The main purpose of this research was to explore the factors that encourage people to use the cyber counseling in resolving difficulties in their lives. Another purpose of this research was to investigate whether cyber counseling really helps people feel better. For this study, a structured survey questionnaire was distributed both on- and off-line, and 429 respondents returned completed survey forms. The major statistical methods used for data analysis were frequency, factor analysis, 1-test and ANOVA. The results of this study revealed that variables such as gender, age, occupation, internet skills, time of internet use, personality, and the awareness of cyber counseling made a difference in people's use of cyber counseling whenever they felt they needed it. However, cyber counseling seemed to fail to increase feelings of well being in people's lives. The implications of these findings are discussed in this article.
The purposes of the study were to identify knowledge and skill levels required for effective nutrition teachers and to compare perceived need and dietitians' self-evaluation of the knowledge and skills. A total of 60 knowledge statements and 70 skill statements associated with 11 job functional areas were specified through a literature review and expert panel reviews. A total of 457 dietitians working at school foodservices in Seoul and Gyeonggi province were surveyed using a self-administrated questionnaire and 148 responses were returned. Excluding responses with significant missing data, 142 responses were used for data analysis. In terms of knowledge, 'sanitation, food safety and employee safety(4.60)' category received the highest perceived need score, followed by 'nutrition education(4.56)' and 'nutrition counseling(4.45).' The knowledge category that received the highest self-evaluation was 'nutrition and menu management(3.66)' while the category that received the lowest self-evaluation was 'teaching practices(2.83).' In terms of skills, the highest perceived need was associated with 'nutrition education(4.49)', followed by 'sanitation, food safety and employee safety(4.46)' and 'nutrition counseling(4.39).' The dietitians rated their skills related to 'sanitation, food safety and employee safety(3.67)' the highest but their skills related to 'teaching practices(2.84)' the lowest. The dietitians' self-evaluated knowledge and skill scores were significantly lower than their perceived need of the knowledge and skills in all job functional areas(p<0.001). A quadratic analysis based on the requirement and self-evaluation of the knowledge and skills revealed that priorities of the education programs targeting school nutrition teachers or students preparing to be a nutrition teacher should be placed on improving knowledge and skills related to nutrition education, nutrition counseling, teaching practices, sanitation and employee safety, and nutrition and menu management. Educational programs for nutrition teachers should be designed to decrease the gaps between the need and self-evaluation of the knowledge and skills for effective nutrition teachers. The findings of the study can be used to develop education materials for nutrition teachers. The knowledge and skills identified in the study should be updated and revised regularly to reflect changes in regulations and current practices in school foodservice programs.
In any military services, young leaders are superiors to another and the leaders must be equipped with not only command and control(C2) and management capabilities but with a skill set that addresses their service members' problems and hardships throughout a counseling approach. These young leaders other than regular professional counselors are wearing dual hats as a commander and a counselor to address their service member's issues. There are couple of hours to give a lecture about counseling during the basic training course, however, we noticed that there are some limitations to cover up the uniqueness of counseling during the course, since we cannot rule out the unique vertical situation within military system that runs by its hierarchy. Therefore, we developed education program in order to enhance commander's counseling skills, refined the program with thorough review and commentary by professions and military commanders, and provided 10 events of program to the young leaders. As a result, the leaders scored high on self-effectiveness, communication skills, and counseling development-level. If we adjust minor changes to the program, it will be the outstanding program to improve young leaders' counseling capability.
Many people including teachers and students' parents must assist each student who will be a hero of future to develop their potential abilities and acquire various skills. Counseling is a fundamental thing to achieve this goal. But, in reality, it is usually difficult to do counseling which makes it possible to establish desirable self-view and world view expertly and systema tically because of burdensome task of teachers, spatial and time limit and students' extracurri cular activities. Taking advantages of computer networking, this research was designed to solve various problematic situations we can usually face with in school and home, to reduce limitations among three parties: teachers, parents and students, and to keep record continuously on the process and contents of counseling. And, also, this research is focused to web-based counseling network that makes possible to build database system easily adapts to specialty of each schools. Web based counseling system will provide these advantages: 1. Through analyzing and editing which will be done by expert In of accumulated database, to realize more systematic and expert database will be possible. 2. Owing to the physical characteristic of cyber space, counseling will be done any time and anywhere the computer is. 3. Because it is possible to minimize social limitations on physical condition, communication channel and anonymity of cyber space, counseling will be relatively easy to perform. 4. The contents of counseling will be automatically recorded on the database.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the textbooks of career counseling which are written or translated in Korean so as to understand the usefulness and limitation on the usage of career counseling textbooks. Research questions are as follows: 1) what contents are included in textbooks of career counseling? 2) what are the differences of content rates among textbooks of career counseling? 10 textbooks of career counseling were analysed(6 textbooks: introduction to career counseling, 4 textbooks: focused on career counseling skills and techniques) based on the competency components for career counseling professionals presented by Yoo(2009). Results indicated that 1) 6 textbooks of introduction to career counseling have the most content of 'category1: theories and concepts related to career counseling'. In comparison, 4 textbooks focused on career counseling skills and techniques have the most content of 'category4: career counseling competency'. 2) Based on the unit of analysis chapter, the highest rates are 'category4: career counseling competency(33.33%)' and 'category1: theories and concepts related to career counseling(28.15%)'. 3) It is hard to find the contents related to the knowledge and skills of individual and group counseling(category 2), the competencies of network, problem solving, peer counselor feedback, administration, ethic(category 8,9,10,11,13), the growth and self-management as professionals(category 12,14).
