultimate tensile strength (${\sigma}_{m,20}=696MPa$), yield strength (${\sigma}_{0.2,20}=355.5MPa$), modulus of elasticity ($E_{,20}=217GPa$) and fatigue limit (${\sigma}_{f,20,R=-1}=280.4MPa$). Results related to fatigue tests were obtained at room temperature and stress ratio R = -1.

  • In this paper, global full 3D finite element analysis fatigue models are constructed for flip-chip BGA on board to predict the creep fatigue life of solder joints during the thermal cycling test. The fatigue model applied is based on Darveaux's empirical equation approach with non-linear viscoplastic analysis of solder joints. It was estimated by the creep life as the variations of the four kinds of thermal cycling test conditions, pad structure, composition and size of solder ball. The shortest fatigue life of results was obtained at the thermal cycling testing condition of -65℃ ∼ 150℃. It was increased about 3.5 times in comparison with that of 0℃ ∼ 100℃. As the change of pad structure at the same other conditions, the fatigue life of SMD structure increased about 5.7% as compared with NSMD structure. Consequently, it was confirmed that the fatigue life became short as the creep strain energy density increased in solder joint.

  • Long-term performance of polymer under constant sustained load has been the main research focus, which created a need for the accelerated test method providing proper lifetime assessment. Cycling fatigue loading is one of the accelerated test method and has been of great interest. Microstructure change of high density polyethylene under cyclic fatigue loading and creep was examined utilizing a tensile device specially designed for creep and fatigue test and also can be attachable to the X-ray diffractometer. In this way, the crystal morphology change of polyethylene under creep and cyclic fatigue load was successfully monitored and compared. Despite the marked differences in macroscopic deformation between the creep and cyclic fatigue tests, crystal morphology such as crystallinity, crystal size, and $d$-spacing was as nearly identical between the two test cases. Specimens pre-deformed to different strains, i.e., before yield point (BYP), at yield point (YP) and after yield point (AYP), however, showed markedly different changes in crystal morphology, especially between AYP and the other two specimens.
