Modal parameters determine the frequency response characteristics of vibration system or acoustic system. When the two systems are fully coupled, however, coupling changes the vibrational and acoustic model parameters into those of the coupled system. In this case, it is very difficult to obtain the modified model parameters and response characteristics. In this paper, coupling effect is analytically investigated on the natural frequency, mode and frequency response characteristics. The result can be applied to understand and to design the frequency response characteristics of the vehicle passenger compartment.
In this paper, the implementation of a tightly coupled real-time GPS/INS integrated system is discussed. The hardware is developed for any GPS receiver and any IMU. The navigation software is modularized by tasks, so that can be easily modified when the integrated system is restructured. A van test was performed to show the feasibility of the proposed system.

In this study, a new type of electrode device is implemented to measure the capacitance energy and interpret it as the ECG (Electrocardiogram) data. The main idea of this new electrode system is to estimate the capacitance on the skin by assembling a capacitive-coupled circuits and translate into the ECG signal. To measure the coupling energy and estimate the aquired data in terms of heart activity, the capacitive-coupled electrode is garmented with fabrics in the form of a chest band or a vest jacket. To compare the ECG data from the capacitive-coupled electrode with the conventional electrode(Ag-AgCl) system, the corelation coefficient between two signals is computed as 0.9517. Thus, we can conclude the fact that capacitive-coupled electrode system can measure a person's heart activity without any contact to his or her skin and can the interpreted as the ECG data.
This paper presents seismic analysis of concrete gravity dams considering soil-structure-fluid interaction. Displacement based plane strain finite element formulation is considered for the dam and foundation domain whereas pressure based finite element formulation is considered for the reservoir domain. A direct coupling method has been adopted to obtain the interaction effects among the dam, foundation and reservoir domain to obtain the dynamic responses of the dam. An efficient absorbing boundary condition has been implemented at the truncation surfaces of the foundation and reservoir domains. A parametric study has been carried out considering each domain separately and collectively based on natural frequencies, crest displacement and stress at the neck level of the dam body. The combined frequency of the entire coupled system is very less than that of the each individual sub-system. The crest displacement and neck level stresses of the dam shows prominent enhancement when coupling effect is taken into consideration. These outcomes suggest that a complete coupled analysis is necessary to obtain the actual responses of the concrete gravity dam. The developed methodology can easily be implemented in finite element code for analyzing the coupled problem to obtain the desired responses of the individual subdomains.
Vibration mode localization and frequency loci veering in disordered coupled beam system are studied in this paper using finite element analysis. Two beams coupled with transverse and rotational springs are examined. Small disorders in the physical parameters such as Young's modulus, mass density or span length of the substructure are introduced in the investigation of the mode localization and frequency loci veering phenomena. The effect of disorder in the elastic support on the mode localization phenomenon is also discussed. It is found that an asymmetric disorder in the weakly coupled system will lead to the occurrence of mode localization and frequency loci phenomena.

The coupled vibration occurs between traveling vehicle and bridge, when vehicle runs on it. The natural frequency of this coupled system is dependent on the contact position of vehicle and bridge, that is, time-varying system. The calculations of these natural frequencies are very complicated, and often carried out by using Green function theory, series. But, these methods have any limitations, such as, supporting condition, boundary condition. In this paper, on the coupled system constructed by the concentrated mass and elastically supported beam, an analytical method of natural frequency is proposed by using Fourier sine transformation. The results are compared and discussed with numerically calculated ones.

A coupled room system consists of adjacent rooms and apertures where the sound energy is exchanged between the two rooms. Acoustically, a coupled room system shows a non-exponential decay profile. Most of the related researches have been to analyze the acoustic properties of two-room coupled system so far whereas three-room coupled system were seldom studied. In this regard, this paper aims to analyse the distribution of sound pressure level, sound decay curve of three-room coupled system and sound energy flow between them by using the acoustic diffusion model and to further verify them through experiments. Firstly, the sound pressure level distribution and mean sound pressure level in the steady-state condition are analyzed at various frequencies and source locations. Good agreements are observed in both experiments and analysis results. Secondly, two double slope effect quantifiers of sound attenuation, LDT/EDT and LDT/T10 are compared at various frequencies and for different source locations. The result indicates that LDT/T10, less affected by the early reflection patterns than LDT/EDT, is more suitable to the analysis and experiments of a multi-slope sound decay curve. Lastly, the sound energy flow in each room is analyzed based on the acoustic diffusion model. After the early decay stage, the sound energy is observed to flow from the room with a long reverberation time to the room with a short one.

In this paper a general solution method is presented to obtain the unbalance response orbit from the finite element based equations of motion of a gear-coupled two-shaft rotor-bearing system, whose shafts rotate at their different speeds from each other. Particularly, are proposed analytical solutions of the maximum and minimum radii of the orbit. The method has been applied to analyze the unbalance response of a 800 refrigeration-ton turbo-chiller rotor-bearing system having a bull-pinion speed increasing gear. Bumps in the unbalance response of the driven high speed compressor rotor system have been observed at the first torsional natural frequency due to the coupling effect of lateral and torsional dynamics. Further, the proposed analytical solutions have agreed well with those obtained by a full numerical approach. The proposed analytical solutions can be generally applied to obtain the maximum and minimum radii of the unbalance response orbits of dual-shaft rotor-bearing systems coupled by bearings as well.
In this work, we present the theoretical formulation, operator split solution procedure and partitioned software development for the coupled thermomechanical systems. We consider the general case with nonlinear evolution for each sub-system (either mechanical or thermal) with dedicated time integration scheme for each sub-system. We provide the condition that guarantees the stability of such an operator split solution procedure for fully nonlinear evolution of coupled thermomechanical system. We show that the proposed solution procedure can accommodate different evolution time-scale for different sub-systems, and allow for different time steps for the corresponding integration scheme. We also show that such an approach is perfectly suitable for parallel computations. Several numerical simulations are presented in order to illustrate very satisfying performance of the proposed solution procedure and confirm the theoretical speed-up of parallel computations, which follow from the adequate choice of the time step for each sub-problem. This work confirms that one can make the most appropriate selection of the time step with respect to the characteristic time-scale, carry out the separate computations for each sub-system, and then enforce the coupling to preserve the stability of the operator split computations. The software development strategy of direct linking the (existing) codes for each sub-system via Component Template Library (CTL) is shown to be perfectly suitable for the proposed approach.
Coupled porous curved beams, due to their low weight and high flexibility, have many applications in engineering. This study investigates the vibration behavior of coupled porous curved beams in different boundary conditions. The system consists of two curved beams connected by a mid-layer of elastic springs. These beams are made of various materials, such as homogenous steel foam, and composite materials with PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) and SWCNT (single-walled carbon nanotube) used as the matrix and nanofillers, respectively. To obtain equivalent material properties, the role of mixture (RoM) was employed, followed by the implementation of the porosity function. The system's governing equations were obtained by employing FSDT and Hamilton's law. To investigate thermal vibration, temperature was implemented as a load in the governing equations. The GDQ method was used to solve these equations. To demonstrate the applicability of the GDQ method in calculating the frequencies of the system and the correctness of the developed program, a validation study was conducted. After validation, numerous examples were presented to investigate the behavior of single and coupled curved beams in various material properties and boundary conditions. The results indicate that the frequencies of the curved beams and the system depend highly on the amount of porosity (n) and the distribution pattern. The system frequencies decreased with an increase in the porosity coefficient. The stiffness of the springs had no effect on the first mode frequency but increased frequencies of other modes in a specific range. The frequencies of the system decreased with an increase in environmental temperature.
