  • This study analyzed the effectiveness by developing an online program to enhance collaborative problem-solving capabilities for college freshmen using gamification. According to the research results, the operational model of the online program for enhancing collaborative problem-solving capabilities using gamification was presented in five stages: 1 preparation, 2 team building, 3 assessment, 4 feedback, and 5 achievement sharing. The results of the "pre-test" and post T-test of creative problem-solving capabilities, the variables related to creative problem-solving skills, academic challenge, creative thinking ability, and convergence value creation have been significantly improved. What should be discussed in the future is the need to experience collaborative problem solving process online, and to develop game design and platform that can discuss and communicate.

  • In the domestic game development field, game system planning is the work that game designers design the gameplay mechanics system to satisfy the game concepts in the perspective of creative design by data structural methods. But the programmers work to design the game system based on the results of the game system planning in the perspective of engineering design by object-oriented methods. This work process is a high risky way for high occurring probability of communication errors between the game designers and programmers, and mismatching errors in their work results. In this study, we propose an object-oriented design method of game system for the game designers in order to resolve this problem. The proposed method is a customized one of GRAPPLE object-oriented SW development guidelines to suit the game system planning. To investigate the effectiveness of the proposed planning method for the game designers, we carried out a survey targeting 10 game system designers working in the domestic game industry. The survey results show that the necessity and effectiveness of the proposed method is "a little over" for almost the game designers.

  • The styles by character type in customizing systems were analyzed, being classified into creative style, attractive style, grotesque style, usual style, and suit style on the basis of the 'fashion style types of game characters' proposed in the previous research. The creative and convergent designs that couldn't be implemented in reality were expressed in various forms because those designs were created in virtual space, one feature of games. The analysis of the fashion styles of characters was focused on the RPG using the characters with exaggerated body proportions beyond the general body proportions in reality and the features on game characters that were identified by gamers. Thus, the creative style and attractive style showed a high frequency. The common features were identified because the costume designs and colors for characters are generally selected in accordance with the gamers' requests or by reflecting the view on the world. However, it was difficult to find out the representative cases for hair designs and colors because of excessively diverse expressions. The results of this paper will be a valuable reference for the research on the fashion item development manual satisfying the gamers' personalities and requests and relevant research.

  • Key areas of digital contents, the games and animation industries are increasingly expanding. Therefore, training of a specialized workforce is required in accordance with these enterprises' growing demand. Education in the field of games and animation lies in cultivating talents with creative thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Thus, this paper aims to propose a PBSL teaching model for creative convergent talent through game and animation projects. The study will focus on the characteristics of creative convergence talents, project teaching, and related job competencies for game and animation education. Based on literature research, a 'Project Based Self Learning' instructional model is presented, in which creative thinking and collaboration competencies are explained in a way they can be performed by the learner. As a case study, D University's class was applied with PBSL. A survey showed that the autonomy aspects were higher than the creativity and convergence attitudes, indicating that the students improved their autonomy and motivation. However, the team composition needs further supplementation.

  • It is important the initial process during game development - the stage where creative idea expression is needed - decides the chance of success. CGTS(Creative Group Thinking System) is a web based system made for that particular-conceptual-step. As for this study is to show the conversion of ideas and the synergy effects of the tips given. Based on the facts, conceptual needs will be more strengthen during the initial stage. The intention of this study is to improve the game developing process.

  • This study analyzed a total of 1,025 quests in the 'Warlords of Draenor' which is the fifth expansion set to the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft, by dividing them into violent and nonviolent quests. There was a total of 515 nonviolent quests which can be categorized into 46 types and a total of 510 violent quests that can be categorized into 7 types. The balance between violent and nonviolent quests shows that the game makers limited the number of adverse factors that can cause the players to be excessively absorbed in the game while successfully incorporating factors that can have positive effect on game players.
