  • A study was made on the chemical treatment of silica and silane coupling agents, bistriethox ysilylpropyltetrasulfide(Si 69) and ${\gamma}$-mercaptopropyltrimethoxy silane (MPS) for reinforcement of silica formulation. The effects of chemical treatment method and the most popular two coupling agents were examined. The results clearly indicate that the wet method, coupling agent is combined chemically with the silica prior to mixing, has more dispersion, wetting ability, dynamic properties and stability than the dry method, coupling agent is premixed directly with the silica. The mixing was done using a bench-type kneader having two mixing cam and a two-roll mill, under approximately similar conditions. The physical properties of SBR vulcanizates give rise to marked improvements by addition of Si 69 and MPS in comparison with without silane coupling agents. The optimum amount of Si 69 and MPS was 2 w/w% by experiments in the dry method but was 4 w/w% by EA and TGA analysis in the wet method.

  • This paper studies asymptotic consensus problem for linear multi-agent systems. We propose a distributed state feedback control algorithm for solving the problem under fixed and undirected network communication. In contrast with the conventional algorithms that use global information (e.g., graph connectivity), the proposed algorithm only uses local information from neighbors. The principle for achieving asymptotic consensus is that, for each agent, a distributed update law gradually increases the coupling gain of LQR-type feedback and thus, the overall stability of the multi-agent system is recovered by the gain margin of LQR.

  • Interfacial and microfailure properties of carbon fiber/epoxy matrix composites were evaluated using both tensile fragmentation and compressive Broutman tests with an aid of acoustic emission (AE) monitoring. A polymeric maleic anhydride coupling agent and a monomeric amino-silane coupling agent were used via the electrodeposition (ED) and the dipping applications, respectively. Both coupling agents exhibited significant improvements in interfacial shear strength (IFSS) compared to the untreated case under tensile and compressive tests. The typical microfailure modes including fiber break of cone-shape, matrix cracking, and partial interlayer failure were observed during tensile test, whereas the diagonal slippage in fiber ends was observed under compressive test. For both loading types, fiber breaks occurred around just before and after yielding point. In both the untreated and treated cases AE amplitudes were separately distributed for the tensile testing, whereas they were closely distributed for the compressive tests. It is because of the difference in failure energies of carbon fiber between tensile and compressive loading. The maximum AE voltage for the waveform of carbon or basalt fiber breakages under tensile tests exhibited much larger than those under compressive tests, which can provide the difference in the failure energy of the individual failure processes.

  • The effects of wood species, chemical components, filler loading level, filler particle size, and coupling agent on the water absorption property of the wood flour filled polypropylene (PP) composites were investigated in this study. After 500, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000, 2,500 and 3,000 hr water immersion, Quercus (Quercus accutisima Carr.) and Maackia (Maackia amuresis Rupr. et Maxim) showed significantly lower water absorption properties compared to Larix (Larix kaempferi Lamb.). As wood flour loading increases from 10 to 50 wt%, most wood species showed increased water absorption after a given immersion period. Particle size of wood flour proved to have very significant effects on water absorption of the composites. The effect of coupling agent was positive in terms of lowering water absorption of the composites. As the treatment level of coupling agent increases, the water absorption of the composites decreases. The lowest water absorption was obtained at the lower wood flour loading (Maackia), smaller particle size and by the addition of coupling agent. Thickness swelling of the composites shows close dependency on water absorption.

  • Five natural rubber (NR) composites with different reinforcing systems of unfilled, carbon black, carbon black with silane coupling agent, silica, and silica with silane coupling agent were thermally aged and change of the crosslink densities by the accelerated thermal aging was investigated. The crosslink densities on the whole increased as the aging time elapsed irrespective of the reinforcing systems. The crosslink density changes became noticeable by increasing the aging temperature. For carbon black-filled composites, the silane coupling agent made the crosslink density change to be increased. For silica-filled composites, however, the silane coupling agent made the crosslink density increment reduced at 60 and $70^{\circ}C$ and it hardly affect the degree of the crosslink density change at 80 and $90^{\circ}C$. The activation energies for the crosslink density changes of the carbon black-filled samples increased continuously in a logarithmic fashion, whereas that of the silica-filled one showed a quasi-steady state ranges at aging times of 30-150 days. The activation energy of the unfilled sample increased exponentially with the aging time. The experimental results were explained with sulfur donation from the silane coupling agent, surface modification of the filler by the silane coupling agent, adsorption of curative residues on the silica surface, and release of the adsorbed curative residues.

  • The solution polymerization was conducted to synthesize pressure sensitive adhesive for polarizer film using acrylic monomers. 2-Ethylhexylacrylate, butylacrylate, acrylic acid were used as acrylic monomers. The ratio was 2-ethylliexylacrylate:butylacrylate:acrylic acid=25:50:3.6 by reflecting $-40^{\circ}C$ of glass transition temperature in the pressure sensitive adhesive. When 1 wt% of coupling agent was added to the polymerized pressure sensitive adhesive, the light transmissivity was significantly increased. This result is due to the enhancement of adhesive power against liquid crystal cell by Si-O bond of coupling agents. Cross-linking agent was added by 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 wt% with respect to the synthesized polymer. Initial tackiness decreased, while cohesion increased with increasing crosslinking agent. In the analysis of contact angle, the increase of crosslinking agents yielded the enhancement of surface energy, resulting in the decrease of contact angle. From the measurement of heat resistance, the acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive showed excellent heat resistance regardless of change in temperature and contents in crosslinking agent. In the observation of a cutting plane, the increased crosslinking agent represented a smoother and cleaner section. Comprehensively, the optimum additive amount of crosslinking agent was determined to be 1.0 wt% to monomer.

  • The parameters of silanol formation reaction of organosilane including solvent type, solution concentration, pH and hydrolysis time influence the adhesion property of 2 layer flexible copper clad laminate (FCCL). Especially, the hydrolysis reaction time of silane coupling agent affects the formation of the silanol groups and their self-condensation to generate oilgomeric structure to enhance the surface treatment as an adhesive promoter. In our study, we prepared the binary silane coupling agents to control hydrolysis reaction rate and surface energy after treatment of silane coupling agents for increasing the adhesive property between a copper layer and a polyimide layer. The surface morphology of rolled copper foil, as a function of the contents of the coated binary silane coupling agent, was fully characterized. As fabricated 2-layer FCCL, we observed that adhesive properties were changed by hydrolysis rate and surface energy.

  • Conductive pastes consist of conductive fillers( Au, Ag, Ni, Cu etc.), organic binders, solvents and additives. Meanwhile, there are some metal powders such as copper, nickel etc that are used for pastes which have serious surface corrosion problems. This problem leads to change of the color and decrease in conductivity and affect storage stability of conductive pastes. By using silane coupling agent and dispersion agent, we can ensure both the corrosion stability and long term storage stability, and enhance the high performance electrical and mechanical properties of EMI shielding silicone sealant.
