  • This study presents a unique way to improve consumer-oriented service for assistive orthosis products. Satisfaction and important factors were analyzed based on responses from disabled people who have used the orthoses. We surveyed 185 disabled people with QUEST (Quebec User Evaluation of Satisfaction with assistive Technology), and we conducted in-depth interviews with 25 individuals. The average satisfaction score was 3.68 (orthoses satisfaction: 3.78; service satisfaction: 3.52). For each item, the highest score was effectiveness, and the lowest one was cost. As important factors for each item, the participants selected cost, comfort, repair, and service. The fee system for orthoses needs rational revision, and a delivery system should be constructed for follow-up services such as repair.

  • This study seeks to determine if the efficiency of bank human resources, as played by human capital, impacts the performance and diversification of banks. This study uses secondary data from data obtained from 385 commercial banks in 33 countries in Asia during the 2010-2020 period with the diversification analysis method. We use the Z-score to measure the amount of standard deviation that must be from earnings (ROAA). We examined it using the Tobit regression technique. According to the regression estimation results, human capital has a significant role in the performance and effective diversification of Asian banks. The human capital efficiency coefficient (HCE) is significantly negative with the cost-to-income ratio (CTIR) and significantly positive with Profitability, Financial Stability, and cost efficiency score. The level of efficiency of human resources has an effective role in increasing human capital which has an impact on bank diversification and performance. The development of human resources in a human capital framework plays an important role in the diversification and improvement of bank performance. Human capital has a significant role in the performance and effective diversification of Asian banks. The level of efficiency of human resources has an effective role in increasing human capital which has an impact on bank diversification and performance.

  • This paper presents a method for the estimation and analysis of the economic value of weather forecasts for CRM decision-making problems in the leisure industry. Value is calculated in terms of the customer's satisfaction returned from the user's decision under the specific payoff structure, which is itself represented by a customer's satisfaction ratio model. The decision is assessed by a modified cost-loss model to consider the customer's satisfaction instead of the loss or cost. Site-specific probability and deterministic forecasts, each of which is provided in Korea and China, are applied to generate and analyze the optimal decisions. The application results demonstrate that probability forecasts have greater value than deterministic forecasts, provided that the users can locate the optimal decision threshold. This paper also presents the optimal decision strategy for specific customers with a variety of satisfaction patterns.

  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection is known as the main factor for cervical cancer which is a leading cause of cancer deaths in women worldwide. Because there are more than 100 types in HPV, it is critical to discriminate the HPVs related with cervical cancer from those not related with it. In this paper, the risk type of HPVs using their textual explanation. The important issue in this problem is to distinguish false negatives from false positives. That is, we must find high-risk HPVs as many as possible though we may miss some low-risk HPVs. For this purpose, the AdaCost, a cost-sensitive learner is adopted to consider different costs between training examples. The experimental results on the HPV sequence database show that the consideration of costs gives higher performance. The improvement in F-score is higher than that of the accuracy, which implies that the number of high-risk HPVs found is increased.

  • This study deals with the problem of selecting 6 sigma projects. Traditionally, such selection was based on CTQ (critical to quality) or COPQ (cost of poor quality) derived within business units. Since the objective of 6 sigma is to achieve business goals in a short period, 6 sigma projects should be selected and carried out in coincidence with the whole company's strategies. This paper proposes two methods of selecting 6 sigma projects: one is to identify CTQ's by analyzing the company's BSC's (balanced score card) and then deploying them into subunits of the company and the other is to identify those projects with large hidden COPQ or cost of waste by applying value stream analysis and process model simulation to derive process cost models.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of clinical characteristics of chronic stroke patients on physiological cost index (PCI) during walking. Fourteen stroke patients participated in this study. To investigate the clinical characteristics, Fugl-Meyer score (FMS), gait velocity (GV), muscle strength of the knee extensor, modified Ashworth scale (MAS) of ankle plantar flexor, devices, and gait patterns during walking were measured and analyzed. The results were as follows: Firstly, use of devices and high MAS of the ankle plantar flexor significantly increased PCI. Secondly, PCI was significantly correlated with the FMS and MAS of the ankle plantar flexor. In conclusion, inhibition of spasticity of the ankle plantar flexor is considered to reduce PCI during walking for chronic stroke patients.

