Exploring the Appropriate Operation Ratio on Hospital Revenue Cost and Profit

  • Many previous researchers tried to analysis relationship between financial index of hospitals such as revenue, expenses, and profit and hospital outcome such as number of inpatient and outpatient or, between that financial index and hospital size including number of hospital beds. However, these studies did not find exact relationship between financial index and hospital efficiency and productivity. Therefore, purpose of the study explores exact relationship between hospital financial outcome and hospital efficiency and productivity using adjusted inpatient days concept from American Hospital Association. Through the empirical analysis, the researchers find that hospital profit has the U-shape quadratic function to operation ratio. 66.9% of operation ratio is changing point and hospitals with 55.8% through 75.0% of operation ration have experience deficit situation. Considering the hospital circumstance, Korean hospitals would be to maintain general hospital type with various specialty departments.

  • 본 연구는 은행과 보험 간의 겸업이 은행의 안정성과 효율성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 실증분석하고 있다. 실증분석은 국내 모든 은행과 보험회사의 2000년부터 2004년까지의 5개년 자료를 가지고 Z-score 및 복합함수형태 (composite functional form) 모형을 사용하여 진행하였다. 안정성 분석결과는, 은행이 보험업을 겸영할 경우 겸업비중이 확대될수록 안전성은 저하됨을 보여주고 있다. 효율성 분석에서는, 전체 은행의 경우 은행이 보험업무의 겸업비중을 확대함에 따라 비용효율성은 감소하지만, 수익효율성은 증가하며, 결과적으로 이익효율성은 증대되는 것으로 나타났다.

  • The amount of the Korean export & import in 1987 reached $88.3 billion which was 1.75% of the total world trade and the proportion of foreign dependence to G.N.P was 74.5%. From these facts, we can infer that the development of national economy is largely dependent upon trade. Therefore the role of transportation, especially Ocean transportation, as a basis of economic development through trade is one of the main factors that can not be passed over. Here, We can define that a port as a subsystem of transportation determines the efficiency of the total transportation system. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to contribute in improvement of the efficiency in port, reinforcement of the international competitiveness for exporting goods by the analysis of the cargo handling charges. In order to do this, this paper deals the case of B.C.T.O.C. Furthermore, this study gives some important informations related to the level of tariffs for establishing an autonomous port administration. The Summary of the conclusions of this paper is as follows ; 1) The object of port administration in Korea has been emphasized on the maximization of efficiency in using the port facilities. Nowadays, however, it should be moved to a direction that port is operated under the compound aims considering the public interests and economy. 2) For a criterian of tariff calculation, A tariff system based on the cost accounting is desirable. In general it is recommended that the cost for construction, management, and operation of port is compensated by the revenue from port operation. Therefore, it is necessary for the administration bodies of each port to establish a tariff system on the basis of the independent profit system. 3) For the investigation of actors of tariff adjustment by the Break-even point analysis, (1) When we conducted the B.E.P analysis using total cost as cost term, we got 3.8% discount in tariff at 12% of target profit rate and 1.5% discount at 15% of rate. when we set the target profit rate as 17% we could have the proper tariff level. (2) When using operating cost as cost term, we got 13.1% discount in tariff at 12% of target profit rate and 10.9% discount at 15% of rate. When setting the target profit rat as 28%, we could have the proper tariff level. 4) Comparing with the tariffs of foreign ports for the basic terminal rate, The tariff level of B.C.T.O.C showed 33% of stevedoring charge and 80% of marshalling charge incurred at Kobe port. The comparison with Singapore port gave 50% of transhipment charge and 17% - 20 % of stevedoring charge. 5) We found that the financial structure of B.C.T.O.C was better than those of other companies and the worth fixed assets ratio was too low. The fact of low worth fixed assets ratio implies that the cargo handling facilities should be increased. Moreover, The return of assets for B.T.T.O.C was good but non-operating expenses were still contained too much in. Therefore, we think that it is necessary for B.C.T.O.C. to rationalize business management. Although the present cargo handing charge for B.C.T.O.C is a proper level in terms of a public corporation, for the final recommendation in connection to the results, It is required to take the rationalization process for business management.

Specifically, decisions on retail pricing and warehouse inventory policies are made in integration to maximize total profit in the supply chain. The objective function of the model consists of sub-functions of revenue and cost (holding cost and penalty cost). To test the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithm, numerical experiments are performed The computational results show that the proposed algorithm is efficient and derives quite good decisions

BIM-based Property Management by Linking Maintenance with Financial Data for Commercial Building Projects

  • For a commercial building, property managers play an important role in maximizing the benefit by reducing cost and increasing revenue in the operation and maintenance phase of the building. However, most of property managers are spending their time in monitoring facility managers who have little impact on cost reduction and maximization of operating profit. The industry practitioners have difficutlty in increasing the efficiency of thier work due to this work environment. In addition, both property managers(PMr) and facility managers(FMr) are dependent on the paper drawings and manuals, which can worsen the inefficiency and human errors are inevitable. This study aims to contribute to improvement of the current practice by developing a novel algorithm that autmatically links the facility information with 3D model, which can provide an efficient property management for commercial buildings.