The purpose of this study was to develop a motivational interviewing (MI) training program to improve competency in communication and to effect the evaluated changes that would occur in dental students' counseling techniques as result of the training in the program. The study proceeded through the program via role-play practice, which was explained effectively during the MI program training process. A convenience sample of 43 fourth-year dental hygiene students was recruited. Twenty-two students were randomly assigned to the intervention group and 21 to the control group in the order of recruitment. The theoretical lecture was delivered over 3 hours and the practice was done in parallel by applying cases occurring in clinic settings. The practice was technical training, partner practice, and small group practice. The intervention group received three hour MI lecture while the control group received no lecture. Evaluation through role-play practice was separated according to "researcher's viewpoint," "counselor's role viewpoint," and "patient's role viewpoint." The results of the analysis showed that the intervention group had higher MI skills and ability than the control group. Furthermore, program participants showed positive impressions to the MI training program. The use of coaching sessions improved the MI techniques and counseling skills of dental hygiene students learning MI. The effect of the application of the MI training program was that the MI training improved counseling skills and interviewing abilities. Moreover, continuous training and feedback enhanced MI techniques and core skills. Training using lectures in parallel with practice rather than education through theory alone improved students' techniques. Application of role play through the combined method of the MI program was confirmed by an effective training method.
This study examines the effects of consumer counseling education on the work performance and work satisfaction of consumer counselors, controlling the effects of other variables. The results of this study is as below: First, approximately 70% of consumer counselors have not had any education pertinent to their work. The level of work performance was highest in listening to customers' complaints, and then consistence of counseling work and explanation for counseling were next. Professionality was the last in order. Second, consumer counseling education did not affect the work performance. Instead, the number of counselors and work experience, along with whether the counselor majored in consumer studies, were more likely to increase the performance. Finally, educating counseling skills did not affect the level of work satisfaction. Instead, the work performance affected the level of work satisfaction. The number of workers and income were positively related with the level of work satisfaction.

The purpose of this study to understand the meaning of nursing through core basic nursing for nursing students before clinical practice. Participants of this study were analyzed through interviews after taking the core basic nursing skills class for 3rd graders who are currently enrolled in the Department of Nursing at M University. Seventeen students were enrolled in a K-city university as a third-year student who first performed core basic nursing skills. As a result of the study, it was derived into 3 categories and 19 thematic collections. The three categories included 1. meaning of help, 2. overcoming fear, and 3. opportunity to acquire nursing skills. The conclusion was that the first core basic nursing skills before clinical practice was a time to learn the true meaning of nursing through mutual help The difficulties were overcome with repeated practice, and the acquisition of newly learned nursing skills appeared as an effective process to experience with confidence. Therefore, it can be used as a useful basic data for counseling and guidance on the adaptation of nursing students to clinical practice, and it is expected that it will be used as a useful data for successful practice application counseling.
Objective: This study aimed to analyze the counseling contents of daycare center teachers by using text mining and semantic network analysis methods to find the necessary support directions for daycare teachers and to improve the quality of child-care. Methods: Five hundred thirteen cases of counseling recorded on the open bulletin board of online counseling (Naver Bands for Nursery Teacher Counseling) were collected, and frequency analysis, centrality solidarity analysis, and machine learning-based topic analysis were conducted using the NetMiner4.3 program. Results: First, 'teacher-to-child ratio' was highest in the frequency. Second, 'colleagues' were all high in all centrality analysis. Third, machine learning-based topical analysis shows that the topics were categorized as subjects about 'childcare and education', 'working environment that supports professional development' and 'working condition', and among them, 'first-time teacher concerns' accounted for 44% of the total counseling content. Conclusion/Implications: This study implied that it is necessary to provide high-quality child-care and education to infants by lowering the 'teacher-to-child ratio', and a systematic program is needed to help improve effective communication skills in interpersonal relationships such as between parents, fellow teachers, and principals. In addition, self-development and efforts to improve teachers expertise should be prioritized in order to improve infant care quality and quality of teachers.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception and satisfaction on the nutrition counseling service for patients consuming a therapeutic diet at hospitals in Busan. The subjects were 153 inpatients at five hospitals with over 400 beds each. The research was performed through the interviewing process using questionnaires conducted from January to February, 2008. In a total of 88 patients, 57.5% had experienced nutrition counseling and were through the motives of counseling with doctors 64.2% and themselves 29.3% of the patients. In the method of nutrition counseling, 58% of the patients had an individual counseling. In the patients' perception on the nutrition counseling, 75.0% of the patients understood very well, 83.0% of them perceived the explanation as very important, 79.5% were very satisfied and 78.7% were helped in nutrition-management. On a scale of 5.00 for the nutrition counseling satisfaction, the average scores were 3.80 for 'explanation of knowledge', 3.71 for 'cognitive communication skills', 4.05 for 'effective communication skills' and 3.60 for 'facilitation skills'. The items of low scores in the nutrition counseling satisfaction were 'follow up diet-therapy after discharge', 'providing to personalized nutrition information', 'presentation of specific menu' and 'methods of menu planning'. There were significant (p<0.01) positive correlation between perception and satisfaction on the nutrition counseling. Therefore, it was suggested that dietitians increase the patients' satisfaction on the nutrition counseling with developing the model based on the patient-centered counseling.