  • A trial involving 200 day-old 288 Shaver chicks in a randomized experimental design tested the effects of using diets based on local feed materials (LF). Commercial imported counterpart feeds (CF) served as control diets. Birds were raised from 0-6 w on Chick Starter feed, from 7-17 w on Pullet Developer feed and from 18 to 72 w on Layer feed. The results obtained indicated that there were no significant differences in the performance of birds fed LF and CF diets during the Chick Starter and Pullet Developer phases. During the Laying phase, there were also no differences in laying percentage, (66 vs 65) and in egg size (62 vs 63 g) between LF and CF diets. Feed cost was lower on LF diet had a better egg yolk colour score, (4 vs 1) than those fed on CF diet. Feed cost was lower on LF than CF diets and the feed cost for producing eggs was approximately 50 percent lower on LF compared to CF (P$ 0.06 vs P$ 0.12). It was concluded that the use of locally available feed resources produces comparable performance to that obtained using commercial imported feeds. Secondly, using local materials markedly reduces feed cost and cost of producing eggs.

  • Objectives: The present study proposed to evaluate 1st-month and 3rd-month health status, depression, self-efficacy and medical expenses of a community-based health promotive self-management program for old Koreans. Method: Participants in the CDSMP were selected from elders in a community health center through convenient sampling. The program included a 3-hour session per week for 14 weeks. Outcomes of evaluation in the 1st month and the 3rd month included modified Self-rated Health Status Scale, Center for Epidemiologic Studies Short Depression Scale, Self-Efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease 6-item Scale, and 1-item Medical Expenses Scale. Results: Self-rate health scores increased significantly just after the intervention (16.22), in the 1st month (17.57) and in the 3rd month (19.04) (x2=32.06. p=.000); Depression scores (reversed) also increased significantly just after the intervention (6.04), in the 1st month (7.75) and in the 3rd month (8.39) ( $x^2=29.92$. p=.000); Self-efficacy score increased significantly just after intervention (12.87) but it decreased in the 1st month (12.73) and in the 3rd month (12.04). But all of the three scores were still higher than those before the intervention (8.65) ($x^2=32.42$. p=.000): Medical expense score decreased at the end of the intervention (1.57) but the cost score increased in the 1st month (2.48) and in the 3rd month (2.39) ($x^2$=7.81. p=.050). Conclusion: CDSMP is effective in increasing self-rate health and self-efficacy and in decreasing depression in the Korean elderly. However, no significant effect of the program was observed in decreasing the medical cost of the Korean elderly.

  • Most of disabled people face hardness in caring their general oral hygiene by themselves. So that, they are once involved in dental caries or periodontal disease, they have much bigger chance of aggressive progress. Therefore preventive dentistry is more important to disabled one than non-disabled. They need to be checked with routine periodic dental examination and by that, oral disease must be found at initial stage. We selected 37 patients from newly visited 237 patients who had dental treatment at the free dental clinic, Gangnam district, Seoul, between 2000 and 2001. This study is a comparative evaluation of first 2 years' treatment records of selected 37 patients (male 28, female 9) with that of their last 2 years. 24 of 37 have mental retardation, 9 have autistic disorder, 2 have auditory disorder, 1 has brain disorder and 1 has crippled disorder. Their dental treatment records categorized by 4 level; score 4 stands for endodontic treatment, score 3 stands for general conservative treatment, score 2 stands for preventive treatment, such as sealant and score 1 stands for routine check. In first 2 years of treatment, average score was 2.85 which score means approximately general conservative treatment. And that of last 2 years was 1.44, which means routine check. In early time of their visit, they will receive the treatment due to their chief complaint. And after that early time, they can have a routine check so that they can be treated before the disease get worse. The patient's oral health can remain decent only by a simple treatment.
