  • This study attempted to investigate the relationship among engineering students' creativity, engineering education accreditation, gender, and academic year. To be specific, fist, we examined the validity and reliability of the instrument for measuring engineering students' creativity by conducting Rasch analysis. Second, we compared level of creativity in terms of gender, academic year, and engineering education accreditation by using three-way ANOVA. Third, correlations among four constructs of creativity were examined. Fourth, latent classes with respect to creativity within the participants were identified using polytomous latent class analysis (poLCA). Data were collected from 2098 engineering students by using instrument for measuring four different constructs (creative cognition, creative tendency, collaboration, environment). By using Rasch analysis, validity and reliability of instrument for measuring creativity were confirmed. And the results of three-way ANOVA showed that there were significant difference in creativity in terms of gender. Female students showed the low level of creativity compared with male students. Also there were significant difference in creativity except creative cognition factor in terms of academic year. But there were no significant difference in creativity between students who participated engineering education accreditation program and the others. All constructs of creativity were significantly correlated with each others. Lastly, poLCA results showed that there were three distinct subgroups within engineering students in terms of the level of creativity. In the subgroup with low creativity, there were more female and first year students. Based on these findings, we discussed education for engineering students' creativity.

  • The study is to compare the temperaments and characters of the gifted in invention with those of the genearl students, and also the characteristics of the subgroups of the gifted in invention through the LPA analysis. The results of the study are as follows: First, we compared the results of JTCI (Junior Temperament and Character Inventory) between the students entering Institute of Invention Science Education and the general students; through this comparison, we found out that the gifted in invention are more creative and willing to accept, generally feel more positive, and have the motivation to pursue meaningful goals and values above the personal needs than the non-gifted. Second, through the LPA analysis, the gifted in invention were divided into two subgroups; one group which showed far higher scores on pursuing stimulus, the subscale of temperaments, and slightly higher scores on autonomy, the subscale of characters, and the other group which showed the similar scores on pursuing stimulus and far higher scores on autonomy.

  • In this paper, a shape design sensitivity analysis(DSA) method is presented for Mindlin plates using an isogeometric approach. The isogeometric method possesses desirable advantages; the representation of exact geometry and the higher order inter-element continuity, which lead to the fast convergence of solution as well as accurate sensitivity results. Unlike the finite element methods using linear shape functions, the isogeometric method considers the exact normal vector and curvature of the CAD geometry, taking advantages of higher order NURBS basis functions. A selective reduced integration(SRI) technique is incorporated to overcome the difficulty of 'shear locking' phenomenon. This simple technique is surprisingly helpful for the accuracy of the isogeometric shape sensitivity without complicated formulation. Through the numerical examples of plate bending problems, the accuracy of the proposed isogeometric analysis method is compared with that of finite element one. Also, the isogeometric shape sensitivity turns out to be very accurate when compared with finite difference sensitivity.

  • The purpose of this research is to examine the characteristics of team interaction according to the creativity of team members. Research subjects to achieve this purpose included 28 students who are in engineering education in the College of Education at A University in Daejeon and have taken robot-related courses. Through first and second MBTI, and TTCT tests, the final homogeneous and heterogeneous teams were formed, and an experimental study was conducted by developing team design activity assignment. The major research results were as follows. In terms of a comprehensive view on interaction frequency, both homogeneous team and heterogeneous team suggested had the highest frequency in suggesting opinions. However, each of the team members in the homogeneous team had different communication frequency among each other while each team member in the heterogeneous team had almost similar frequency. A microscopic analysis of the communication process of homogeneous team showed that the team members' roles were divided among each other in communication. Next, according to the microscopic analysis of the heterogeneous team's communication process, the team members exchanged opinions in the beginning, talked to themselves in words that were hard to understand the meanings, and they stopped having conversations in the end. Due to such decrease in communication, two team members could not solve the confusing state of being unable to understand each other's opinions and failed to complete their assignments. The microscopic analysis demonstrated that the homogeneous team had a smooth interaction, because when one team member suggested an opinion during a conversation, other team members agreed with it through a discussion. However, the members in the heterogeneous team experienced confusion as they could not understand each other's conversation and could not overcome this problem, leading to lack of conversations.

  • Using the bond-based peridynamics and the parallel computation with binary decomposition, an adjoint shape design sensitivity analysis(DSA) method is developed for the dynamic crack propagation problems. The peridynamics includes the successive branching of cracks and employs the explicit scheme of time integration. The adjoint variable method is generally not suitable for path-dependent problems but employed since the path of response analysis is readily available. The accuracy of analytical design sensitivity is verified by comparing it with the finite difference one. The finite difference method is susceptible to the amount of design perturbations and could result in inaccurate design sensitivity for highly nonlinear peridynamics problems with respect to the design. It turns out that $C^1$-continuous volume fraction is necessary for the accurate evaluation of shape design sensitivity in peridynamic discretization.

  • In this paper, we propose CANVAS (Creative ANalytics enVironment And System), an analytics system of the National Research Data Platform (DataON). CANVAS is a personalized analytics cloud service for researchers who need computing resources and tools for research data analysis. CANVAS is designed in consideration of scalability based on micro-services architecture and was built on top of open-source software such as eGovernment Standard framework (Spring framework), Kubernetes, and JupyterLab. The built system provides personalized analytics environments to multiple users, enabling high-speed and large-capacity analysis by utilizing high-performance cloud infrastructure (CPU/GPU). More specifically, modeling and processing data is possible in JupyterLab or GUI workflow environment. Since CANVAS shares data with DataON, the research data registered by users or downloaded data can be directly processed in the CANVAS. As a result, CANVAS enhances the convenience of data analysis for users in DataON and contributes to the sharing and utilization of research data.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of local festivals on regional economic growth through empirical analysis of festival - economic growth relation. Theoretically, the theory of creative city is at the center of the discussion as to how festivals can influence economic growth. We used the regional convergence equation and used pooled OLS, fixed effect model, and GMM estimation method to analyze the effect of festivals on regional economic growth. According to this empirical analysis, the effect of festival variables such as the number of festivals and the festival period on economic growth has not been affected. This suggests that the effects of festivals on productivity and efficiency have not existed. This implies that the creative city theory that local festivals influence regional economic growth does not work well.

  • In these days it can be said that knowledge based society has been passed through and creative society is approaching, and the important keywords to the coming creative society should be the knowledge, the creativity, and the convergence. In order to make preemptive responses to this 21 century's new creative society, cultivation of gifted students with integrated prototype is also an imperative reason to prepare. With this historical background Korean Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology announced "a general plan on invigoration of elementary and middle school level art education for cultivation of creativeness and humanity" containing the acting curriculums of science and art integrated on June 2010, and also announced "the second general plan for support on development of science and technology professionals" including STEAM education for elementary and middle school level at January 2011. In this paper we developed a strategy appliable to establish an education institution for gifted students specialized on promoting the students to the convergence type gifted students. For the purpose, we derived the necessity for convergence education for the gifted and the implication points through analysis on the examples, and developed a strategy to establish an education institution for gifted students.