  • 에너지는 기업이 생산활동을 하는데 필수불가결한 요소이다. 그렇다면 에너지 가격이 상승할 때 기업의 이윤이 감소하지 않기 위한 조건은 무엇인가? 결론적으로 말해서 에너지 가격 변화율에 따른 생산성 향상 변화율이 총매출액 대비 에너지 비용보다 클 경우 기업은 에너지 가격의 상승으로 인한 충격을 피할 수 있다. 또한 기업이 에너지 비용을 낮춘다는 것은 에너지 효율성을 향상시킨다는 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 우리나라 제조업에서 유가의 상승이 에너지절약투자에 미치는 영향과 에너지절약투자가 에너지효율성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 통해서 에너지 가격의 상승에 따른 에너지 효율성의 변화와 그 요인을 함께 분석할 수 있다는 데에 본 연구의 의의를 두고자 한다.

The first case deals with identical retailers and the second case deals with different retailers with different market sizes. The computational results show that the proposed algorithm is efficient and derives quite good decisions.

일개 병원의 수술실 약제관련 업무 적정화 방안연구: 설문조사를 중심으로 (Evaluating Appropriateness of Medication Use in the Operating Rooms of a Tertiary Hospital: Based on Survey)

  • Background: Since the use of opioid analgesics is frequent in operation rooms (OR), the risk of medication error is high; however the use of medication in the OR has been operating independently with the hospital pharmacy. Therefore, the assessment on management of medication use in operation and the pharmacist's role is needed. Methods: We conducted the literature review and survey from anesthesiologists, operating nurses at Chung-Ang Hospital on management of medication for operation use, awareness on need for medication management efficiency, need for satellite pharmacy in the operating room and its effect. Results: 56% of medical staffs responded that management of medication in the operating room is efficient; however, 82.6% responded that they felt the inconvenience in medication delivery to the OR when additional prescription was ordered. 51.5% also responded that extra time was required for management of narcotics and inventory/record keeping. 80% agreed that there could be lost costs due to prescription missed. Medical staffs responded improving the drug management system could increase the OR efficiency (87%), and eventually bring the increase in hospital revenue (80.4%). Those who responded that implementation of OR satellite pharmacy was needed include physicians (84.6%), nurses (63.6%), and also responded that it'd bring more profit to the hospital by increasing the efficiency in OR (60.9%). Conclusion: For efficient management of medications, implementation of OR satellite pharmacy would lead to improved drug management and increased efficiency in OR and reduced cost and improved patient care.

전기차 카셰어링 시스템 최적화를 위한 모델링 및 시뮬레이션 (Modeling and Simulation of Electric Vehicle Sharing System for Optimized Operation)

  • 전기차 카셰어링은 친환경차량인 전기차를 여러 사용자들이 함께 이용함으로써 교통부문의 온실가스 발생량을 감소시키고, 동시에 자가용 증가로 인한 공간 및 환경문제를 해결할 수 있는 방안으로 주목받고 있다. 그러나 아직 도입단계에 불과하기 때문에 전기차 카셰어링 시스템의 효율성이나 사업가능성에 대한 연구나 분석이 필요한 실정이다. 이러한 배경하에 본 연구에서는 전기차 카셰어링 시스템의 운영상태와 결과를 분석이 가능한 모형을 개발하였으며, 현재 실시되고 있는 시범사업 내용을 반영하여 시뮬레이션을 실시하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 전기차 카셰어링 시스템 운영과 관련된 변수들 사이의 관계와 운영효율을 최대화 할 수 있는 최적용량 등을 분석하였다. 시뮬레이션 분석에서는 차량대수와 충전기수가 증가할수록 서비스 제공율은 계속 증가하다가 일정수준에 도달하면 증가폭과 그 효율이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 카셰어링 시스템 운영에 따른 수익과 비용을 분석하여 연간 운영 이익을 최대화 할 수 있는 최적 차량대수 및 최적 충전기 수를 도출하였다.

항만 양하 크레인의 성능 개선에 따른 이해관계자들의 비용 절감 효과 분석 - 여수 벌크 터미널 중심으로 - (Analysis of Cost Saving Effect on Stakeholders according to Performance Improvement of Harbor Cranes - The Yeosu Bulk Terminal)

  • 터미널 운영사(TOC) 입장에서 하역 크레인의 교체는 하역 성능의 향상을 통해 매출 및 이익을 증가시키기 위하여 투자 결정을 진행한다. 또한, 이러한 투자결정의 목표를 달성하기 위해서는 많은 비용과 노력이 수반되어야 한다. 하지만, 이러한 결정에 대하여 항만 이해관계자들의 적극적인 참여도 필요하나, 항만의 이해관계자들의 입장에서는 당사자들이 얻을 수 있는 기대효과가 분명할때 적극적으로 참여하게 될 것은 분명한 사실이다. 본 연구에서는 하역장비의 교체가 진행되었을 때에 항만 이해관계자들이 얻게 되는 직 간접적 비용 절감 효과를 파악하기 위하여 여수항의 벌크 터미널에서 하역장비 교체에 따른 4년간의 효과를 분석하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면, 직접적인 효과로 선박 용선료 3,649.6백만원, 항만시설이용료 1,528.8백만원, 연료비 1,383.4백만원을 포함하여 총 6,561.8백만원의 비용절감 효과가 나타났음을 알 수 있었다. 간접적인 효과로는 환경오염비용 2,134.8백만원 및 화물 재고비용 972.2백만원을 합쳐서 총 3,107.0백만원의 절감효과가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 결과적으로 TOC의 하역장비 교체는 항만의 이해관계자인 선사, 화주 및 정부 모두에게 비용적인 측면과 다른 측면에서 긍정적인 효과가 있음을 알 수 있다. 이러한 연구 결과를 활용하면, TOC가 하역장비의 교체를 추진함에 있어 이해관계자들의 적극적인 협조를 이끌어 낼 수 있는 근거로 활용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.
