  • The purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy of 3 implant impression methods by using strain gauge. The models used for this study were partially edentulous mandibular acrylic resin casts Model A, with two abutment analogs in #46,47 extraction site, represented two implant parallel to to the adjacent natural tooth. Model B represent an anterior implant parallel to the adjacene natural tooth and a posterior implant exhibiting a 15-degree lingual inclination. Master framework were fabricated on the master model, and 3 strain gauges were attached to a master framwork to determine the passivity of fit of the framework to sample casts made by the three impression techniques. The master framework was attached to each sample cast with gold screws, which were tightened with the torque driver to ensure a consistent toque application of 10 Ncm. Universal Digital Measuring System UCAM-5BT was used for strain measuring. Impression techniques studid were : 1. unsplinted tapered impression coping, polyvinyl siloxane, stock tray 2. unsplinted squared impression coping, polyether, custom tray 3. squared impression coping splinted with Duralay resin, polyether, custom tray Through analysis on data from this study, the following conclusions were obtained. 1. There were no statistically significant differences between the mean strain recorded from the sample casts made with the tree impression. But only strain values of model A(parallel group) Y-axis was signifcantly differed between Technique 1 and 3(P<0.05). 2. There was no statistically significant difference between model A(parallel group) and model B(15-degree divergent group).

  • It has been well known and empirically supported that many persons with psychiatric disabilities experience recovery in the community. The sense of recovery is experienced while they recognize and manage mental illness and cope with everyday life utilizing personal and social resources. In order to explore ways in which the sense of recovery is enhanced, this study investigated the structure of relationships among the mental health state, optimism, positive emotions, quantity and quality of the social relationships, coping, and recovery of 460 persons with psychiatric disabilities through structural equation modeling. Of findings, first, in the results of path estimates of measurement and theoretical model, especially optimism and positive emotions demonstrated significant effects on the social relationship, coping, and the recovery, while, by contraries, positive emotions showed no significant direct effects on coping, neither the social relationships did on the recovery. Second, on the recovery optimism and positive emotions had direct effects, while quantity and quality of the social relationships had only indirect effects. It is particularly noted that positive emotions showed stronger effects on the recovery than optimism, and also had direct and indirect effects on the social relationships. Finally, partial mediating effects of coping were found between optimism and the recovery, between quality of the social relationships and recovery, and between quantity and quality of the social relationships; another partial mediating effects of quality of social relationships between quantity of social relationships and coping, and between positive emotions and coping; and the last same effects of quantity of the social relationships between positive emotions and coping. According to these results, discussions and implications for social work practice and practice research were suggested regarding the differential effects of positive cognitions and emotions on the recovery and different mechanisms of the quality and quantity of the social relationships, and the relationships among the resources, coping, and the recovery of persons with psychiatric disabilities.

  • The purpose of this study is to test the mediating effect of coping plan and action plan in the relation between leisure-time physical activity(LTPA) intention and exercise behavior and to extend the literature in theory of planned behavior. We examined the mediating role of implementation plan-namely coping plan and action plan in the effect of intention to physical activity on exercise behavior. To attain the goal of study, we asked collegiate students (n=253; male=118, female=105) report their intention toward LTPA, coping plan, action plan, and self-reported exercise behavior. Collected data was analyzed using statistical program software (i.e., SPSS, AMOS) for SEM and mediation analyses. The results revealed that intention toward LTPA was positively related to implementation plan (coping plan and action plan) and exercise behavior. Collegiate students' intention toward LTPA positively predicted their exercise behavior mediated by implementation plans. Specifically, LTPA intention among collegiate students predicted their exercise behavior via coping plan and action plan. The findings showed that coping plan and action plan partially mediated in the relation between LTPA intention and exercise behavior. In conclusion, students' intention to be getting physical active in leisure-time physical activity explains lifetime physical activity or the level of recent exercise behavior possibly via coping plan (e.g., how to overcome barriers to exercise) and action plan (e.g., when and where I exercise and get physically active). The conceptualization of coping plan and action plan in implementation plans and test of its model better to explain the intention-behavior gap would help exercise instructors or practitioners effectively develop their plans and strategies toward targeted exercise behavior.

  • This study was conducted in order to test a model in relation to active coping strategy, academic resilience, and subjective happiness in college students. Also, sought to test the mediating effects of academic resilience in the relationship between active coping strategy and subjective happiness. Data was collected through a self-report questionnaire which was administered to 400 college students. Correlational analysis and structure equation modeling analysis were conducted to test the research models. The results were as follows: First, as the level of active coping strategy increased, the level of academic resilience and subjective happiness increased. Second, as the level of academic resilience increased, the level of subjective happiness increased. Third, the model with active coping strategy as a prophetic variable, academic resilience as a mediating variable, and subjective happiness as a result variable showed a full mediating effect. Thus, although active coping strategy has no direct influence on subjective happiness, it has an indirect effect on subjective happiness by enhancing academic resilience. The results of this study are expected to provide basic data on research and education for the improvement of happiness in college students and to help them develop educational counseling and training programs for improving their happiness and adapting to college life.

  • The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the paths among the risk-protective factors that related to the resilience based on the Challenge Model. The subjects for this study were 209 children from divorced families in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades of elementary schools in Seoul and Gyunggi-do. As the results, there were 28 paths which affected the resilience of children from divorced families based on the Challenge Model. The protective factors were easy temperament, problem-focused coping style, parental support, peer's support, higher socio-economic status, experiences in therapy, presence of siblings, contact with adult caretakers. The risk factors were higher grade, emotion-focused coping style, and children's gender, especially girls. This result demonstrated that each risk and protective factor not only affected resilience separately but interacted with one another.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine stress, coping, and immune response effects of a psychosocial intervention program based on the PNI model and Stress-Appraisal-Coping for Korean patients with breast cancer. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The participants who had survived breast cancer and lived in Wonju city and the surrounding area were assigned to an intervention group (N=21) or a control group(N=18).We conducted a 12-week intervention, 2 hours a day weekly, and measured the variables at baseline, six and twelve weeks later. Dependent variables are: stress, anxiety-depression and anger, and immune response. Results: Patients in the psychosocial intervention program reported significantly less stress perception (U=31.500, p=.023), more problem solving ability and less problem avoidance in coping (U=20.500, p= .013; U=29.500, p=.040), and less anxiety-depression (U=22.000, p=.023). No difference, however, was found in anger and. immune responses between the two groups. Intervention effects were evident at week 6 and 12 for anxiety-depression, and at week 6 for problem avoidance in coping, the same time that NK cell counts and the T8 decreased. Conclusions: These results suggested positive effects of a psychosocial intervention program. However, the results are inconclusive due to the small sample.
